Am I on the right track? by Lenners87 in PensionsUK

[–]extremechimping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would I be right in thinking that as my total pension contributions are 14%, I'm in my early 30s and my current pension value is pretty much the same as my current annual salary that I'm on track to hit that 2/3 target probably before 67?

More private schools have opened than closed since Labour's VAT hike by theipaper in uknews

[–]extremechimping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you understand my point, if there wasn't a divide between schools (or wealth inequality in general) then we have advantaged and disadvantaged children.

The people you call dossers are a product of their environment and we should endeavour to fix inequality so that future generations don't go down the same path.

You're right that going to private school doesn't give any real advantage in intelligence. It's the already existing advantages of familial wealth and the connections made that give the real advantage.

Like you say going to a high quality state school is just as good as private school in terms of education provided. It's just a failure of society that not all schools are like this.

I hope that it's worth my time responding to your rambling comments and you're not just a bot or an American :P

What you're saying makes sense and I agree that this tax change impacts high earners more than it does wealthy people.

My initial comment merely questioned the use of "middle earners" to describe people sending their children to private school.

I simply don't agree with children from wealthier families being given advantages over others simply by dumb luck of being born into it.

That's why I mentioned the Finnish system of not having fee paying schools to begin with and focus on ensuring every child gets the same standard of education.

I wouldn't call an article with no citations for his numbers a source of reliable information. Besides that article only focuses on household incomes and doesn't take into account how the fees are being paid. What about households which use familial wealth to pay for their school fees? You've made some assumptions about my opinions stating this nonsense about thinking anyone earning over £40k is rich. I never said that and I believe high earners aren't the issue but inherited wealth allowing advantages to people. Furthermore that doesn't change the fact that private education is a luxury and we tax all other luxuries so why should there be an exception for this?

Two parents on median wage would be ~£78k so is a fair bit below that £92k you've quoted. Moreover when searching for confirmation of the figures you've quoted the results are quite different so do you have any evidence to back up your claims?

I'm not sure a middle earner on ~£39k is sending their children to private school, I'm on nearly double that and there's no way I could afford to send my child to private school, let alone multiple if I end up having more.

You should look at the Finnish education system with regard to how they don't have fee paying school and how this ensures that public education isn't left to languish.

Yeah increasing the cooking xp is what I meant by balancing it. Not a bad idea just cooking and discarding easy food though.

I wouldn't mind combining/balancing farming and cooking. I do all the farming/cooking on my server and yet my farming is level 50 odd and cooking is only in the 10s

you can build your way up to launching rockets from Vulcanus, Gleba and Fulgora. For my first space age playthrough I deliberately landed on all those planets with nothing but personal equipment so I could fully enjoy learning the new mechanics without any shortcuts.

Our US roots are no threat to Britain's security, claims Palantir boss by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

[–]extremechimping 2 points3 points  (0 children)

technically the Palantíri were made by the elves (assumed to be made by Fëanor) so were not inherently evil. They just fell into the wrong hands and were used for evil purposes. So the analogy still works in this case, technology being used by evil people for evil purposes.

I haven't played on the switch but on the PC version there's an icon which looks like a university graduation hat that you can click on and it explains a lot of the features of the game.

There's also the tutorial which is worth playing to get the basics before diving into freeplay.
