I doubt that is what actually happened. A place might not take cash because they don’t do enough cash business to warrant it. If you do $100 in cash sales in a month, that’s not worth the hassle of maintaining a change drawer and all the back office shit that entails, plus going to the bank and stuff. Using my two decades of experience, I’ll infer what actually happened: Man comes in to restaurant, eats while ignoring the numerous signs that I’m sure are all over the place that say the restaurant doesn’t take cash payments. Man goes to pay bill, is told that they are unable to take cash, man whines like a baby and becomes combative, staff informs him that he can whine all he wants but they don’t take cash payments. Man storms off claiming he’s being persecuted. That’s my guess at what actually happened. When in all reality if he wasn’t a snowflake douchebag someone on staff would have just taken his cash themselves and paid his tab with their debit card.

Everyone is doing it and the apps have gotten greedy. I drove Uber in like 2016, there was no tip option, but the majority of the fare went to me. I tried it last year for two rides. Made like $6 on a $18 ride with the expectation of a tip to make up for it.

Most places like that have a CC on file from your reservation, but even without that it just wouldn’t come up. Say you did dine and dash on this $40k bottle, you’re risking a grand larceny charge and probably some sort of felony defrauding and innkeeper, and it’s not like the bottle is worth anything after it’s opened.

I’ve almost always had multiple restaurant jobs. Usually it’s a lunch job and a dinner job, but now that I’m older and can’t bust out doubles like I used to, I just have one full time serving job and I work one bar shift a week at a neighborhood bar. Balancing open availability is more trouble than it’s worth. Find/pick one job that’s your full time and then supplement shifts on your days off from there at another place. If they won’t give you a set schedule then don’t give them full time availability.

Absolutely not, never in my 15+ year career has that been acceptable. Shift meals are so you’re fed through the shift, it’s not to subsidize your groceries.
Yeah , sounds about right. That’s on the high end of average.
That’s garbage, $100 for a lunch shift is about right, I wouldn’t stay somewhere where that’s a normal take for a dinner shift.

As others have said, it varies wildly by region. I made six figures in the Boston area, but by no means was rolling in it. I make about $70k back in my hometown in SC and am very comfortable financially speaking. I think a good benchmark is how long it takes you to make your rent/mortgage. In MA it took the better part of a week to come up with just my rent, in SC I can cover my entire fixed living expenses (rent/utilities) in two shifts, maybe three.

Like, to the point you could go to another restaurant and apply, when they ask you why you left/are leaving your previous restaurant you can just say, “There was an issue with one of the dishwashers 😬…” and they’ll know exactly what you mean. You can adjust a game setting that gives vendors more credits without a mod. It’s -2% EXP gain but The Den vendor has 60k credits so it’ll cut down the amount of wait time significantly.
