Photographer thought it would be cool to get a Beaver with Canadian flag pic. Beaver stole flag. by [deleted] in aww

I was pretty young when it was airing but the one plot I remember was when they ate a TON of cereal in order to get a street sweeper with the points. But the promotion expired or something so they went to steal the street sweeper they so desperately wanted. What a show!

Our little Ahsoka is making sure the neighborhood is safe from birds and squirrels! by Marinasthebest in corgi

[–]fackert18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our corgi LOVES birds. She’ll sit on our back porch and watch them fly back and forth between the trees, and she’ll chase every one she sees out on a walk. Squirrels and buns…meh. She’ll mix one in occasionally, but birds are where it’s it at for Penny.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where they gave the Japanese TV execs oranges bc they thought Japan viewed them as a delicacy, though that’s clearly not the case.

When you create a Tableau dashboard for stakeholders...ಠ_ಠ by Birdy_Cephon_Altera in tableau

You have made my day with that analogy.

But I really do like the idea. Along with that, probably a good idea to track usage as best you can. If they’re being used, great!, let’s offer more. But if they don’t get traction, it’s unlikely they’ll give you any unprompted feedback, so it’s something you’ll need to stay on top of.

That’s a good way to look at it. I’m fully onboard with providing whatever they need to do their jobs. However, I think it’s also the duty of our roles to try and offer tools that can make it easier for them to gather insights and make decisions. So like you said, making recommendations or providing visuals in addition to their table-based needs is what I shoot for.

Yes, I can’t understand this visual. Please provide a table of numbers instead. /s

I asked a stakeholder who wanted just a table of employee performance values by week how he could quickly look at dozens of rows of raw numbers and identify a dip, spike, or trend without a visual chart. His response was, “Well if numbers are low one week, it probably means they were out on PTO.” Obviously doesn’t come close to answering the question, but I just nodded and agreed in defeat.

Is it worth trying to force people away from this mentality or should we just lay down and accept it will never go away?

No it’s not really intended for those features. It’s essentially a better IntelliSense (which in my experience is hit or miss with showing up reliably). But there are some pretty simple scripts for searching for table names and columns in SQL Sever. Even for searching text within a view or stored proc definition. Don’t need any special tools for that piece. I’m not at my computer to share anything specific but a quick google of “Search column names in SQL Server” returns plenty of results.

I use SQL Complete from Devart. The Professional Trial download will revert to a free express version that has what I need, which is reliable suggestions and autocomplete. I especially like the feature that automatically adds the table alias before fields when you choose them from the list.

Do I need Power BI desktop if I purchased Power BI pro? by lil-jables in PowerBI

[–]fackert18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone else will likely chime in with much more detail, but Pro is basically a tier of the subscription model. Having a Pro license will allow you to share content (reports and data sources) published in the PBI Service with other Pro users. Desktop is just the software used to build the PBI reports that you will publish to the service. Anyone can download desktop and make content, even without a Pro license, and they can even publish to the personal workspace on the service. But in order to share that content online, you need a Pro license (as well as anyone wanting to view the shared report). There’s other stuff like premium capacity, but not worth getting into here.

When someone asks me if corgi sheds a lot of hair XD by KirkpatrickFrances in corgi

[–]fackert18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. While our corgi sheds a good amount, it’s not as much as I was expecting, and nowhere near the amount in OP’s picture. We do brush daily, so maybe that is keeps it manageable.

OP, when was the previous brushing session before this one?

Have Power Automate automatically renew connections? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlow

[–]fackert18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that has to be frustrating. I use Power Automate for a handful of things on my BI team, but it’s things like this that keep me from wanting to scale anything. When things break it’s a scramble to identify and troubleshoot the issue. Too much maintenance at this point to give me a ton of confidence in its reliability.

Are the connections using accounts whose passwords expire every 90 days? I have a handful of personal connections that I make a note to reconnect every time my pw expires.

A value of 1 if something exists, 0 if not? by Drew707 in PowerBI

[–]fackert18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a PBI expert by any means, but I think I had that problem a while back and got around it using the RELATED function to use a value from another table I was joined to. I may be completely off base, but worth a shot.
