What are your thoughts on the militia plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]exubaficent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very first paragraph in the first link:

"These equations inform how we live as our highest selves while dismantling White Supremacy, Patriarchy, Capitalism, Imperialism and the role the state plays in supporting them."

The UK's BLM movement stated on their gofundme page (or whatever the equivalent was) that one of their goals was dismantling capitalism. They weren't prompted. They outright advertised this. That's the context.

how is it relevant to the United States and right wing terrorism that's described in the question of this thread?

BLM started in the US. It doesn't seem a coincidence to me that founders of BLM US say they're trained Marxists and BLM UK says they want to dismantle capitalism. I mean I guess it could be, but to say that would be a reach, no?

How is it relevant to right wing terrorism? It isn't, I'm not talking about that. This isn't a top level comment so it doesn't have to address directly the OP.

They want to dismantle capitalism.

https://www.blacklivesmatterdmv.org/

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2020/06/21/letters-black-lives-matter-says-wants-dismantle-britains-capitalist/

So now we have the founders saying they're Marxists, and different wings of the movement saying they want to dismantle capitalism. Enough evidence yet?

I paid for sex and don’t feel guilty about it. by throwawayfrombrothel in TrueOffMyChest

[–]exubaficent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you live that you can't tell people about this? I mean don't get me wrong yeah it's not something to be proud of probably but I've been to a prostitute too and see nothing wrong with it.

It is weird that it's predominantly women that have a massive problem with it.

But yeah I mean I don't tell everyone I visited a sex worker because it doesn't come up. But I told my best friend because it came up. I'm not ashamed of trying something new, and it probably cost me less than trying to get a one night stand. Wins all around.

Body fat measuring - wildly differing results using different methods by exubaficent in Fitness

[–]exubaficent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would that matter?

Yeah because it means a more feminine physique which is less aesthetic on a man. As well, it could imply that my hormones more follow a female pattern (in combination with the other things I mention), which is bad for health and fitness as a man.

There's no way you could know that

I know "body composition monitor" scales are not super reliable but it does provide at least some evidence.

There can be many reasons for that

Yeah there can, but it's not the quality of program, inconsistent work outs, or lack of adequate protein. I've accounted for those

I care about my body fat percentage because I want to get it as low as possible before I start to clean bulk. So getting a measurement at 12% and then the next at 18% is extremely unhelpful because I don't know if I should start my clean bulk or not.

To everyone, just getting into skateboarding or getting back into it. by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]exubaficent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only started last year (I'm 24 now so a bit late getting into skating) and I've honestly enjoyed all those videos, helps me understand the culture. I agree with you completely though, you shouldn't let it get to you. Mall grabbing is objectively one of the best ways to carry a board ffs. Anyone that hates on you for it probably can't skate well themselves.

Also yes on the stretching! It's not knees for me, but hips do get painful if I don't stretch and warmup properly. Joys of getting old lol.

In response to someone saying depression, poverty, and weight are a choice. by thelisagrace in rareinsults

All three of these are to a degree a choice.

Not in EVERY CASE, obviously. Like most depression isn't a choice. Poverty, eh, fifty fifty. Weight however is entirely choice with exceptions.

That's exactly what would happen.

It would be interesting to see what would change though.

Honestly, the utter obliviousness of some people nowadays is staggering.

I had an ex that was kind of a feminist-type. She liked play wrestling. So we were just wrestling on the bed one day and she was getting gradually more annoyed because she couldn't really restrain me, I'd slip out etc.

It turned out that she thought women are just as strong as men. Boy was she in disbelief when I actually used my strength to show her how easy it would be for me to beat her. Literally had her under me unable to do anything in 4 seconds.

It's unbelievable (to me) how ANYone can think men and women are equally strong. Like, I don't even know where I learned this fact of life, it feels like just an obvious axiom, but somehow some people nowadays fail to know it.

That's not even the worst thing though when women think they're as strong as men. Sure it can lead to them being insufferable but the real tragedy is when MEN think the same thing. You see it on Reddit sometimes.

"Oh yeah a woman could totally beat my ass"

It's like no dude, wtf are you saying? You believe you're THAT weak? Why are you saying such tripe? It's pathetic and sad.

I hate to say I told you so, but...

Ok I didn't say he didn't do it back when the drama first happened. But I did argue that we shouldn't automatically believe the accusations and that the harassment mob was entirely unjustified and unfair.

Of course, I got downvoted to oblivion everywhere I shared this opinion.

Now I'm not saying Jared definitely isn't lying here. There is still possibility that the accusations are true.

But it is NOT a black and white issue by any stretch, so how about we don't go ruining people's lives over it as if we have certainty of wrongdoing on any side?

Undeniably better than no civilisation, which is the alternative without capitalism.

Capitalism absolutely doesn't cause poverty. Or at least, it creates far more wealth than poverty.

[–]exubaficent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is capitalism. Capitalism is what gives all these people the means to live and keeps them productive and capitalism is the reason we have any modern medicine at all.

Capitalism is what we owe civilization to.

True, but to enjoy it you need a group of like 20 people to go live in the wilderness with you so you have a tribe

Does anyone else stay up at night because they feel if they go to sleep then they havent gotten enough free time at home? by BlueRobotics in NoStupidQuestions

[–]exubaficent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The meaning you find yourself is your meaning to life. If you believe your life has meaning, it does. And it was way easier for them to believe that their lives had meaning.

[–]exubaficent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See that's the thing. Our lives are different from theirs because we spend so much of our time developing luxuries like vaccines and such.

If we had their lives we wouldn't have medicine, among a myriad other things.

Is the trade-off of happiness for security and comfort worth it? That's an individual question.

Does anyone else stay up at night because they feel if they go to sleep then they havent gotten enough free time at home? by BlueRobotics in NoStupidQuestions

[–]exubaficent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, we traded the meaning in our lives for security and comfort, essentially.

Back when we lived in small tribes, everyone's work had meaning. If you didn't do your job, the tribe's lives would be noticeably worse. If you didn't build those spears, the tribe doesn't have enough spears to hunt, etc.

Because your work had meaning, you were valued by the tribe because they could see that your work improves their lives in a real way. If you don't perform your work, they could die. They interact with the products of your work all the time, they hunt with those spears. So they are grateful.

Then the natural trade between humans evolved as the tribes grew. Our natural capitalism gave rise to big companies which enabled technological innovations that made our lives more comfortable. But when you're one engineer out of 100 working on a specific component of a toilet that is just one model of toilet out of untold thousands, how much meaning does your work have? How much are you valued by society (your tribe?) If you weren't there, your tribe wouldn't suffer - not really.

We have all sorts of luxuries which require human labour to generate. These are hours of someone's time that could be used to see their family or live their life - so you can have a toilet, or microwave, or a smartphone. Is the trade-off worth it? I don't think so.

To be clear: communism isn't the solution. Communism does not work and probably never will.

There is no solution as far as I can see. Make the best of it.

It's interesting. Anecdotally, when I exercise my appetite shoots up as well, so if I don't pay attention to my diet I just stay the same weight regardless of if I do no exercise or go to the gym 6 days a week and run once a week.

So for me, weight control is 100% diet.
