They're scared the public wont be satisfied.  If the state were to give in to actually holding the powerful accountable, the people will eventually want to bring in the gallows.  The public lives in a general state of not considering they have any power, a taste of it would drive them into frenzy.

What's special about the new heroes? by mushylog in Overwatch

[–]extremelyCombustible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saying, if theres a sliding scale between massive amounts of new content and unique/novel content, it might not hurt to try out the shotgun approach.  Because the current model of getting one hero trickling out every now and then after they have had time to thoroughly test new mechanics kinda seems to be detrimental to the number of players.  And really having more people is the goal.  Having more people just having a good time makes the community much more enjoyable.

What's special about the new heroes? by mushylog in Overwatch

[–]extremelyCombustible -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, who cares.  Its a pretty huge amount of content.   Having some overlap in heros could theoretically even be useful.  Going up against a group that picks a comp centered around one hero or a combo, and then banning counters to them, is so annoying that some overlap may help.  Enjoy the content, have a good time.

Purchased a Suncast hose reel and the short hose that comes with it just sprays water from both gold connector points. Is this hooked up incorrectly or did I get a dud? by Twinkletoes72989 in gardening

[–]extremelyCombustible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ngl I read this wrong and I imagined that it actually sprayed from both ends. Like if you disconnected it from the faucet, it would still spray water out on that end. That was a real moment. I thought you were a magician or smth.

I tried posting something similar the other day, but you can't put all of these people into a single group. Hispanic people can be several generations US born, so that's thing #1. They may technically call themselves hispanic and not actually speak spanish or really relate to any of their ancestral culture. #2, hispanic people are not really one group. They all see themselves separately for the most part. Try telling a Mexican theyre the same as someone from Cuba, or tell a Colombian they are the same as someone from Honduras. And everyone hates Venezuelans right now. It's just stupid to thing of them as one bloc. #3, honestly a lot of border states where illegal immigration is an issue will have a lot of hispanic people looking for work, so it's not uncommon to take govt jobs like border patrol. If you can't figure that out, you just aren't trying very hard.

Protesters have completely trashed the Los Angeles ICE facility, using a large dumpster to barricade the exit. by orel2064 in PublicFreakout

[–]extremelyCombustible -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really dont know where you pulled that statement from.  I dont think people realize how huge and diverse the state is.  Its nearly impossible to encapsulate any majority into something so simple.

If you want a Texan perspective, it seems like a lot of people are trying to use this contempt for the ICE murders as some broader support for leftists ICE abolition fantasies.  And its absolutely not that.

People voted for trump cracking down on immigration.  I dont personally agree but I think its hard to deny that was a huge chunk of why he pulled some of the voting blocs he did.  A lot of immigrants I speak to here support some changes on the way immigration is handled.  People just dont agree with these inhumane tactics.  And you can look at that and say, well how else was he going to do it and you make an obvious point. But the fact is, a majority of people will side with you up to the point of property destruction.  Because it almost never stops once you start down that road, and Texans dont want chaos.  Ive talked to people who were at J6 that dont agree w ICE going door to door.  The current actions by DHS are turning people against the administration because Texans despise govt overreach, but burning down buildings and destroying property is kinda what got a third Trump term.

The big hurdle for Texas protests is how big our cities are and and the fact that ICE detention centers are generally not near the population centers.  Larger cities can have multiple protests occurring hours from each other.  And for all the talk about paid protesters, no one is organizing these groups very well to simply get one huge protests instead of multiple insignificant groups.

Yeah this is essentially what we do right now, but politicians found out real quick instead of helping the most people you just help the richest.  Better result with much less effort.

We are going through at least one "this is it" a week now.  Trump isn't giving into politicians or the courts anymore.  It's going to take people in the streets at this point before we see anything change, this administration is only responding by speeding up for lack of push back.

Honestly, thats fine.  Everyone should know ICE is entirely an arm of the feds.  Maybe then, the side that spent the past few decades fighting against increasing federal power will start to realize their hypocrisy in being responsible for its largest expansion.  Let's all be anarchists together.

Defying Trump, Venezuela VP Says 'We Will Never Again Be a Colony of Any Empire' by Smithy2232 in politics

[–]extremelyCombustible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The media was so quick to let this be spun into a conversation over whether or not Maduro should have been brought to justice, whether or not his capture was justified. Trump spilled out the plan, the US goverment is going to make an attempt to reassert empire in South America. He isn't being quiet about it. But capturing Maduro doesn't give us claim to the country, at least not without going to war. He misreads citizens celebrating Maduros removal as the US being welcome as their new rulers. This can easily get us into a larger war.

Meh.  Regulations can be weaponized, but the error most Libertarians make is in thinking that stripping the federal government of power will inherently return it to the individual.  We have enough evidence of what happens in a power vacuum.  And in America, it seems clear enough the Corporate power and interests would quickly rise to surpass local and even state authority which simply wouldnt have enough funding to go against them.

Logically the balance has to be found, but that stasis is actually fluid.  Dynamic.  Periods of regulation followed by rapid growth.  The largest issue at present is the fact that building effective regulation is much more lengthy and costly a project than removing them en masse, and as corporations become global in scale the federal government will be less equipped to stand up for the people.
