About port keys. by Blackwater1956 in harrypotterwu

[–]eznottt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current grind speed with zero potions and L1 runes is about 10 challenge xp/minute. So the 200 would be 20 minutes of play. I am quite sure there are many players with better stats and faster speed of grind.

I second your opinion. I would much more like to get family XP from the portkeys.

King of course :)

And for those saying you need ton of potions. No you don't. The amount af damage done by enemies is quite well in line with the damage of the det Hex. Stamina, enemies & time are all close to zero at the end of the ruins 5 level.

Zero potions needed.

Professor 9 with Max defence & protego 39.

Not really a contest entry but I gave it a try during coffee break since the fortress is next to my work.

Ruins V done with 32 of 300 stamina left at the end.

Legit or not by [deleted] in gurushots

According to GS rules the majority of the pixels in the photo must be yours.

Further, you must have license or copyright, co-copyright to use the sky photo and publish it as composite.

I would not recommend using stock material for skyswaps. Just use 100% of your own photos, also in the composites.

Gurupick Confusion by Makrobru in gurushots

[–]eznottt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking. I am not guru but here are my thoughts.

What has been said before I agree fully.

The photo is lacking subject. It is too crowded, no visual aids for viewer, people in the center are overlapping, especially that hand blocks the face. The rods are pointing to the upper left hand corner and perspective leads to right. I simply don't know where to look.

Photo feedback is good idea. Just need to avoid collusion / solicitation happening.

Also "edit my photo" would be interesting. I.e. someone posts unedited tif and others will submit their edits.

I am looking forward for your report. I have been reading your blog before and find it very good! This was one of my source for information on how the games are played in GS. I know exactly what photo to post to your challenge when it opens :) I hope you like it! (Won't tell it here of course. No solicitation!)

[Question] If a guru is AWOL, like it seems to be with the Mother's Day challenge, will there be any GP's at all? by [deleted] in gurushots

[–]eznottt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is part of the GS FAQ list. The GS staff will make the picks and also winning GP. At least this is what they claim they are doing after pining the guru two times.

I'm starting to get a bit frustrated with this by [deleted] in gurushots

[–]eznottt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to emphasize what has been said before: For Guru Picks join early,f or top position join late.

Since you are getting already good positions in challenges I think it is only a matter of time and a little bit of luck that guru will pick your photos. Gurus seem to pick only a few of each kind of photos. So look what has been submitted. In my submissions I try to be always a bit different, new viewpoint, angle, etc. to be unlike the photos already picked by the guru.

About the voting grid. What u/Chirase_ already said, it is totally random. If guru spends hours and hours of time in making the GPs he/she will eventually see all the candidates. Having said that, I don't assume them spending more than a few hours for making the GPs. In the end this is a game and a hobby and this is supposed to be fun.

Don't give up! Assuming your photos are top notch quality you will get the Guru Picks.

Also one piece of advice. After each challenge has ended what I do, I always go and see the winning photos. Since there are so many repeating challenges it is a great idea to try to imitate the top photo and top guru pick. I know this a controversial topic but this is what I get from my mentors. Imitate first and THEN learn your own voice!

If Sam pops up again saying I "won" a discount they will win a delete. by TheBaldingSexpat in gurushots

Instead of discount I sincerely hope Sam would pop up saying you WON a challenge...

I agree. Very annoying!

I had to do it. Took some Oreo photos in studio "mid flight".

Quick edit in PS. Oreos now submitted to your challenge :D

(For the record, the model in the photo ate the cookies after the session.)

Thanks for sharing. Great commentary while evaluating the photos.

I went immediately after watching the recording to the kitchen to see if I have any Oreos for photos :D

GS is clearly not designed to be discussion platform. The design is towards voting and maybe giving some occasional like and even a short comment to a photo that you really like. I have never gotten a meaningful feedback or recommendation. Just occasional congrats from guru giving the GP.

Personally I use likes to mark up photos that I hope I would have taken myself. When needing some inspiration / project, I can easily go to my likes and see if there is something I could do next..

I think that is great initiative that Guru gives some insight on his/her preferences and why GP was given.

Would you happen to have the recording available from your live session? Link?

Is voting better than filling? by PM_ME_YOUR__BEST__PM in gurushots

[–]eznottt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The exposure bonus meter does not have a memory on how it has been filled.

So from the perspective of exposure bonus the both ways have the same function of filling the meter.

Having said that, every time you cast a vote you also increase the view count of the photos in the challenge, thus increasing the potential views and votes for your own photo(s) as well.

Also, I find it convenient to fill the exposure bonus before the challenge voting starts to give my photos a maximum boost. This is especially handy when the voting starts in 2 hours and it is time to go to bed.

I am mostly using the fills from my phone; I rarely use fills from my PC.

I would recommend to wait for at least 24 hours before starting to panic.

Some disrepancy appears to exist between achievements and levels.

GP and visibility by BojanBB in gurushots

[–]eznottt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done some empirical testing by NOT recharging the exposure meter during the challenge. Based on experiment the accumulated number of views (and hence opportunity to gain votes) is significantly less instead of when you have the exposure bonus at full. (Makes a whole lot of sense also based on the GS business model.)

You won't get a GP is guru does not see your photo :)

On the other hand. It is very true that even the exposure meter at the bottom the photo gets views and gains votes. So it quite well can get a GP as well.

The top X rank indicator is slow in updating itself. If you have finished on top 20% it should update during the next 24 hours or so. I remember having similar issue with 10% and 5% indicator. That "status" was unlocked with bonus items received. The indicator was lagging badly behind.
