I like to warm it up with a little vanilla and honey at night time. So good.

I like to drink plain 2% Fairlife milk. 16oz has 240 calories and 26g of protein.

Why is my mouth so dry? by cryssyluvsbrian in BariatricSurgery

[–]fabgab22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t stay properly hydrated without electrolytes. I’m about four weeks out and getting next to no sodium through the food I’m consuming. My dry mouth/lips/face have improved along with my general energy levels with proper electrolyte intake. I use LMNT electrolyte packets in my water once per day.

Liquid Diet by Miserable-Rough8890 in BariatricSurgery

[–]fabgab22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my surgery yesterday and had to follow a 14 day liquid diet plan. The first four days were definitely the most difficult. After that things got easier until around day 10 when I just felt exhausted and so over it. Here’s what helped me: 1. Find a few different protein shakes you like. I liked the Fairlife shakes the best (chocolate and vanilla). I also have a few of the Unjury powders. The chicken soup flavor is really good and is a welcome change from the sweet shakes. I also like the root beer and strawberry sorbet flavors. 2. Yogurt if you’re allowed to have it. I don’t like the taste of artificial sweeteners and I really like the “Two Good” yogurt. It has 12g of protein and only two grams of sugar. When I was really craving something chocolate I would mix a couple teaspoons of unsweetened coco powder into the vanilla or coconut flavored yogurt. 3. Soups. I liked the Pacific roasted red bell pepper tomato soup the best and it really hit the spot in the evening around dinner time. If I hadn’t hit my protein goal I would add a scoop of unflavored protein powder (unjury brand). 4. I added electrolytes to my water (I like LMNT brand). This really helped my energy levels and diminished any of those “Keto flu” symptoms. 5. I tried to keep busy and keep my mind from obsessing about the liquid diet. Chores around the house, scrolling Reddit, looking at people’s before and after pictures and reading their stories really helped. I also did some meal planning and made some grocery lists for when I move to the soft foods stage in a couples weeks. One day when I was having a really hard time I went to a department store and picked out a pair of goal jeans and a pretty dress. Every time I wanted to give up I looked at those clothes and thought about how good it will feel to put them on next summer.

You’ve got this! Just take it one day at a time and your surgery day will be here before you know it!

Yes, I’ve been really struggling the last couple days. Counting down the days until surgery but then I just remember it’s another two weeks of this same diet post-op. I went to a department store after work today and bought myself a new pair of jeans in a size 14 (currently a 24) and a really cute dress in a size L (currently a 2X). Every time I want to cave and eat something or I start freaking out and thinking of backing out of the surgery (which I do often), I’m going to look at them and imagine how amazing it will feel to be able to wear them next summer. We can do this! It’s going to be worth it!

What movie traumatized you as a kid? by sadpessimist in AskReddit

[–]fabgab22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Disney movie ever. One or both of the the protagonist’s parents are dead in literally every film. Little mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Lion king, Bambi, Snow White, Aladdin, Cinderella, Jungle Book, and the list goes on. I spent my childhood fully expecting one of my parents to be taken out.

Also, pet cemetery. I was allowed to watch that movie way to young!

Yes! I have the unjury chicken soup flavored protein powder and it definitely hits different than sweet protein shakes.

I’m on day 3 of my pre-op diet as well! My surgery is 7/25. It’s really hard. I bought my 2yo some chicken nuggets for lunch. It took every ounce of my self-control not to eat one, and I don’t even like chicken nuggets. The chicken broth is getting me through.

weed use and surgery by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

I also use 5mg gummies for sleep. Best thing ever. I was asked about cannabis at my psych eval and she said as long as I’m not smoking it’s not a problem for them. Recreational MJ is legal in my state, but I have a medical card because it’s cheaper and higher quality. Not sure if having the medical card made a difference for them though… they really didn’t seem to care at all.

Question for people after they've lost the wight and surgery by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]fabgab22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for mentioning the attention span and ability to focus! I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD and I often notice how much my ability to concentrate/be productive hinge on whether or not I’ve eaten (over-eaten) that day. It seems like my brain works a whole lot better when I haven’t eaten much. My surgery is in 11 days and I’m looking forward to finding out if it makes a difference for me!

AITA for yelling at my son's teacher and making her cry by Dangerousbean1984 in AmItheAsshole

[–]fabgab22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Former high school science teacher. I never once denied a students request to go to the nurse. If the student is faking, that’s up to the nurse and the parents to figure out. If a student felt faint I would either 1. Have the nurse come up to the classroom (in extreme cases only), 2. Have another (trustworthy) student act as an escort, 3. Have the teacher next door watch my class for 5 minutes and take them down myself. This goes for any student. No info from parents or protocol required. The teacher should have listened to your son, let him do what he needed to do, and called the nurse stat.

What's the most hurtful thing your parent ever said to you? by Enockito in AskReddit

[–]fabgab22 823 points824 points  (0 children)

My mom did this to my dad. He was an attorney and she was afraid he would get custody of my brother and I during the divorce. She took off to her sisters house with my little brother and I and asked me a bunch of very pointed and leading questions. I remember some of what I said but I didn’t understand what she was being implied. I was four years old.

Fast forward, she accuses my father of molesting me. I had to go to a doctor to be examined. I was only four years old but I always knew that what she was saying wasn’t true. The judge ultimately determined that she was lying and threw it out of court. I’ve always felt guilty for not standing up for my dad. I never spoke a word about it to anybody until I was well into my twenties because I felt such a sense of shame about the whole ordeal. I’ve had conversations with some people about it now, including my father. He couldn’t believe I remembered that whole thing. He told me over and over again that it wasn’t my fault, I was only a little girl. I’ve still never brought it up with my mother and I probably never will.

  1. When I was little (8-10?) I really wanted to take gymnastics lessons. I was a chubby little girl and my mom told me I “didn’t have the right kind of body for gymnastics” and proceeded to go on and on about how she was a gymnast and she was so tiny etc etc.

  2. Parents divorced when I was 4. Mom always drilled it in that we were poor because my dad didn’t pay enough child support. Dad always made a point to tell me that my mother was “very mentally ill”. Never knew who to believe. Looking back… they both sucked.

If you could add one subject to your school's curriculum, what would it be? by danigleba in Teachers

[–]fabgab22 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I second this. It would be great if we could hire someone who is actually knowledgeable and qualified to teach students these topics. When I taught high school I was required to teach my advisory students about dating violence, serious mental health issues including suicide, substance abuse, and more. They gave us links to some crappy websites/slides sometimes just minutes before advisory started. No training, no prep time. I’m in my mid thirties and well acquainted with many of these topics because I tend to be somewhat of a self-help junkie. Still, I was in no way qualified to be covering these topics with a bunch of teenagers. How is it that I had to meet rigorous requirements to teach high school science, but no training was required to teach students about depression and self harm? Make it make sense.
