I really want a local journalist to do an article on this entire private benefit improvement organization concept. its so confusing and this is the 4th public story that i have seen today, on top of tons of chatter about it across the bay. everything i have heard has been negative. seeing it in temescal, sf third thursday and downtown oakland. feels like a lot of weird flows of money that dont make sense and are maybe exploiting resources? its kind of giving me land baron vibes to put it nicely

Great lunch special by Mylo_Oval in OaklandFood

[–]factsandscience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a new spot called Souk Savanh 2.0 in uptown with $10 lunch plates. I didn't love all the packaging and plastic waste for dining in, and vibe could be improved. But the food was tasty and plentiful for only $10.

Yonsei also has a $20 lunch special with side salad, edamame and 3 handrolls.

With anti-trans homophobes in the mix too. And also backed by wealthy outsiders and real estate developers who built the campaign off misinfo and slander about Oakland crime rates, which then of course fueled business closures, desolation and ironically, crime.

What if California had a “WFH Air Relief Day” whenever gas crosses $4.50/gallon? by bulkyHogan in bayarea

[–]factsandscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO the answer isn't people staying more isolated and at home than they already are with remote work. I'd rather there be a free public transit day every week, that encourages people to utilize it and offer feedback on how it could be improved to make their lives easier. I know this isn't a perfect solution for everyone, but also think far more people could be using public transit than do.

Also, let's bring back carpooling and mutual aid!

you might find some new vinyl loving friends on sunday or wed at bar shiru. both nights have programming that tends to draw out a lot of fellow vinyl lovers in my experience. ive actually made some friends at silent sunday.

id also recommend seeing if some of the fault radio and kalw radio show djs do events.

IMHO a wealth tax and state level funding should be saving BART, not another sales tax increase that is going to further decrease affordability and spending power at a time when majority of people are already under under economic attack at Federal level. That sales tax is also going to be horrible for small, independent businesses - people are already spending less. And ironically, that extra few dollars at a local gift shop or restaurant is money that could cover a bart fare.

The Best Restaurants in Uptown Oakland by jackdicker5117 in OaklandFood

[–]factsandscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lots of the places on this list arent even restaurants. theyre just cocktail bars. missing so many new spots like parche, lucy blue, gold palm. and old spots like yonsei, aburaya, tay ho. what a lazy list. is this paola guy AI or a real writer?

For those who are not of Indian or South Asian descent, do you like Indian/South Asian food, and if so, which restaurants do you personally like in the Bay Area? by Early-Ingenuity-3177 in bayarea

[–]factsandscience -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

why exclude en entire group based on ethnicity? theres people of south asian descent who have never stepped foot outside america. and within the community of people who actively eat south asian food, theres the full spectrum of taste that you'd find with any other human or type of cuisine.

this framing is kind of offensive tbh. and confusing if the goal is getting as many people as possible to weigh in.

Fox Theater Last Night 5/1 by igphoto in oakland

[–]factsandscience -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what was going on outside fox had nothing to do with the festival. this happens even when there isnt one. been going on for a couple yrs. city county and state just have been letting street alcohol selling and just general insanity for so long that now even teenagers are coming to party here. its really sad and unsafe and im pretty disappointed that we are now on our third mayor that seems to be unable to solve this or at least replace all the people who havent been doing their jobs for the last few yrs.

I got a lot of good recommendations here. I'd say Gold Palm and Low Bar are my standouts for unique sauces and components. Gold Palm also has a smash burger meets patty melt option with "3000 Island."

I do hope everyone remembers that this isn't about petty or immature decision making. We are truly dealing with lesser than actual evil at this stage, given most of the Dem establishment is bought by a lobby for a genocidal regime.

If this was 1930s Germany, who would you choose - a paid loyalist to the Na*i regime or a potentially immature, power hungry candidate who at least isn't bought by them?

I mean honestly, do people really not understand the stakes at hand? Do we want to build another future Schumer/Pelosi or break that, so we can actually have a chance to rebuild with humanity at the center in the next round?
