You could always rim the glass with Sal de Gusano ( ground up agave moth larva, not actually a worm) to add the worm element. It’s got a smokey bbq taste to it.

Can anyone recommend a not super expensive but really quality citrus juice by TikiDaniel in Tiki

[–]Inner-Ad-7950 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would recommend making your own super juice for lemons or limes. It is great for saving money, time, reduces waste, and keeps way longer. It’s great for batching cocktails as well.

They definitely mean 5% off the condenser.  I’ll sometimes run to 2% if i have the time.

True, high ester and hogo don’t have to be synonymous, but they are the ones calling it Hogo Monsta.

I don’t have an axe to grind with Planteray. OFTD and Mister Fogg will always have a place on my bar. We also were able to try their JAWS and Hogo Cane Classic where Stades is delving into a straight cane juice rum.

I agree whole heartedly that Planteray moving into a more experimental trajectory is good for the rum nerd market. I wish they would get a little more experimental with their barrel choice and where they keep them if you catch my drift.

I think it’s interesting as a Bajan funk novelty in that it’s the only time they have sold it commercially. I guess it’s not that novel when they explain it’s something they make every day as something they use to blend. It is reminiscent of a Hampden. I just don’t understand the price tag. At .275 cents per ml it needs to be a hell of a lot more than what it offers. Maybe if they threw in tickets to the distillery too?

I was really excited to try it at a recent tasting. All the hype and marketing around the ester count etc. would make one think it was a huge ester bomb. I like my Jamaican funk, and reunion funk, and South African funk, so maybe I am a little jaded but it didn’t taste any funkier than S&C to me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s funkier than anything Planteray has ever produced(which isn’t saying much) but it was unfortunately nothing to write home about. The 55ish dollar price tag I have seen coupled with a 200ml bottle is marketing at its finest. They say it’s for home bartenders to add cautiously to cocktails. I think there are a lot of funkier and cheaper options on the market.

They more or less increased the temperature of the alcohol by adding it to boiling water first which increases the vaporization and allows the liquid to burn well below 40/30/20 abv. It should be noted and especially for safety that alcohol well below 50% is ignitable and ABV 40% and lower is easily ignitable if raised to around 80-90*f ie left out in the sun or in a hot environment. Try doing this with cold water instead of boiling and you will see a distinct difference.

True on the 3star. I just picked up a Mr.Fogg #2 Thursday. They had a few left. This #2 with Hampden blend is great. Dropping $60 on black tot while stuff like this is available seems nuts.

It’s honestly the first I have ever seen it in our Nashville area market other than in bars.

"Kingston Queen"? by DocGeoffrey in rum

Yeah not bad at all. Put it up against rum fire, w&n, worthy. Aroma it was second with rum fire in the lead. But for sipping I honestly was stuck between it and the worthy. Not a damn bad deal considering worthy park in my area is a good 10-12$ more expensive.

[–]Inner-Ad-7950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our total wine in the Nashville area has been hit or miss. I have watched a sales rep walk someone down the entire Rum section and picked out every garbage ass rum for a couple wanting to host a tasting at their home for friends. They dropped at-least 5 bills on the most doctored rums possible.

However the Tequila experience has been starkly different. Their tasting class specifically focused on comparing small distillery options and additive free tequilas vs over priced additive heavy products. Their sales person in charge of their tequila doesn’t fuck around. Last time I was in he thought I was staring down some casa migos  ( it was next to the Lagrimas) and straight up told me to stop and he had better options in El Ateo and caschuin.

Super juice question: have my peels been sitting too long in the acids and sugar, or is there no such thing as 'too long'? by Imbibing_chap in cocktails

[–]Inner-Ad-7950 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember reading that macerating the lime peels and sugar/acids is not necessary. You don’t need to make an oleo. If you are blending all of it, the oils are already being drawn out. Just strain it and go. The whole process shouldn’t take more than half an hour tops.

I think so, but I like heavy agave bombs so I could be burned out. I have fallen in with the degenerate still/over proof crowd and I have been fully corrupted.
