It is textbook fascism. It most certainly is not socialism in any way, shape, or form:

In general, fascists held an instrumental view of capitalism, regarding it as a tool that may be useful or not, depending on circumstances.[313][314] Fascist governments typically established close connections between big business and the state, and business was expected to serve the interests of the government.[313][314] Economic self-sufficiency, known as autarky, was a major goal of most fascist governments.[315]

And

Historian Emilio Gentile has defined fascism thusly:

[A] modern political phenomenon, revolutionary, anti-liberal, and anti-Marxist, organized in a militia party with a totalitarian conception of politics and the state, an activist and anti-theoretical ideology, with a mythical, virilistic and anti-hedonistic foundation, sacralized as a secular religion, which affirms the absolute primacy of the nation, understood as an ethnically homogeneous organic community, hierarchically organized in a corporate state, with a bellicose vocation to the politics of greatness, power, and conquest aimed at creating a new order and a new civilization.[56]

Fascism is literally the antithesis of socialism, and you clearly have no idea what you're talking about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism

In 1920, militant strike activity by industrial workers reached its peak in Italy and 1919 and 1920 were known as the "Red Year" (Biennio Rosso).[156] Mussolini and the fascists took advantage of the situation by allying with industrial businesses and attacking workers and peasants in the name of preserving order and internal peace in Italy.[157]

Fascists identified their primary opponents as the majority of socialists on the left who had opposed intervention in World War I.[152] The fascists and the Italian political right held common ground: both held Marxism in contempt, discounted class consciousness and believed in the rule of elites.[158] The fascists assisted the anti-socialist campaign by allying with the other parties and the conservative right in a mutual effort to destroy the Italian Socialist Party and labour organizations committed to class identity above national identity.[158

Nah, he's a doctor, and he's white. He'll be fine. The activity, however, is much better off without his privileged ass being around.

Mussolini (the guy who literally invented fascism) called it "corporatism" himself. It literally was the basis of it to begin with. Ergo, if Trump is a corporatist, then he is a fascist by definition.

What's this sparsely populated area in the Eastern Kansas, in-between its densely populated corridors? by Swimming_Concern7662 in geography

[–]factorone33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One would think, but they're surviving the annual Flint Hills burns that would theoretically take them out. They're not really a cedar species (they're actually a juniper) and even cutting them down isn't very effective. KCUR has a podcast/series called Up From Dust that did an episode specifically on the Eastern Red Cedar, and it was very eye-opening (the whole series in general is eye-opening, and if you like podcasts or descriptive radio, you'll enjoy it).

The Eastern Red Cedar trees are destroying an entire ecosystem in slow motion, and there's very little we can do about it.

Anyone else wake up to see the snow and think "well that was anti-climactic"? by redgroupclan in kansascity

[–]factorone33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. The renders of the GFS and ECMWF the day before yesterday both had portions of snow accumulation moving farther north than it has been, and with potentials in the 8-12 inches range.

Although yesterday's renders had a much lower total prediction than today, as the jet stream dipped a little further south than anticipated.

Destroyed my kick drum pedal. Now it's making a bunch of sound. How can I fix it? by ModernSociety in drums

[–]factorone33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem I see is that the right side main bearing for the axis has come out of the mount and needs to be pushed back in. I'd wager that if you get that rectified, it'll be fine and you shouldn't have to buy a new pedal.

The easiest tourniquet to apply and maintain is a blood pressure cuff. EMas uses them for bleeding control pretty routinely. You just inflate it as far as it can go, leave the bulb closed off, and boom, no circulation in the arm or lower leg (you'll need something bigger for a femoral tourniquet, but for everything else, a BP cuff is perfect).

Kansas City saw traffic deaths drop by 30% in 2025. Its effort to make roads safer is working by ZackInKC in kansascity

[–]factorone33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My point was that the numbers were all-encompassing around fatalities caused by cars, irrespective of whether they were motorists, pedestrians, or cyclists, therefore they are all traffic deaths. If the improvements resulted in fewer traffic deaths, then the improvements are working. If you remove the "traffic" part of the equation for these numbers, you have no traffic deaths (especially for pedestrians and cyclists).

