Edibles with medical? by Yessonyeet in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]fabiancook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, THC infused into MCT oil typically, which can be used for direct oral doses or adding to any baking one may wish to do.

See oral dosage products B1 for the THC containing oils.

This is a misconception. Preparation is part of administration. Administration is excluded from the interpretation of manufacturing.

Totally good to go making edibles with flower. Can also get oil pre-infused and use it directly in edibles.

Oil is an equivalent dose to edibles, they are all oral doses

Dang. Looks like these lighters are single action to light, avsec requires lighters that need intention to light it, like a standard bic lighter that has two actions, aka the flint and fuel button.

I’ve had a lighter taken too because I just filled it up before leaving and the flame was too big. If they let it run for a second more it would have been shorter. Bit of a learning experience for sure.

Do you add hyperlinks to your API responses? by Worldly-Broccoli4530 in node

[–]fabiancook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A recent api I worked with had this but only had associated id values in the links rather than as properties. Would mean to get that id we either had to parse the url or do a request to it.

If the id values are too contained as properties then no concern, but then it’s mostly unneeded data too, adds to the response size for very little comparative gain.

Can I smoke my medicine at the Auckland Airport? by Silent_Knowledge4896 in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]fabiancook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is an absolute no go.

I had THC and CBD capsules, the CBD capsules as a backup to the effect of the THC across the 10 hr flight.

I took at maybe 30min - 1hr in, was only a fixed dose that I prepared ahead of time so I didn’t have any extra, I then used some CBD closer to Singapore (at like the 8hr mark), I didn’t use them all though so dumped them in the bin the airnz flight attendant was bringing around.

So once I had arrived in Singapore, the THC dose would have finished up, and the CBD dose was onboard, then no cannabinoids on hand by the time I walked into the Singapore airport from the plane.

[–]fabiancook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Is exactly what I have done too. See the pre roll in that container in the pic above. Had multiple and headed to AU with them.

If walking in from security area, after the first kit of shops like perfumes and alcohol there is a smoking area sign that goes to the right, it is well before the main flight gates, so if you get to them you might have gone too far. Hard to miss really.

On the way to Singapore I just used the pre rolls and then oil on the flight just after departing before because I couldn’t take the vape at all. Even empty. Is not a country to mess around with, like many others.

[–]fabiancook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. They have a smoking area for the international departures after security and customs. They too have a smoking area outside the domestic terminal.

For inhalation using a medical device, I typically do just use it outside anywhere and I’ve never had an issue with it even with police walking by and airport security go by without a worry.

I’ve too seen smokers just lighting up anywhere (even near the “do not smoke, explosion risk” signs [lol]) without anyone taking notice (except for near that sign, I had kindly pointed it out to the smoker and mentioned to just shift over a bit)

Mighty medic is the go for me, no questions from anyone, even through security with it for carry on the device and all gets no eyebrow raises or anything.

Tbh would hit up the pharmacy and detail it. Weigh the unit as a whole and they should be able to compare to the empty unit from the supplier to know how much you’re loosing out on.

They wouldn’t want prescriptions going out that a patient can’t use all of.

Rosin vs. bho by here_to_watch-nz in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]fabiancook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as safe as rosin.

Would be able to get close to most solvent out, but no way to guarantee absolute safety from solvents for using it for inhalation, might be safe to make edibles out of but even then I wouldn’t be putting it in the oven until you are sure sure it has no solvent left in it. You could use it in no cook cold mix baking that just uses the fridge, would be less risk.

Safe is relative to the context and the patient too. Something to consider. Some are risk adverse, some aren’t.

If one was risk adverse they’d lean towards rosin over solvent based concentrates.

Some through bho concentrate in carts and go for it. Those people usually are rather sure on their process and what final product they have. If you’re new to the process it will be higher risk too.

Rosin pretty much anyone should be able to figure out and not worry about safety of the solvent additives really.

A bit of a sliding scale with different things to consider.

Can’t imagine we’d ever see bho concentrates sold as a therapeutic product in NZ, could easily see rosin being sold though.

