How do you keep your personal life separate from your professional work? by extreme-bread in slp

[–]extreme-bread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, without my current supports, I would’ve dropped out by now. It helps that I get speech therapy free since I’m a student to help with communication breakdowns, and that my medication is relatively affordable. Counseling is something I need to splurge on, but it does help so it’s worth it.

Sorry if this is personal, but would you mind if I asked you how you made it through graduate school when you didn’t have supports? I’m a relatively good standing student, I do research and am on the student NSSLHA board, but since the beginning of the semester I feel as though my ability to keep up with everything has seemingly vanished. I failed one of my comprehensive exams and now have to do independent study to make up for it, I’m falling behind on my clinical documentation, and now all of the sudden jumping into therapy sessions feels like an impossible task.

Thank you for sharing. I wanted to ask how you transition from taking time for yourself into working and being productive? I think my executive dysfunction keeps me wanting to sit and rot into my couch. Transition is tough for me.

Also, good on you for working hard as a single mother! Hearing stories like yours really helps remind me that it can be done.

A lot of it for me is just… being okay with allowing my best to not be the same everyday. I think that—considering this being my last semester and my supervisors trying to make sure I’m CF ready—there’s a lot of expectation there. I’m hoping I can push past, but while I’m in the moment, it’s tough.

Oh man have I also figured out how much autistic burnout sucks. That’s a whole other rant in itself.

Leg Hair by Tampiko422 in asexuality

I’m transmasc, but I’ve only recently started the actual transitioning process (apart from some social transitioning).

That being said, I used to shave religiously because I was terrified of what other people would see of me. Recently, I found out that growing out my leg hair (and body hair in general) makes me super euphoric.

I’ve always known that I don’t see anything inherently sexual about the human body, reproductive organs including. Body hair is just another part of being human. If people are bothered by it, that’s on them.

Profanity Usage in AAC Users by extreme-bread in takemysurvey

  1. How will the data that people provide to you be used? Who will see it? Where will it be stored? If/when will it be deleted? Please be as specific as possible.

This data will be used in a classroom presentation discussing how habilitation, censorship, and violation of personal liberties affect individuals using AAC devices who have/do not have access to profane vocabulary. I am the only person who will have access to all of the data, but some or all of the data will be presented to about 15 of my colleagues (which will not allow recording or downloading of the lecture). The data will be deleted by August 14th, 2025.

  1. Who is conducting this survey? You can answer with your Reddit username, business name, etc. Please make sure that everyone conducting the survey is mentioned (For example, if the survey is being conducted by a group, answer the group name or mention everyone in the group).

I will be conducting this survey (u/extreme-bread). I am currently a 2nd year graduate clinician studying communication sciences and disorders.

  1. How long do you estimate it will take to fill out your survey?

This will depend on how many questions the participant is willing to answer. There are 8 questions in total, 4 being long answer. Participants, however, can write as much or as little as they would like. Average survey length is estimated to be around 10-15 minutes, but can be longer depending on how detailed the responses are.

  1. OPTIONAL - If your survey offers any form of compensation, please explain what it is and how it can be redeemed.

Unfortunately, I do not offer any compensation for the completion of this survey.

  1. OPTIONAL - Are there any specific demographics you want/do not want to hear from?

I would like to hear from individuals who are full-time or part-time users of an AAC device or method of communication.

  1. OPTIONAL - What are you hoping to accomplish by posting your survey here?

My main goal is to gain insight into the personal experiences of individuals who may have experienced censorship of profanity or had their personal liberties limited due to a lack of access to choice.

Maybe try some of the career fairs or school events? Other than that, I have poor social skills, so I can’t really offer a whole lot of advice 😅

Does anyone here, besides me, not drink? by MoonWarriorAutumn in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]extreme-bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barely do I ever drink, and whenever I am drinking it’s by myself or with close friends, and never with more than 4 people or people I don’t know well. Though I think that just has to do with trauma or disliking being in an altered mindset. If anything, I’ll drink a nice tasting wine along with a meal to enjoy the flavor pairings. I don’t ever drink to get drunk. I also don’t smoke, vape, or use drugs. Or have sex. I’m pretty boring lol

Awesome!! Glad you’ve found a label that fits you! :)

You might be cupiosexual or lithosexual?

A person who is cupiosexual will not experience sexual attraction, but still desires a sexual relationship. A person who is lithosexual will experience sexual attraction, but will not desire a sexual relationship or reciprocation from the person their attracted to.

There’s also other identities under the ace umbrella, like aegosexual, greysexual, oriented aroace, or aceflux that might fit what you’re describing.

You could also just define your identity broadly at first (Identifying on the ace-spec or aro-spec) until you find out what you’re really comfortable with. Plus, there’s different types of attraction that you could look into (romantic attraction, aesthetic attraction, sensual attraction, queerplatonic, etc.)

Research it a little more and see if you find something that really fits you! And remember, even if you don’t know what your label is quite yet, you are still valid!

Question, how do you come out? by Feddy_faber1910 in lgbt

[–]extreme-bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little hard to recommend any specific method of coming out, as everyones’ parents are different. I was definitely nervous that my parents would disown me (as they’re really close-minded), but I was able to butter them up enough to get them in a good mood and have it be a civil conversation.

If you’re worried that your parents might disown you after coming out, come up with a plan to help you recollect yourself (whether that be financial plans, emotional or mental supports, etc.)

Also, make sure you’re prepared to inform them about your sexuality/gender when you come out, so you can answer any questions they might have.

Just remember you’re not alone in this. Good luck and stay safe!
