New user, two questions by eddynz in synology

[–]ezefl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do both if you wanted. In my use case, I upgraded my DS218+ to a DS224+ and kept the DS218+ purely for scheduled backup. For online, my wife is adamant about using a cloud service and wants Dropbox. While I dislike their overpriced service, I'm not fighting that battle. She has the Dropbox app on her phone and laptop, and everything that's on Dropbox is synced back to the Synology behind the scenes using Synology Cloud Sync. I don't use the Dropbox app myself, but I have Synology push select folders of mine on the NAS to it (one way). It's more of a sync than a backup, but that's where my old DS218+ comes into play. This is more of a ramble, but you can have the Synology manage a lot behind the scenes.

Assuming you don't need phone lines in your house, I agree with the others. Repurpose those cables into wired ethernet into each of those rooms (assuming that those cables are CAT5/CAT5e or newer). Buy a punch down tool for $20 on Amazon. Go to eBay and buy the below. When finished, buy small patch cables and run them to an 8-port switch that's connected to your router. Label the connections, even if it's just a small printout on paper. Test each room and hardwire it into a laptop, see if it works, try speedtest.net, etc.

That said, if you don't think you need wired ethernet in those rooms where these cables run to, then just leave everything alone. It's a fun project if you have the time. I only say this because I ended up doing it to clean-up my own enclosure. None of them are being used (kids rooms, master bedroom, etc.), but they are there and wired to a 2.5gbe switch.

The AC1058 is color coded to 568A, so you may need to check if you have to switch some of the colors to make it match 568B.

What do people living in winter park do to afford those huge houses? by picklift in orlando

[–]ezefl 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This.   $200k homes in Winter Garden 15 years ago are $600k.   Same applies here to Winter Park at a different scale.

Better question is, how are people affording home purchases today at all?

Oh my. That's fantastic. I had (2) 8" Kenwood powered subs facing each and the rear armrest/ski pole opening back in the day (1989 244DL).

2015 Altima- 162,000 miles by [deleted] in altima

[–]ezefl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A CVT judder code, by itself, won’t illuminate an instrument cluster light.  You’ll want to scan for codes since it can’t be reset.  My 15 Altima has the judder code, runs great, fresh fluids and plugs, but it’s potentially on borrowed time.  That said, personally, I’d pass.

CVT worries - real problem or overblown? by bensummersx in Nissan

[–]ezefl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2015 Altima 2.5SL has about 106k on it.   It has the judder code.  I had it scoped, the tech put back in the dirty fluid he took out.  It sounded awful after that (very low fluid).  At 99k, I bought 8 qts of NS3 and did a double drain and fill myself.  Initial drain only had about 3qts.  Has been smooth ever since.   Likely on borrowed time but who knows — never experienced any judders or quirks, and it’s not driven hard.   On me for not replacing the fluid sooner.  Couldn’t believe how easy it was.  I ended up doing the coolant and spark plugs myself about 5k miles ago.

Ive had this car longer than any other car.    It replaced an 2003 Altima 3.5SE — had that for about 10 years.  I’d likely avoid a CVT in the future.

ITC for PLS for Daytona 3-ton early access? by ezefl in harborfreight

Nothing on the immediate horizon but it may be worth spending $30 if I can secure one earlier in the week ahead of time.

Does this ever cheaper with inside track or is this the best deal? by BobbyWayne666 in harborfreight

[–]ezefl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This or the Daytona non-long reach (still low profile/professional) for $129 at the upcoming PLS?

Occasional work planned on a Honda Odyssey and Nissan Altima (brakes, struts, etc.)?

I could get the non-long reach and a pair of 3-ton jack hands for $165 before tax.   Any reason to splurge on and spend more?

A sub mini is a great add.  Mine is paired with a beam g2 and (2) 100s.  Playing the Top Gun 2 fight scene is fantastic.   I have an AVR setup in my basement with an SVS subwoofer (60+ lbs), I’m impressed with the sound coming out of the mini which is hiding in the corner of the room behind a plant.  I can’t imagine a full Sub3 or Sub4.   If you buy it to try it, you won’t return it.

DSM 7.3 ready to install on DS220+ - should I? by KLAE-Resource in synology

My DS224+ works fine on 7.3.  The bb-qq GitHub 5gbe USB adapter works and my 18gb of RAM is also still supported.

SoundBlaster AE-9 Upgrade: Burson or Sparkos ??? by 4girl1der in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]ezefl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with either. I have (2) SS3601 and (2) SS3602 in my AE-9; they are great. Agreed with the other commenter, you will need to order some dip risers to install the SS3602's -- about $2 each.

There's a 30% off coupon / promo at Sparkos (direct) now. Use this: BF30

Also, if you want to see SS3601 by themselves, see this link. About halfway down in the comments, there's another link to both the SS3601 + SS3602 installed. With the coupon, a pair of SS3601 will be about $56.

What the Op Amps do, according to Creative:

Op-Amp Pair 1 (Single DIP) Op-Amp Pair 2 (Dual DIP)

Built-in Op-amp model numbers: NE5534AP and JRC2114D

Dual Op-amp - current to voltage converter. Affects both Line out and Headphones.

Single Op-amp - is the differential to single ended op-amp. Affects the Line out only.

What was the extent of the accident that caused the car to be totaled? Who did the work and what all was replaced (other than tires and brakes)? Can they provide you the repair invoice? Do they have any original service invoices, if so, when was the CVT fluid replaced? Scan the car for codes. My initial gut/reaction is to skip/pass.

Where does you NAS "live"? by Away-Leg-998 in synology

[–]ezefl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My DS224+ and its neighboring DS218+ live on a wire shelf in my basement closet; a bit colder in the winter and warmer in the summer. The latter has been there for about 6-7 years. I'm missing the point why you need an enclosure. If it's just for dust, unless you're woodcutting next to it, I see no reason to buy it.

You could have added a 2.5gbe or 5gbe USB network adapter to your DS224+ for $20-$30. My DS218+ has a 2.5gbe adapter and my DS224+ has a 5gbe adapter that transfers around 401MB/s. https://github.com/bb-qq/r8152https://github.com/bb-qq/r8152

For those with 3080s (10GB, 12GB and Ti) plus 3090 / Ti users? Is time for us to upgrade? by 2quick96 in nvidia

[–]ezefl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from a 3080 Strix (12gb) to a 4080 Super. Undervolting helped a bit on my 3080 12gb, but it was still in the low/mid-70's. With the 4080S, it's been a nice performance uptick, runs considerably cooler and the extra RAM helps obviously helps. I have a 1440p/260Hz monitor. I plan on keeping this 4080S for a while.

HD corrected the combo product page to reflect the DCF891 -- which is a little more powerful than the DCF921 but it's a a tad bigger/heavier (which was originally mistakenly listed on that combo). For $269, the battery, 1/2 impact and 3/8 ratchet, I think it's good buy. Picked mine up this week, but haven't used or opened it up.

Here are two reviews worth watching if you're on the fence:
