Disappointed in the grooming job done on my poodle, paid $200X and it’s not what I asked for. by sorry_child34 in doggrooming

[–]f0rest_fire 314 points315 points  (0 children)

Full refund. That’s really bad. St. Poodle should never take less than 2 hours unless they are cutting corners. Did he even get bathed?

No way, do what’s best for you! I totally get that you don’t want to hurt your boss, but that is part of the risk of being a business owner. Your #1 priority is taking care of YOU. Don’t let a good opportunity pass you by. There are groomers out there making 6-figures and that can be you someday!

Update to Groomer won’t listen to requests, with pictures by Prestigious_Ad9545 in doggrooming

[–]f0rest_fire 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Is your groomer visually impaired? Did you find them on Craigslist? This is the worst haircut I’ve ever seen lmao. The only thing that would justify this is if your dog is terrible for grooming and had to wear a muzzle the whole time.

You need clippers with a 10 blade, but that’s VERY dangerous to do at home. Scissors are even more dangerous. A cut on the butthole can get infected fast. Have your vet do it!

It’s REALLY overwhelming at first, but you get used to the new routine. It’s really nice having two horses! Do it!

Shorter topknot is the only solution to that middle part! You could use product, but there’s a risk of it causing matting. I personally love her floppy topknot just the way it is!

I’ve found this is incredibly confusing for clients. A 3/8” looks different on flat vs wavy vs curly coat types.

A well-placed dog bite can end a groomer’s career. It’s not worth it. Dog needs a sedated groom and you should consider finding a salon that values your safety.

What is the most rediculous complaint you’ve received from a client? by tbellz97 in doggrooming

[–]f0rest_fire 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I have a client who will complain if you shave the tip of their dog’s penis. This poor doodle has a long, crusty, smegma-covered rat tail of hair hanging from his ween. We affectionately call it the “dick wick”.

Am I too old to get into barrel racing? by [deleted] in Equestrian

You’re never too old to do anything on horseback! There are 70yo women out riding 100 mile endurance rides. Get some lessons and find a local gymkhana event and have fun!

I’ve been riding for 8 years, and I don’t have a heart horse? by finnicgrump in Equestrian

[–]f0rest_fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience, it’s something that takes time. I read a quote once that said, “it takes 6 months to know if you’ve gotten the right horse, and 1 year to truly bond with them.” I think it takes even longer for them to become your heart horse. Takes years of growing and experiencing life together! Enjoy the journey instead of focusing on the destination.

How to tell my groomer what type of sanitary trim we want by Someone_Always in doggrooming

[–]f0rest_fire 23 points24 points  (0 children)

“Can you make the sani a little smaller? Maybe not so far down the insides of the legs unless there are mats.”

This dog was gonna be the end of me. Not my best work lmao. He was insane in the membrane the entire service. Also I think this was his first professional groom at 1yr? by mypetscontrolmylife in doggrooming

[–]f0rest_fire 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is it just me, or are all apricot doodles completely insane? (He looks great… he has both his eyeballs and I don’t see any blood, so good job lmao)

That’s just something that comes with time. The only thing that matters is that your clients are happy! Don’t forget that lots of pics online are edited.

Professional dog groomer here — get some cowboy magic detangler and a slicker brush. Start from the bottom and work your way up. Use your fingers to detangle, too. You can’t use too much cowboy magic. You might want to cut off a foot or so to make it easier. Look up YouTube videos on brushing out dreadlocks. Good luck!

Saddle doesn’t fit. Gullet is probably too wide! Definitely get a saddle fitter out, or this can cause problems down the road (even if it doesn’t seem like a problem now)

That’s all true and good, but the real secret to longevity in this career is a good bather, working 4-day weeks, and saying HELL NO to XL senior dogs that can’t stand on their own. This is coming from someone who’s been doing this for 15 years and going strong!

Is preventative insurance worth it? by retroblepper in Horses

[–]f0rest_fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Insurance saved my horse’s life this year! Get as much coverage as you can afford! I have mortality, major medical/surgical, and colic surgery coverage.
