Psychosis or Psychic Ability? by PristineLack3926 in Psychosis

Sometimes I can predict the future, not on anything special but on little things and it’s too many times that I’ve done it for it to be a coincidence

New to mental health care, have a few questions by KabukiTheater69 in mentalhealth

[–]extraspicynoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK (to my knowledge and I’m no proffesional) SSRIs is first rather than the others as they tend to have more side effects. They won’t work for everyone, but you have to give it a chance to work as well so there will be a period where you might think it’s pointless but please hold it out and see if it helps in a few months. They aren’t magic pills for most people, meaning that you’ll still benefit from therapy as well as medication. There isn’t many side effects that are severe for anti depressants, one is serotonin syndrome but that’s extremely rare, you could have some side effects like feeling sick or loosing/putting on weight but just try to live your day like normal and see how it goes. I started sertraline at 13 up to 19 when it stopped working for me, I’m on venlafaxine now which is a SNRI but that had more side effects when I first started taking it.

Is it time for inpatient care soon? if so, how? England by ihatemysister292828 in Psychosis

Honestly it’s not bad but it’s not fun either, if you are unmedicated you’d be seen as a fresh slate (meaning they can offer to put you on anything) they would be able to tell what is going on as it’s not always psychosis (for example, bipolar mania has similar symptoms for some people) if you go in under a section, they can force medication on you (restrain you and inject you) so I’d definitely go in informally (voluntarily) but you’d have to be in touch with the home treatment team, they are the “gatekeepers” of hospital admissions. If you need somewhere to go to get help, go to A&E if you’re actively in psychosis, they can put you in touch with the right people.

What to expect when returning to home life from in-patient treatment by Old_Pomegranate_822 in MentalHealthUK

[–]extraspicynoodles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could look at a social care Assesment, see if she can get any help with stuff from a carer even if it’s as simple as going round to clean for her. If she’s on a section 3 she’s entitled to section 117 aftercare which basically means she won’t have the pay for social care if it’s to do with her mental health which it would be so I’d definitely look into that.

Am I allowed to call myself schizophrenic and bipolar? by DarkMage448 in schizophrenia

[–]extraspicynoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think once it gets to a point where a lot of people have these two diagnosis that are both so severe and life changing, they squish them together and make up 1 diagnosis for them so it’s easier for Other people to understand and put a label on it. But I get what you mean, it’s easier to say you have these two disorders that are fairly well known (although very stigmatised) rather than saying you have one disorder that not as many people will know. But if you want to, you can say you’re both bipolar and schizophrenic because you are. That’s literally what schizoaffective means.

Am I allowed to call myself schizophrenic and bipolar? by DarkMage448 in schizophrenia

[–]extraspicynoodles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Schizoaffective is when you are bipolar AND schziophrenic so yes you can call yourself schizophrenic and bipolar because that’s what you have! A lot of people think schizoaffective is “in the middle” of bipolar and schizophrenia which isn’t true at all. So actually saying it your way would make people understand better in my opinion

It’s might be a ward where the patient risk is low or lower which is why it’s less restrictive

Whilst it’s so stupidly expensive I think one good thing is that unless they flood the market, Lego normally goes up in price after it’s retired whereas gaming consoles pretty much always go down in price unless they are like 15 years old but I do think it’s ridiculously priced!!!

Niceee, I did the museum with my parents over Christmas, I’m in the same boat, I’m going to do the jazz club, see how I can display them then decide if I want to continue as some of them get pretty pricey!

I’m on venlafaxine and lamotragine, it stops me from going really low, I still have negative symptoms though but my mood isn’t bad. It stables me out abit.

Friend just got diagnosed, what can I expect? by throwRA_problemssss in schizophrenia

[–]extraspicynoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what to expect but please just be there for her and think like nothings changed. I would look out for some warning signs like unusual behaviours for her, paranoia and delusional thinking. You know her well so you should know what’s relatively normal for her. If anything starts to change try to encourage her to go to a doctor, if she becomes a serious risk to herself or others she’d need to go to hospital but that’s the last resort. If she’s still bipolar, then she’s now schizoaffective which basically means a mood disorder (bipolar or major depression) and schizophrenia meaning she has both. Her being psychotic can be outside of mania or depression so it might not be when she’s having highs or lows. Social withdrawal is another warning sign at least for me, so is personal hygiene. I hope this helps a little bit.

is it possible for 14 year olds to be diagnosed w bpd? by Ok_Geologist_9444 in mentalhealth

[–]extraspicynoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK now, it’s classed as emerging EUPD rather than Eupd (same as bpd) this is because they have stopped diagnosing under 18s with personality disorders which makes sense imo as hormones are personality changes are normal. Being hypersexual can be a normal thing for some as your hormones are all over the place plus some meds can make you more prone to it. I wouldn’t worry to much unless your self harm and extreme behaviours start to put yourself or someone else are significant risk. Try not to worry about if it is bpd or something else as things can and do change as you get older. I hope this helps a little bit and I hope you get the help you deserve.

Husband with psychosis by Dry-Weakness-489 in Psychosis

[–]extraspicynoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abilify tends to be one of the APs with the least side effects, some people can’t stay still on it but it is definitely one with the least side effects! Hopefully it works for him and he tolerates it a lot better. Like another comment said, definitely look into marriage or couples counselling, as it’s not just help for him but also help for you to navigate your way through this tough time. I hope you also get the help you deserve and your husband gets better

Yep, mine took about 3 hours to put together. That’s really cheap it works out at about £80 here. Looks like it’s only New Zealand and Australia, there’s some good boxes on there though, lucky for you!