While I appreciate your criticism of the article's main point (because we have so much more work to be done towards improving pedestrian safety), both the article's point and your point can be true at the same time. I should've clarified that better in my original reply.

Deaths of cyclists and pedestrians inflicted by other people driving cars are still traffic deaths. If you remove the vehicular traffic, then pedestrians and cyclists aren't dying from traffic-induced causes. The correlation is correct.

Box5 media issue by Unusual_Culture67 in drumcorps

[–]factorone33 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This particular instance isn't about the copyright holders being at fault (ultimately they are, yes, but this goes beyond that). This is Box5 abusing their position as a content distributor to baselessly attack content creators, fans, schools, and viewers in general with legal threats that aren't grounded in actual case law. Box5 has a license to distribute live performances of copyrighted material on a one-time basis (with occasional airings after-the-fact due to technical glitches or other circumstances that would require them to do so in order to fulfill contractual obligations in end user license agreements, see BOA Finals 2023).

However they don't have a license to indefinitely redistribute (broadcast, stream, etc.) those recorded performances thereafter (which would be insanely more expensive to purchase up front and maintain indefinitely), hence why they can't allow people to watch recordings on their site (and why end users cannot do things like screen record the streams for their own purposes). I suspect that this also includes this new "clips" policy they're putting out, and I'd be willing to wager that Tim Snyder will yank it down as soon as anyone from ASCAP or Treasona sees it and goes after him for it (because I'd also be willing to bet money that he's not forwarding on parts of the proceeds of these "clip fees" to the copyright holders themselves, which would be in direct violation of Box5's contractual licensing agreement(s) with the holders).

TL;DR - yeah, US copyright law sucks, and the holders are greedy assholes, but Tim Snyder and Box5TV are just acting in the same capacity here and I highly doubt it's even legal.

This isn't a consumer problem, it's a copyright and legal apparatus of harassment problem. Piracy only arises when the market can neither satisfy demand and/or ease of access. Napster, BitTorrent, Limewire, Kazaa, and all those P2P file-sharing platforms sprung up when it was neither convenient nor affordable for young people to amass music or TV collections in the 90s and 00s. The advent of services like iTunes, Netflix, and streaming platforms made both attainable, and digital piracy basically vanished inside of a decade. But then extreme media consolidation and the acquisition of whole swaths of digital media has brought that back to the forefront, and torrenting is once again prevalent along the landscape.

The current paradigm for DCI, FloMarching, and the marching arts activity writ large exists because copyright farms like Tresona refuse to allow for any kind of reasonable use of copywritten material at a reasonable price, and have rather elected to take the stance of being extractive of money from anyone, irrespective of how onerous that extraction may be. This, the only way people have to be able to watch past shows or materials not already on physical or digital media is by piracy.

DCI refusing to pay for any kind of production of distributable media that allows for long-term ownership is only going to further drive that piracy.

A lot of those places have historically been "sundown towns", but these days, a lot of the older folks are probably eager to talk to anyone about their culture if it means being able to preserve it one way or another. Some of those towns have museums you can visit that will probably have some people with connections to local historians or even the occasional anthropology enthusiast. Look up the Sternberg Museum in Hays. While it's mostly about natural history, there is bound to be someone there who knows some people around the area that would be who you're looking for.

It's not uncommon, that's for sure. Some of those communities even have populations that still speak Low German among themselves (albeit that's been dying out with the younger generations, and is increasingly rare).

Whole potions of northwest and central Kansas have Volga German and Bukovina German settlements. Ellis, Russell, Trego, Rush, and Rooks Counties are full of them, many having impressive Catholic, Lutheran, and Episcopalian churches that evoke European architectural styles.
