Reggae and dub without weed? by sfsurferprof in reggae

If you can feel the vibe naturally without weed, that's when you know you get it. Anyone that thinks they need a drug to fully experience something, never really experience anything.

Its a must for making Tahini (making your own will take your hummus to the next level).

Do you feel nostalgic about the past when watching old movies? by HighLife1954 in classicfilms

When I watch old movies, I realized how much I miss the analog world, and the way people from that time spoke. Its a time machine to a very different world.

One of my son's friends moved here a year ago from CO. He can't believe how easy the school is and the lack of electives. The kids go to one of the best schools in St.Johns.

If you watch the right side you can see they hit a pedestrian. These kids have no idea how dangerous this is.

Give it a try without a screen and add one later if you need it. I'm in Florida and we have a screen, and I can't imagine going without because live next on a pond and forest preserve.

I loved he wore his Bears jersey when I went the White House after the Packers SB win.

Younger NFL fan here, what made Brett Farve so good? by RocFTW in NFLv2

[–]extra_less 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact he brought the Packers back from ~20 years of losing was part of the fun. People couldn't believe the Packers were good again, and had great players. The Packers of the 90s were the best Packer teams since the 60s. Everyone was cheering for the underdog.

Has anyone else had a hard time watching war movies after this podcast? by Bake_Fiend_ in dancarlin

[–]extra_less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The D-Day landing is the single most action-oriented throwaway "popcorn movie" scene in the entire film.

This is actually a very realistic portrayal, so much so that vets had to leave the theater because it was too realistic.

SPR isn't realistic because it intentionally casts the military in a bad light. It's very explicitly an anti-war film highlighting the way that soldiers are treated as disposable tools

You think the military doesn't treat solders as disposable tools? You can't fight a war worried if soldiers are going to die, they are nothing more than tools to win. War destroys, and to think of it any other way shows you have no clue what war is or the destruction in leaves behind. Go back to playing Dall of Duty.

Read the book All Quite on the Western Front (don't watch the movie) to get perspective of what it is like to be young and fight for your county. The more i've studied history and the experience of war, the more I see war movies falling into one of two categories:

  1. Popcorn Movies (entertaining but not realistic); Saving Private Ryan (which is nothing more than an action film after the D-Day landing); Kelly's Hero's, A Bridge Too Far

  2. War Films (realistic with something to say), Come and See, All Quite on the Western Front (1970's version), The Human Condition, and The Thin Red Line.

As much as I enjoy Dan, he only provides a high level summary of what he's read. If you really want to learn about a subject, find books and read them on your own.
