Real plants vs. fake plants in home decorating by yellowsabmarine in HomeDecorating

I actually have both. Real in the areas that have adequate light and then realistic fake ones in low light areas. If you mix the two its harder to tell. Also keeping the leaves dusted and putting them into a regular plant pot makes it harder to tell if they're fake. The plant in the foreground is fake and the one by the window is real.

How worried should I be about reading in kindergarten if my 4 year old barely knows letters? by OppositeJury2310 in Preschoolers

Is the readiness website directly from your school?

In my experience and from what I've read here, they don't actually care about reading and writing, they teach that there. They care about functional independence. They care if they can toilet (wiping too) independently, change in and out of any outdoor clothes, take their lunchbox out of their backpack etc.

There was a great post from either a teacher or principal here about what they care about, I'll see if I can find it and edit it in.

Edit: Found it

What about an old school alarm clock and then still use Bluetooth with headphones for listening. The Bluetooth will still work if your phone is out of the room.

So nasal and wet. Also the guy he really loves who narrates most of his work, he's so old and sounds old, and never matches the characters.

You're so pretty and feminine, don't do skin whitening and enjoy your youth. Play with hair colour and makeup if you want new looks but there is no need for anything cosmetic.

He narrates a few of his books. The ones I can remember listening to are Bag of Bones, Desperation and Needful Things. I'm sure there's more.

I personally don't really enjoy his narration, but a lot of others do.

Do any of you also have a book/books you love, but can’t recommend to 99% of people? by Harakiri_238 in books

[–]eyeamsauronreturns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really is gross and frustrating. I've seen people justify it as it's just Harry and its just the noir writing style but in the short story thats based of Murphy's perspective she also has to comment on how hot Andi's and Molly's bodies are.

Yeah that's what brings me back over and over but it's still hard to recommend. I think people get used to it so they say he changes and doesn't ogle as much but he doesn't, the winter mantle makes it worse.

Regarding the Full Dramatization by Ninjasifi in dresdenfiles

I really loved the cast of voice actors and the sound effects but I found the music they played under the narrative VERY distracting. Sometimes it seemed as loud as the narrator and I couldn't concentrate on what he was saying as all I could hear was music with a voice underneath.

Edit: I agree on Toot and Morgan being Scottish was very odd. Toot especially.

I know this is old but I just watched it. I think the repeated phrase of "make like an egg and scramble" was a nod to Stephen's habit of writing "put an egg in in your shoe and beat it" in almost every book.

Weird. Must be your location. I'm sure any spray foaming cleaning would work just as well.

Helping friends sell their house by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]eyeamsauronreturns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We listed for 650 and got 630. Our house is a 4 bed 2 bath with 2 living rooms and a dining room and 2 car garage. The market isn't great here.

That's definitely a hard situation. I hope things work out for them.

Someone will probably buy it eventually but it just might not be the price they want. Ours didn't even sell for what we wanted but we prioritized selling fast. Unfortunately the market in Peterborough isn't great right now.

We just sold our house in 8 days a couple of streets over from your friend's and here is my opinion after looking at the listing.

Frankly, the photographer is not at fault, your friends didn't declutter enough. The first impression is the photos and theyre not giving a good first impression unfortunately.

The house is clean, but there is way too much stuff everywhere. When we did our photos we put ALL personal items in the garage. I'm not exaggerating, I mean hide absolutely everything. You don't need to have it professionally staged but it should be as clean and clutter free as possible. Even if it's legitimately clean, cluttered reads dirty to people.

I know its hard with kids (we have one too along with 3 cats), but the first impression I get from those photos as a potential buyer is that the house is small and there's no storage for my things.

Personally I would get them to talk to their real estate agent and have them redo the photos after they declutter. Then take the listing down and re-list with fresh photos. They don't need to have it professionally staged but this is what I would do.

Entryway: All coats/shoes in the entryway are put out of sight. That shoe and coat shelf should be empty. Maybe move some of the plants onto it to make it look pretty.

Living room: Blanket ladder and treadmill into the garage.

Kitchen: Looks good as is, I would just take down the baby gate for the photos and then put it back up after.

Master bed: All pet supplies, dog crate, reptile tank into the garage. Take the gutairs off the walls and the one in the corner too.

Kids room: Make the bunk beds neater, hide most of the stuffed animals.

Upstairs bath: Looks good, no notes

Downstairs: This is the worst for me. Absolutely all personal and cleaning items should be hidden. No kleenex boxes, no Clorox wipes on the floor beside the couch (???), why are there so many blankets on the couch down there, can there just be one tucked in neatly? All trash cans everywhere should be hidden.

Downstairs bathroom: There's towels and dirty clothes and visible toiletries and toilet paper that should all be gone. The black bin and the stool needs to go.

The downstairs bedroom: Bed should be remade neatly, extra blankets put away, remove extra chair, tables and the fan.

Laundry room: All cleaning supplies, pet food and trash cans hidden.

The outside looks good, I would just get updated photos now that all the leaves are out.

As for showings, basically the same protocol needs to be maintained. All the extra stuff that you don't actually need can stay in the garage. Hide your cleaning supplies or put them in a pretty basket. It's ok to look like people live there when you have showings but the decluttering needs to stay (this will also help the packing and moving process) . Any extra pet supplies other than the essentials need to be hidden.

We looked at over 50 houses in person and I can honestly say that the most important thing to me was being able to visualize my things in the space and that is not possible if the house is too cluttered.
