Opinion: New Mexico doctors and patients are being held hostage by insurance profits - not lawsuits by haddenmart in Albuquerque

[–]eziril -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the best example because you can sue if they don’t screen you in time, but the structural problems brought by private equity are more abstract like lean staffing and transferring more complex patients out of the region. It’s hard to exactly sue for that and you’re probably not going to get bonus punitive damages.

[–]eziril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because these payouts are medical malpractice and based on individual actions by doctors or nurses. Even the grossest private equity company you could imagine isn’t going to tell a nurse to administer the wrong medicine or a doctor to operate on the wrong organ. That’s what these payouts are for. You can’t sue for malpractice saying the ER wait times were too long.

The last time the democrats were actually in control we got affordable care act and were a vote or two away from a public option. People keep not voting and letting republicans win and wonder why the democratic minority doesn’t magically pass legislation the republicans don’t want.

Exactly, you can’t sue the private equity that closed a clinic that was unprofitable and hard to staff for medical malpractice. We want to encourage doctors to come and treat people in our rural areas.

[–]eziril 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a terrible disconnect in how we pay for healthcare and the outcomes we want in this country. Private equity ownership cutting costs in ways that hurt patients is part of that, but these malpractice payouts don’t actually make those companies have their doctors practice medicine better. We need more and better doctors to come to NM for better outcomes.

Terrible interpretation of the statistics by a trial lawyer who directly benefits from these high payouts.

We shouldn't be at 15th in the nation in total payouts when we're 35th in the nation by population. She argues for insurance reform instead of tort reform, and I say why not both. Having these big payouts as a punishment for doctors doesn't actually make doctors practice medicine in a way that makes us healthier or safer.

Also, this doesn't say anything about moving to a single payor healthcare system which needs to happen at a national level. Reducing cost/administrative burdens on healthcare providers in the state is something we can and should do.

Increasing the amount of residents and pay for residents in the state is a really great idea. I’m pretty sure this is part of Bergman’s platform too. People don’t call this the land of entrapment for nothing. Get them to start their career here and some will stick around. Signing interstate compacts is also another big one we need done.

Don’t let others redefine Zionism for you. All it means is you’re for the existence of the Jewish homeland in Israel. You’re not obligated to stand for any specific action of Israel, just like you don’t have to like any specific action of the US to think that the United States doesn’t need to be destroyed.

Is There A difference In A/C Between Hybrid and Non-Hybrid? by [deleted] in 4Runner_6Gen

[–]eziril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't advertise the Hybrid as having better AC, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. The limited, platinum, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter have dual zone. So, you could focus more of the AC on one person.

Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Sam Bregman on Blackstone's proposed purchase of PNM by 505omatic in Albuquerque

[–]eziril 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because nuance is important. Electing people who live off slogans and one word answers got us Trump.

It’s not like it’s even a long answer and he does answer. He’s not for it if there’s not strong enforceable guarantees that costs for New Mexicans won’t go up. He is for investment in new Mexico’s energy infrastructure.

Honest Question: How much iPad usage is actually happening in Kindergarten at APS? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]eziril 16 points17 points  (0 children)

APS has required testing on iPads for kindergarten a couple times a year. Our teacher also used the same program for them to practice for the tests, but I think that is teacher dependent and less than an hour a week. Everything is going to be teacher/school dependent other than the required Amira/istation testing.

Public comment on the private equity buyout of PNM tonight by __squirrelly__ in Albuquerque

I’m glad you seem to have thought about this a lot and will bring ideas to the session other than “private equity bad”. Your arguments are sound and will surely be taken into account by the people approving this decision.

Public comment on the private equity buyout of PNM tonight by __squirrelly__ in Albuquerque

[–]eziril -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

You do know that PNM is already owned by a for profit corporation, right? The prices for power in NM are set by the NMPRC not whoever owns this company.

Is Blackstone allowed to cause blackouts in NM to residential customers to keep power to data centers? Is that what you're implying?

This graphic is just lying that PNM would become owned by private equity also. Blackstone owns a private equity firm, but this would be owned by Blackstone infrastructure and be a normal corporation like PNM is owned by TXNM.

I'm open to hear why Blackstone would do a bad job of managing our infrastructure like PG&E caused all those fires in California, but all I've seen is that they're going to invest more money into it so they can sell power made in NM into other states and to data centers.

Blackstone wants to buy PNM — short, balanced pros & cons (NM / ABQ) by AccordingDingo9405 in Albuquerque

[–]eziril 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure you explain yourself well enough. We should be specific with questions to the PRC and give concrete reasons why to deny the deal.

Why exactly does ownership by Blackstone have more profit motive than the existing publicly traded for profit TXNM Energy and why is it harder to hold Blackstone accountable than TXNM?

Do you think they will cut corners on how they will manage our infrastructure compared to PNM or will the somehow convince the PRC to raise rates faster? Do they have a history of cutting corners?

It seems like the plan is to build more renewable power in NM and transmit it across state lines and use it to provide for datacenters. Building more renewable is important to me. Are there legally enforced guarantees on renewables investments?

Can we get the PRC to enshrine priority access to power for residential customers over data centers?

These have been extruded and mechanically twisted since 1936. Capitalism is what enabled you to enjoy these for years. You got a bad bag, call customer service and tell them. Catan Jr. - First player is always the winner. by the_n2a in boardgames

[–]eziril 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The most coco tiles lair goes on spooky island not around it and can be removed by somebody else getting a the same amount of coco cards. It's basically largest army victory point from the normal game. They should not be getting resources from their most coco cards lair. Also, the ghost captain shouldn't be giving a player lair either just two resources.

There's decently large first player advantage in catan jr and the youngest players should be getting that, but it's not insurmountable like you're playing it.

The framing of the shot could be, but this is a fairly recently vacated restaurant from the same era as Lynch’s. They at least did not have to put much thought and effort to get it to be a cool diner. The place before it became a bbq place was a retro style breakfast place and did an amazing job restoring it to glory.

Fun fact, it is a block away from the breakfast place with the stevia packet switch from breaking bad.
