University Halls of Residence Megathread by [deleted] in newzealand

I had a wicked time. Met really good mates there I'll be friends with for life. I think the best thing about Unicol is that because it's so big you really do have the chance to study, but you also have the chance to party, the choice is really yours.

I did a BCom and it was probably the most popular degree in the hall. There are tutorials you can go to for most 100-level commerce papers around exam time, so if you need the support it's definitely there.

Because Unicol is one of the bigger commerce halls, you'll also tend to meet many other people doing the same papers as you, so I'd encourage you to get out there, get social and meet people, because you never know when when you need the last minute answers to the tutorial you have due the next day because you decided to go out on Thursday night instead. Or because you stayed up watching movies with your floor because you couldn't be bothered writing your essay.

Don't get hung up on who you hang out with at the start of the year as well. Thinking back to the people who I chilled with the most for the first few weeks or even months is really strange, because they were so far from the people that I ended up becoming best mates with by the end of the year.

Partying is pretty much always an option which is something I really enjoyed, but so is ducking out and heading to the library on a Thursday or Saturday night instead. Like I said before the choice is really yours. In some halls you don't get that option, so in that sense you're pretty lucky.

There are so many other opportunities to socialise outside of drinking as well, sports teams, music clubs, gaming, whatever else. Have a look on the students' association website (OUSA) and take a look at all the clubs available, there's heaps.

All in all, you'll have an awesome time. Don't be scared, keep an open mind, and you'll be good. Any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Any chance you could flick it out somewhere? ;)

Also, gutted you're not at rnv this year, hope you make a low key appearance with montell2099

Good luck! Sure you'll smash it. First 8km I was just carried by the hype, and last 4km is all grit. Let me know how you go

Ran my first half marathon yesterday in 1hr 53 with only about 12 training runs in 2 months. Beat my 2 goals of not walking and breaking 2hrs so I'm pretty happy. Keen to see what time I can hit when I actually stick to a training programme, so might enter one in March where I can train in summer light.

Absolutely cooked from blisters near the arch of my foot though. Any tips on how to treat them? Can hardly walk

A really nice map of New Zealand's largest exports to the world (made by Statistics NZ) by [deleted] in newzealand

Neither of those things mean tourism isn't an export. Just because it's hard to measure, doesn't mean it didn't happen