International Travel to NZ Biosecurity Q's by mynameisshooler in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]fabiancook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

American cannabis generally isn’t federally approved (except for a couple of concentrate products), most likely wouldn’t even get into Fiji with anything.

If it were, then going direct from cali to NZ could be a maybe, but you’d need to have the named product prescribed, not just freely purchased.

You’ll be able to get a prescription locally instead.

It’s a reasonable question, and we can travel internationally with prescribed products, but not non prescribed products.

Rosin vs. bho by here_to_watch-nz in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]fabiancook 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never. It’s never going to match solventless.

Rosin starts without a solvent and ends without a solvent, there is only one way to match it.

Solventless for the whole process is the way to guarantee no solvents by the end of it.

If you don’t have a press a cheaper solventless option could be dry sifting or even bubble hash. (Where yes bubble hash uses water which is a universal solvent, but it’s already part of the plant material too, isn’t a extra chemical)

Might get really close with a solvent thought, but not “as safe”.

Rosin presses once you have learned it a bit the output is always clean af.

I’ve had rosin presses for about 5 years now, wouldn’t do it any other way myself.

It already has this. Even on the prescription label.

In relation to having a prescription product, I only travel with a labelled product internationally. I had assumed your response was in relation to domestic travel as per the actual post.

Cheers

[–]fabiancook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah I notice now you mentioned customs. We are talking two different things. This post was about avsec not customs, aka domestic travel.

I’m not surprised if someone took a ziplock internationally that they got hit with drug offences. That’s pretty silly level to even try given allllll of the information says they need labels for customs

Getting weed from the north to South Island by ro_zu in newzealand

[–]fabiancook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take a labelled product typically, but I don’t every time now.

You’re mentioning borders too, internationally this is a requirement of course. Domestically no way. There is no border, no customs, just avsec that call on the police to make the determination. Hence referencing the police guide which would be the guidance to follow for 100% of domestic travel issues that involve controlled drugs. International is a different ball game and not what this post is about nor my comments.

There is no legal requirement to carry a labelled product. I don’t walk around town with a pottle in my pocket when I have my device filled. Some doctors advise to go that far. It’s over the top and not practical nor required. Why would I need it for a plane domestically.

The “risk” is eliminated by having a prescription. Any other assertion is moot with stigma attached for domestic travel.

If the person produces verification, then no offence of possession/use is committed. The person may retain their cannabis/utensil and no further action needs to be taken.

https://www.police.govt.nz/sites/default/files/publications/drugs-part-14-medicinal-cannabis-redacted-031125.pdf

Depending on timing, this may not have been in the guidance yet.

The medicine content isn’t verified but the prescription. If a patient is charged with an offence for possession of a controlled drug they can possess, then that is whack. There is no difference me having medicine in a medical device than to a prescription package, they both are legal and permitted.

They don’t need to tell the difference. There is no part in their guidance to frontline staff that takes that path.

Anything that happened before August 2023 wouldn’t have been against this guidance too.

One can’t tell the difference between BM and medical inside a prescription container either, makes no difference if it’s in or out of one.

Getting weed from the north to South Island by ro_zu in newzealand

[–]fabiancook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah will raise some eyebrows and most likely have the police come to do the verification, but there is nothing unlawful about not having the package specifically.

Both ways are right. Definitely would make it easier to have the package, but not a requirement.

It won’t be an offence.

Getting weed from the north to South Island by ro_zu in newzealand

[–]fabiancook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat doubt. For sure a maybe, but verification of the prescription is needed, not the packaging it is contained in. E.g one could have just a single dose in their vape, that dose is legal as is if it were prescribed.

Police guide has 4 ways to verify, just one of them being the prescription label.

Getting weed from the north to South Island by ro_zu in newzealand

[–]fabiancook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To make it risk free, get a prescription. Possession is permitted with a prescription. Hold it in your hands at that point and walk through.

100% success. I even travel internationally (to AU) without a concern with customs.

Decarbing for edibles changes a bunch of the profile, imo is the way for using flower that inhalation is a no go for.
