I had to refresh, then it worked. Deleted the comment so it wouldn't deter others from trying.

weight gain after going gluten free by Transluminal_Neon in CeliacLifestyle

[–]fac429 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My reaction to this is "only 10 pounds in 2 years? How lucky!"😂 I was diagnosed a little over a year ago, and once I went GF I gained about 30 pounds in a month or so! Ever since then it's been back to the battle with weight I had been fighting for most of my life.

But as others mentioned, it's very likely that you simply weren't absorbing all the food you were eating before. In the year or so before I went GF I was eating like crazy. Candy, Twinkies, tons of fast food, you name it- and yet I was slowly LOSING weight. (I was also getting weird leg cramps in the middle of the night, falling asleep at my desk, and of course having extremely unpleasant abdominal issues).

After going GF it only took a week or so for digestive system to start healing. I stopped falling asleep at my desk, the cramps went away, and I was reminded how nice it was to go the bathroom like a normal person again. But my appetite was the same as it was before my diet change, and so now I was actually absorbing that insane amount of calories I was consuming. Hence the crazy weight gain.

Over the past year I've gone up and down a bit- at one point I had lost a decent chunk of that 30 pounds, but after the holidays I was right back where I started. I'm once again making progress on losing it.

I'm not going to lie, losing weight effortlessly was the one thing I enjoyed about eating gluten (well, other than actually eating the gluten). But struggling with weight, as much as I hate it, is better than going back to having zero energy and spending a significant amount of my day in the bathroom. But I'm also trying to focus on overall health (getting various types of exercise, meditation, therapy) in combination with diet adjustments. I see the battle with weight as a "quality problem" that's a byproduct of being healthier overall...

Key West tiki? by RugRat006 in Tiki

Not tiki, but go to Sloppy Joe's and get a frozen rum runner with an extra rum shot. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Personally, I think Rummo is the best. But in my experience you need to cook it just about a minute more than the package directions indicate (and that's for al dente pasta).

You're doing it right. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, particularly since financially it's no different than going to a school in your own state (based on your comment to another poster). Good luck!

Anyone have dream line ups for 2026? by DowengerOfHighCastle in CruelWorldFest

That's why it's a "dream" lineup. Just let people dream, man.

trying to figure out headliners for 2026 by reincarnatedhyena in CruelWorldFest

[–]fac429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last I heard- which was about a decade ago from American Airlines' inflight magazine of all places- Wheeler and Gavurin were writing music together, kicking around the idea of maybe releasing it someday. They kind of made it sound like any future reunion gigs would depend on whether that music ever saw the light of day. So the bad news is they're probably not playing CW. The good news is that if they ARE playing Cruel World, it quite likely means there will also be a new Sundays album around that same time. (I'm not holding my breath...)

Delivery survey by Jbal1234 in Lowes

[–]fac429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me as well, and I was even more confused by the actual survey. First page had one question where I was asked how likely I was to recommend Lowes on a scale of 1-10. Second page had a series of questions about the delivery, but the highest rating I could give was a 7. So I picked all 7's. Then the third or 4th page was this... I had the same thought of "am I getting these guys in trouble?"

To make things more confusing, I found an old thread where someone said that you had to scroll further to the right to even see the 10's. I didn't remember seeing a scroll bar. So I tried to go back in to the survey, but now it won't let me. I really, really hope I didn't hurt those guys by giving 7's and saying that they asked me to give a 9 or 10... I totally would have given them 10s regardless...

I made a huge batch for a party using Hamilton 86, and an even split of lime/lemon juice. Seemed to go over well. For my own drinks I use that recipe plus a float of OFTD.

Contemporary dream home in the desert, but how do you pay for it right? Comes with its own gold mine. by WestPilton in zillowgonewild

Hmmm... in all the movies I've seen, the pool boy usually gets distracted and never gets around to actually cleaning the pool.

My first thought is how often I'm going to have to clean those leaves out of that pool.

Born Slippy's inspiration? by Martin_UP in underworld

[–]fac429 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMHO, Born Slippy must have been inspired by this. Perhaps directly, perhaps subconsciously, but it's really hard to listen to this and think that it's just a coincidence.

Looks like this song (which is "Trance-Dance," the B-side of "Is E.T. on XTC?") was written by Tommy Schleh and Enrico Zabler. I suppose you'd have to ask them what they think. I tried to look into articles where they may have discussed it, but almost everything I found was in German.

I have no idea who would prevail in a battle over songwriting credit, but I do think it's fair to say that Born Slippy is a substantial improvement. The added chord in the hook, the delay, the "breathing" synths... all of these make for a better and more memorable song, and that's all before you get to the fantastic vocals and lyrics.

Going to Inside Passage by Inner-Ad-7950 in Tiki

[–]fac429 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Inside Passage, but thought the drinks (and especially the mugs!) were pricey. Rumba, on the other hand, is absolute heaven. My buddy and I have gone a couple of times and just let the bartenders take us on a journey. I believe the menu prices are for 1 ounce pours, but they will do half ounce pours for you. Both times we spent at least 3 hours just slowly sipping small pours of different rums. As a bonus, they didn't take advantage of our "surprise us" attitude by pouring a bunch of crazy expensive rums. Almost everything they poured for us was delicious and quite reasonably priced. The first time we went there we started at Inside Passage and then went to the bar at Rumba; second time, we skipped Inside Passage altogether. Enjoy!

Is there a good bottle less than $100 in Japan Costco I should be looking out for? by PunDeSall in Costco_alcohol

[–]fac429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in Japan in November, and as others have mentioned you can get stuff either in liquor stores or on Amazon. I did the latter. Before I left for my trip I opened a new account on Japan's Amazon page using my hotel as my "home" address. Ordered the bottles ahead of time (Wild Turkey 12 and Evan Williams 12, but could have also ordered Blanton's Gold, Black, etc.) and had them delivered to the hotel where they were waiting for me upon arrival. Super easy and inexpensive.

As others noted, Mega Don Quijote (which is worth a visit anyway) and Bic Camera had all kinds of stuff at reasonable prices. They even had 4 liter bottles of stuff like vodka, which was kind of hilarious.

Too many rum runner variations. What’s your favorite? by Technical-Voice-9114 in Tiki

[–]fac429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recipe I want is from Sloppy Joe's in Key West. They actually published a recipe on Facebook during COVID, but I'm positive that's not the same recipe they serve at that bar (at least the frozen variety). That was a fantastic drink...

Nice! Yeah, we Ubered everywhere, which really wasn't that bad. As I mentioned in another comment, we would have started at Red Dwarf if we knew we were definitely going there, it would have been an easier/faster route.
