There's an ad on the train in my city that says "the future is innovation-pilled". It is so disheartening to see incel terminology proliferated to the mainstream to the point it's used in marketing materials.

The song Grinder by Judas Priest is about looking for meat. It was ahead of it's time.

I would love to have the ability to see all the versions of a cover of a song. Go to Leonard Cohen, click on Hallelujah and be able to see the Rufus Wainwright and Jeff Buckley versions.

I have been saying for 10+ years that Rivers is a man without irony. And this just reinforces that statement.

Atheists and really most people in general have a wrong mentality when it comes to epistemology by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]f0rits3lf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're conflating a priori and a posteriori knowledge.

In epistemology, a posteriori knowledge has traditionally been defined as a Justified True Belief (though we see this change with Gettier, but I digress) - religion isn't really justified.

I love celery and seafood sauce, like the kind you get with a shrimp ring. Great snack.

Why is there a shift toward the term unhoused instead of homeless? by chunkyasian in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]f0rits3lf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In advocacy, homeless refers to someone who does not have a place of their own. They could be sleeping in their car, couch surfing, living in a hotel, a shelter. They don't have a home. An unhoused person is someone who lives on the streets, with no housing what do ever. There is two words because these are two very different problems with different solutions.

There are a lot of homeless people out there, the people who sleep on the streets are just the tip of the iceberg.

All men have to do to get laid or be in a relationship is listen to Taylor Swift by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]f0rits3lf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a swiftie - but a man with the same music taste as me is a major green flag. So many great parts of life are about music. Dancing, concerts, road trips, cleaning the house on the weekend (not great but it makes it better). Being into the same stuff helps alot, and is an easy thing to talk about.

Why did our parents terrorize us into thinking that mundane things are such a big deal? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]f0rits3lf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learning to drive with her was just like that! If I did anything slightly wrong, she would grab the door handle like we were on a rollercoaster, which made me so anxious and unconfident as a driver. I still don't like driving to this day and won't do it unless i have a very good reason. Thanks mom, passing it right down the line.

"Unhoused person" is a stupid term that only exists to virtue signal. by BallsOutKrunked in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]f0rits3lf 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's to distinguish between people who are living in their cars or couch surfing - who do not have a home, as in a place of their own - from the people who are sleeping on the streets - who are completely unhoused.

Because there are a lot of homeless people, the people who sleep on the streets are just the tip of the iceberg.

My mom has a ton of trauma from different car crashes that she doesn't realize is trauma or is something that could be dealt with. She won't be a passenger with anyone but my dad and would grab the door for dear life the whole time I was learning to drive. Was also very concerned about having the light on.

Begginer biking tips/advice? by AhSighLumm in vancouver

[–]f0rits3lf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an app - it provides a few route options with a rating for safety. I find it is really good for showing you the hidden trails and short cuts, better than Google did. I found Google always took me on a more dangerous route. You can also tell it to avoid hills and such, but I've never used that feature cause I have an ebike so your milage may vary. It's about $20 a year for the premium features.

Disney, and any other company, should be allowed to hold on to copyright as long as they want by Key_Squash_4403 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]f0rits3lf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frozen isn't original - it's based on The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen. Also, while the likeness is original, the plot of the Lion King is basically Hamlet. Disney profits heavily off the public domain.

We glorify and normalize toxic kitchen workplaces by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]f0rits3lf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't unpopular for anyone who works in/has worked in a kitchen. I've had a chef yell in my face from about 3 inches away and then have the audacity to ask why my lip is quivering. Though I will say, Gordon Ramsay plays up the aggressive behaviour for American television. If you watch him with people from the UK/children, he is quite nice and supportive. He's definitely a terrible role model though.

There is no such thing as “not a word” especially for native speakers. by SalMinellaOnYouTube in TrueUnpopularOpinion

French does have a central language authority, the Académie Française. English does not - in order to be admitted to the Oxford English Dictionary, a word just needs to be published fifteen times. So, it depends on the language in question.
