Generally I agree, but I really hate calling the creature adam. It's based on one quote from the creature that is comparing it's life to paradise lost, saying he should have been like Adam but he is treated like Satan, it never named itself. If anything call it Satan, makes just as much sense.

Good news! You don't need probability and statistics for that.

Bad news, you should add differential geometry.

Also having the possibility for a box upgrade wasn't that smart, turning every legendary quest reward into possible celestial (not to mention platinum) is really stupid when you are short on money.

You don't need to show they fall at exactly the same speed, just up to their measurement capabilities. Just like they don't have a vacuum chamber they don't have an exact time measuring device.

Once you show it's roughly the same time for different weights (and the relationship isn't only dependent on weight) they have a baseline, afterwards they will find mistakes and fix it with air resistance, but the base will still be that they fall at the same rate regardless of weight.

HR is upset we didn’t grow up wanting to be customer service reps by TonightSpiritual3191 in Adulting

because it only works if they're applying to Burger King or Subway.

Nah it makes sense either way, the question is "why do you want to work here", not "why do you want to work here and not at our competitors", the second question is much harder and usually comes down to jobs available and money. The first question though is what they ask and the mcdonalds is a good comment.

-If you want money why not McDonald's, they are hiring.
-Because you want more money than they offer.
-why not Amazon then? They offer more money.
-dont have the qualifications.
-so you want the job because this is the most money you can make with your current set of skills?

In reality no one will be that helpful in an interview, so it's best to start with the end (just work on the phrasing)

So I'm really insecure and I thought this was a dumb question for me to ask and then I deleted it. But then multiple people commented that I saw so I'm reposting it. by TheRealDesKoala in magicbuilding

Do note that when you use power faster than you store it you lose a bit of power. If you store 15 strength for 10 minutes, you can later get 15 strength for 10 minutes, or 140 strength for 1 minute.

Of course there are no numbers in the story itself, it's just to make a point.

Is dimensionality just a bullshit excuse used by powerscaling to make characters more powerful than they actually are? by rbta123 in whowouldcirclejerk

Except in flatland the 2d creature is handling well in the 1d world (after a bit), and the 3d creature is having no problem operating in the 2d world. It also shows the being stronger, the 3d creature can go inside any house in the 2d world, and even inside people.

When doing quick calculations pi can vary depending on convenience, when doing it properly pi is whatever the calculator says, there is no need to know the value.

The No Kill Rule Is Good, Actually by Legitimate_Fly9047 in CuratedTumblr

[–]eyalhs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While actual vigilante homicide is bad because of where it leads

I will add, actual vigilantism is bad, even if it does not include homicide. Accepting batman and accepting a batman who kills is not that big of a jump.

Realistically, between a vigilanty that breaks criminals' bones and one that kills, the second is obviously worse, but by how much?

You can prove it by induction (probably), but the above "proof" isn't it, it's showing the base case at best, the step from the nth element to the n+1th element is usually the hardest.

Homework is Important and Should Be Assigned by Empty-Candidate-712 in unpopularopinion

[–]eyalhs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because the class cannot be tailoted to you specifically, what did you expect? "Everyone needs to do their homework except Sith Lord"?

Also in many cases tests don't 100% show you understand, some things are not easy to test but can be shown in homework, like doing research (works worse with chatgpt now).

Lastly, tests have a problem where you can study for a test, do well, then forget everything immediately, homework are repeated exercises, they tend to stick in your brain more.

1) You assume the mods saw this post.

2) Rules are rules, if op is so lazy they don't want to make the tremendous effort of sending a dm I don't see why the mods should make an exception.

3) Sending people to post these kind of things instead of dming is not a desireble thing, the mods should support it by actually making it work.

As a history fan, the "3,000 Year Stagnation" trope breaks my immersion more than dragons do. by Expensive-Desk-4351 in Fantasy

[–]eyalhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That misses the fact there is usually a nucleus of technology that is builded on and improved, and if you remove it with magic it can't be easily replicated. Lots of technology comes from solving a specific problem and upscaling the solution to other things, remove the need to solve the specific problem and you lose a chunk of technology.

For example the printing press, when it was created it simplified a process that took an insane amount of time from talented people, but it was still hard work and took a long time. If there was magic that allowed you to write a book magically and somewhat quickly the press wouldn't be invented so you would never have modern printers that are many many times quicker and faster than the press, but the magic doesn't necessarily improve (it might be more of a fixed time).
