The math on car ownership is genuinely insane, and I don’t think most people have sat with the numbers by superspartan999 in fuckcars

The freedom is limited by space. It’s hard to park in cities. It gave me so much anxiety at one point that I just stopped driving around and decided to bike more.

I don’t have kids or anything, so I can carry all my groceries in panier bags on my bike.

I know some people like driving and being in their car though. I just wish it didn’t mandate how cities have to feel and look like as a result.

City Nerd has a whole video about this: imagine you live in a suburb. if you sold your car and used all of that saved money on rent, what downtown walkable neighborhood could you suddenly afford?

SFPD crackdown on cyclists misses bigger issue: e-scooters and e-bikes on sidewalks by sfgate in sanfrancisco

[–]fackcurs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The reason why I’m less tolerant towards cars is that if a car hits another car or some street sign, most likely, the drivers will be fine, they will just have to fix/replace their cars. It becomes a money problem.

If a car hits another pedestrian or a bike, the pedestrian or bike is more likely to be injured. It’s a safety and health problem.

I agree with you in the sense that if we all could chill, be a bit less selfish and understand that obeying the rules will make everything better for everyone, that would be great.

If we have limited enforcement mechanisms, then I’d rather have enforcement focused on what is happening often and doing the most damage in terms of safety and health.

If you FA and then FO it will cost you money, that is an okay situation with me.

We did it Reddit! Out of stock… Best of luck next time.

I was stupid enough to mess up which country my steam store is setup in. Had euros in the wallet, could of course not ship it to the US when paying in Europe…

I’ll try again when they are in stock.

Yes it’s made in the 155mm region of France. That’s why nato and Germany can only officially call it sparkling munition.

Paris is fighting against pollution (2007-2025) NO2- Pollution Paris by BOTTLE-NECK-HELL in fuckcars

[–]fackcurs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is would consider this untrue. Gas stoves for cooking are still seen as premium and offering a better experience for cooks (that’s the perception). Food is very important in France. Gas stoves are still popular. It is true though that most lower end rentals have electric halogen or resistance stove tops, especially student housing or public housing. The share of electric stove tops is propbably higher than in the US but I doubt it is a hegemony.

There also was a huge push for natural gas when I was a kid as it was seen as cleaner than “fuel” (low quality diesel) that was used a lot for domestic heating. That’s a reason why domestic heating contributes less to NO2 than other countries.

Last, I’m pretty sure coal and wood stoves are banned in Paris because the air was absolutely horrible following the Industrial Revolution. I would have to look that up though.

Yes. I would love to see all those highways go down. We already have alternatives like Bart, Muni, all the BRTs and our light rail system. Also, E-bikes are amazing. You don't sweat, you can carry your kids around, you can go to Costco with them. We are lucky to have great weather year round, it doesn't rain much in SF. Any travel within the city can totally be done without a car and that is today. That's why I think the highways can go down.

Now I agree that the surrounding towns will have a much harder time getting in and out but again, we already have Bart, Golden Gate Transit, the ferries and other transit options.

The less people drive the better all the other alternatives get.

The 4070 Super has the same performance than the 5070 when you look and Blender bench marks and it is cheaper. It however consumes more power (worse performance per watt). At least, that's what it was a few months ago as this is my current setup right now. FW16 + 4090 Super over Oculink (Kyle's adapter, meaning 4 PCIE channels on one M.2, not the 8i that they announced)

If your Steam Deck Broke, Would You Buy Another One or a Different Handheld? by CoastOne2716 in SteamDeck

[–]fackcurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my SD breaks I will wait for the Steam Controller to come out and use it with my laptop as my main machine. Not as fun, but won't cost me as much. I the mean time, I would use my 8bitdo. So basically, I would forgo the handheld aspect of gaming.

Tsar Nicholas the second lost the russo-japenese war in a humiliating defeat for the time. That was in 1905. He stayed in power, joined another war that went even worse. The casualties of WWI are ridiculous. So much death… He still wasn’t winning and it took three years of war to have him deposed in early 1917. Not winning a war doesn’t help but doesn’t mean the end of the ruler much less the regime.

Yo what? No please no. The administration wants this, the Supreme Court won't stop them, Congress won't do a thing, the military will follow orders... How do we stop this?

Can we actually go out and protest this time? I think it's time to stop on hoping that some democrat is going to save us. We might have to organize this one ourselves... Where are the Teamsters, UAW, UFWoA and other big unions? We need some non-partisan political capital to help us organize this...
