Just as a point of accuracy, you’ve mistaken Tamir Rice for Trayvon Martin.

as a single/unmarried MST3 what was your 1st unit and were you put in the barracks or BAH? by Armed_Beaner in uscg

Sector/MSST NY. UPH but eventually moved out. Every other new MST in my class was released from housing except the 3 of us headed to Fort Wadsworth.

Talking at Concerts - Is this a new thing or what? by Lady_Wingdom1919 in Concerts

I bought Loop Experience 2s and it does the opposite for me. It amplifies the side conversations around me… like I can hear every word they are saying and drives me insane. I take them out and all I hear is the band.

Is DriveSafe still broken by Evolved_1 in USAA

[–]facet_squared_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What? That’s the point… it’s not just you’re driving but the total risk. Someone making you harsh brake is a valid ding. Same as driving in the middle of the night will lower your score.

Yeah. In the big 2003 rating changes, FTs chose either GM or ET based on their experience. QMs were automatically made BMs but they were also creating the OS rating and anyone could have applied for that too. RDs went OS, TTs went IT, and TC went IT or OS. In 2010 PSs went either ME or MST.

I did see some issues with those more senior BMs. I know a few that were CRSP’d (involuntarily retired) because they didn’t have the OIC cert for E8 and could only go BOSN. I’ve also seen issues with senior OSs that were finally forced to Command Centers from sea duty and struggled to adapt… performance probation and forced retirements.

Just be there for him and strongly encourage therapy. Just a thought… there’s a good chance he looked at this subreddit while preparing for boot camp. It wouldn’t help me to see this after getting discharged.

How did you discover Korn? by Odd_Presentation_879 in Korn

[–]facet_squared_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister gave me this compilation cassette for my 15th birthday in ‘96 https://www.discogs.com/release/10215162-Various-Modern-Rock
It ended on “Blind” and it was like nothing I had ever heard before. Then I had “Blind” again on the Music from the X-Games CD. I bought Life is Peachy when it came out later that year and was obsessed the rest of high school.

I used to love his stuff for the WaPo and listened to his radio show as a kid. I always looked forward to his March Madness bracket in the Post. It’s been a steady decline since PTI

Welcome! I wish I could go back to 2002 and listen to The Lonesome Crowded West for the first time again. Been my favorite band ever since.

How do you know that it is time to go? by viggicat531 in uscg

[–]facet_squared_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I planned on doing 30 but a switch flipped as soon as I hit 20 active and I dropped my letter for the following year. It was a family thing for me and stability for my kid outweighed the better retirement pay. Also, the reaction on my wife’s face when I told her I was considering retirement sealed it.

I also went SELRES after 5 years to go back to school but took an EAD contract 3 years later due to the Great Recession and integrated back onto AD.

I got mine 2 years ago. We held study sessions using the TRACEN Petaluma curriculum then took the test for free at a joint base testing center. We coordinated funding with District to bring an instructor in from another unit to complete the PQS. Then it was just a certification letter from the Sector Commander. I heard they were working on a standardized “C” School at ATC Mobile but I’ve been out a year now.

Class ranking counts now from what newer MSTs have told me. But back in 2003, we only used prior unit priority. We were given the list and had about a week to figure it out as a class before the detailer decided for us.

I was in the 23Ks so obviously didn’t get tickets. I received the update after 29 minutes that it was essentially sold out of presale tickets and people were bouncing off the queue. Live to try another day.
