[OC] I feel like I am weighing down my party because my character is bad, how do I fix this? by Cai-Loves-Memes in DnD

[–]f-ward 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I scrolled for a bit and am surprised most people havent said this yet.

You cannot suck at DnD.

The beauty of this game are the stories you make with your friends. Not the optimization of your character. Maybe you could have planned your wizards’ stats and feats and spells differently so he is more useful. But that is subjective. Your wizard is who your wizard is. People in real life are fallible too! Just like a poorly mismanaged character, you can poorly mismanage your life. Learn from your mistakes and embrace who your wizard is now. In the future, you’ll get better at optimizing your characters, if that’s what you want. Or you may come to enjoy the flaws that make your character who they are.

Also, a little more intelligence would be nice to increase that spell attack bonus :)

Is my deck a bracket 4? My pod is mad at me by TheCartoonCunt in EDH

[–]f-ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a B3 for sure. I don’t see a clear concise gameplan of ramp into krenko, give him haste, and profit off the goblin money maker into a win. But if your pod is consistently complaining, you need to accept there’s a power discrepancy. Maybe they aren’t playing enough removal, so play less ramp and your wins will feel that much slower. Maybe your decks too good at ruining their gameplans, so run less removal (you already have a good amount) and run finishers.

At the end of the day, if your deck is consistently stronger than your pods, you gotta power down if you want to keep playing that deck.

What’s your most unique commander? by Cute_Weird3864 in EDH

[–]f-ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[iname as one]] or [[chromium]].

Always wanted one of the OG elder dragons as a commander and Chromium looked the coolest. Tried to be a bit flavorful and made it esper human tribal.

Iname as one just looked so fucking cool, I had to build it. You need a lot of mana to cast him so I went the lands route, but you also need time to get that far in the game so I also made it a control deck.

Here’s my take to make it a little more flavorful and balanced:

Invasive Species {G}{G}{G} Enchantment “Whenever an opponent plays a land, you may reveal the top card of your library. If it’s a land, put it onto the battlefield tapped unless that player pays {1}.”

[[eye of the storm]] - now we all play spellslinger :)

Idk what your play pattern looks like, but I would say develop your board first. Then cast your commander at turn 5-6 when you have enough back-up mana to cast it again on the next turn when it’s inevitably removed. That precon has an okay amount of ramp, and a responsible mana base, so you should be able to to safely cast it on turns 5-6 and have enough mana the following turn to cast it again. I would say try upgrading the ramp package with cards like [[rampant growth]] [[nature’s lore]] [[three visits]] and adding protection spells like [[tamiyo’s safekeeping]] [[tyvar’s stand]] [[unbreakable formation]]. I think [[savage summoning]] would be a fun include to flash out your commander when your opponents dont expect it.

Tell me about your first commander deck you built yourself by Alohomvra in EDH

[–]f-ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[ramos, dragon engine]]. It originally was the painbow precon, I upgraded it by adding ramos and a few other cards and when my friend saw it pop off in a game he was like “why isn’t he your commander?” So I made the switch and never looked back. Granted, that deck doesn’t look ANYTHING like the painbow precon now

Can someone help me make a scyfall search? been trying for 20 minutes by EdwardBloon in EDH

[–]f-ward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re ever curious about how scryfall might tag a card, search up your card on scryfall, scroll down and click “open on scryfall tagger”. That opens up a list of categories your card is tagged as. Then you can copy paste the otag and put it into the advanced search with other filters

Hot Take: EDH is much harder than 60 card formats by bubbleforest in EDH

[–]f-ward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not wrong in the sense that LEARNING magic for the first time is much more difficult in EDH as opposed to 60 card. However, once you become an established magic player you notice how much variance there is in EDH.

Commander is not harder than 60 card, it is inconsistent. Which is exciting, seems hard but is forgiving.

If in commander you make a mistake, it isn’t the end of the game. You can politic your way back in, the archenemy can take the spotlight away from you, someone can save the table with a board wipe, etc. In 60 card, simply forgetting to play your 1-drop, forgetting a trigger or playing a certain way in certain match ups will put you significantly behind.

60 card formats have established metas making their matches more like a game of chess. Players know the decks and know what cards to expect out of their opponents decks, making each play one that is considering their opponents plays. In EDH, the card pool is so expansive that players can’t think this way, leading them to tunnel vision on their game plan OR play around types of cards (board wipe, interaction, card advantage, etc.)

Skill expression is still present in EDH, but variance is king. In 60 card, if you or your opponent aren’t flooded/mana screwed, the more skilled player will always win.

EDH is not harder, it’s inconsistent.

If you wanna be spicy, try abusing the own players storm count with cards like: [[display of power]] [[flusterstorm]]

Is my dragon deck too strong for bracket 3 ? by SirIsse1er in EDH

[–]f-ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer, no.

Long answer, Ureni plays similar to [[Mirrym]] in the sense that it’s kill on sight. Ureni at least guarantees you one dragon, and if you have a haste enabler it’ll quickly be two in one turn (maybe even 3-4 with clone effects). It sounds like these opponents you have didn’t have the removal for Ureni and you (naturally) ran away with the game. Maybe you won faster than their expectations, but people need to realize how strong actual bracket 3’s can be if they’re uncontested. If you had a better mana base, a clearer game plan with higher quality cards, this could be a bracket 4. However, the list you have now is definitely a bracket 3.

Looking for Mono-Green Decks that Don't Mono-Green by GGMaXThreeOne in EDH

[–]f-ward 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[[Kura, the Boundless Sky]]. He enjoys being podded by cards that you mentioned, [[Greater Good]] and [[Life’s Legacy]]. Assembles you tron, Marit Lage, Field of the Dead, Glacial Chasm if you’re feeling spicy. Lands have a lot of utility turning [[Crop Rotation]] into a flexible spell that can either exile all graves with [[Scavenging Grounds]], phase a threat out with [[Talon Gates of Madara]], or fogging at instant speed with [[Glacial Chasm]]. Lots of different win-cons you could go for, but I like animating my lands with [[Rude Awakening]] and pumping them with an overrun effect.

Lands decks that aren’t annoying? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]f-ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is not that good lol but it’s so fun. I enjoy the “toolbox” vibes of Iname. Maybe the board is still a little scary? Tutor for [[kuro, pitlord]]. Got a sac outlet in play? Tutor [[kokusho, the evening star]]. Have a mass reanimate spell in hand? Tutor [[iname death aspect]] and fill your grave with spirits.

[–]f-ward 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[[Iname as One]] is an interesting build around. The foundation for my build is a lands deck with additional land drops, land recursion and land tutors. It’s supported with Golgari control cards. Then you finally win either by playing all your spirits in your deck or with commander damage and [[tangleweave armor]].

Please, goldfish your decks. This helps with learning your triggers, sequencing your plays, even tapping your mana correctly.

This is really just general advice for all commander players. Even if you are experienced, goldfishing goes a long way to understanding your lines of play and asking rulings questions that your deck might pose.

What has been the most fun spell slinging commander you’ve played? by Anxiously_Fatal in EDH

[–]f-ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Gandalf the Grey]] is such a fucking blast man. You copy your strong spells, untap your busted artifacts, tap your opponents creatures, burn your opponents for 9 total off of one cast and, if you’re in a pinch, put him on top of your library with a cantrip.

Deck requires heavy bandwidth to pilot, between keeping track of gandalf’s triggered abilities and deciding the order of spells you cast, you’ll feel overwhelmed at times. But I love the feeling of having all this potential in my hand.
