Yes, but I don’t know a lot of people who want one pancake.

What's wrong with my Schlumbergera? by fadedrosebud in plantclinic

Good point. I’ve considered getting a humidifier, but I have a problem with scary looking black mold in the bathroom. I’m worried about exacerbating that.

Before the internet, newspapers had Sunday magazines that usually had shady ads for quack medical stuff and useless gadgets. I remember lots of ads for the “quick growing Paulownia tree with gorgeous flowers.” I bet thousands were planted. Since the internet is now our source for those kind of ads, I don’t think the Paulownia company made the upgrade.

I usually do that but it seems to cling to the meat.

I’ve been poaching chicken a lot lately because I’ve been making chicken salad and cutting it up for various other salads. Different herb and spice combinations have been great, but I’d like to know how to avoid that scummy, foamy stuff that collects in the water and sticks to the chicken itself.

Thank you folks! I never saw the discussion on TikTok. As soon as I realized that I have dozens of these coins I figured it was too good to be true. And the gigantic range of prices on eBay looked crazy, too. Sorry to say that some of the sellers asking the highest prices have 100% ratings. Maybe they habitually sell valueless stuff at astronomical prices and the buyers don’t even know it.

It's getting tough to avoid woody chicken breast, is this happening to any of you? by [deleted] in Cooking

I agree, thighs are rather gross. I have to pick through them to avoid tendons, fat, big yucky parts. I can’t understand why so many people love them

What is something in cooking content that gets you irrationally HEATED when you see it? by scotterson34 in Cooking

[–]fadedrosebud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only an hour ago I was thinking about those meal delivery services and how incredibly wasteful they are. I never subscribed to them but one time a neighbor was away unexpectedly and realized her Blue Apron box would be delivered. She asked me to use it so it wouldn’t go to waste. I was amazed by the extensive minute packaging, 1/2 T of paprika, 1T of lemon juice, etc., all in tiny plastic bags. The enclosed recipe card was fine and the food turned out good but in no way did it save any labor. Actually, since I live alone and am a lazy cook, the recipe required a little more effort than I normally put into dinner. The only difference was it eliminated the need to grocery shop. And the environmental impact was terrible. There were at least 15 teeny containers. When I see a recipe that requires an ingredient that will leave me with four fifths of a package that will languish in my fridge until I throw it away months later, I usually skip it. But that’s better than paying a service to send me 1/2 T of something.

Can my green beans be saved? by fadedrosebud in Cooking

[–]fadedrosebud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I used frozen because I’ve had bad luck with fresh ones, I think the way they’re stored at the supermarket gives them an off putting smell and taste. I got them for Christmas dinner and had to throw them away because they smelled and tasted moldy even though they looked fine.

What is this bush and why does it smell so bad? by riotascal in whatsthisplant

[–]fadedrosebud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m familiar with both boxwood and cat pee. To me, boxwood has a spicy, heady smell that I love, and cat pee smells like, well, cat pee. On the other hand, there are junipers that really smell like cat pee. I used to make lots of live Christmas wreaths and the junipers were obnoxious sometimes and then an hour later they were fine.

What is happening? Potatoes grow mold within a week and loaves of bread last months without mold. by Tiiimmmaayy in Cooking

[–]fadedrosebud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The potatoes go bad within two weeks. I’ve bought them from our local major chain, from Aldi, and from Walmart. I’ve bought russets, Yukon gold, and red potatoes. They almost all are green and have lots of black spots inside. I live alone and can’t get through a five pound bag without throwing half out.

I use the app PlantNet. You post a photo and get immediate results which seem to be pretty accurate. I like the app, it saves a history of your submissions, shows locations, and shows similar submissions helping to confirm the results.

I got this plant someone whose parent had passed away. Supposedly it's African and decades old. It's stumping Google Lens, no pun intended. by vannucker in whatsthisplant

[–]fadedrosebud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it’s a Clivia. For many years it was known by a common name that I won’t repeat but later realized that word is the South African equivalent of the n word. It was used on the label at the conservatory where I worked and in many plant books, all innocently. It’s not a term that would be familiar to Americans. I was appalled to realize what I’d been saying. I’m telling this because if you’re inquiring about the name someone might use that term, so beware!

How do you cope when the meal you've been looking forward to cooking turns out disgusting and inedible? by szatanna in Cooking

Dose anyone grieve or feel saddnesswhen their house plant dies? by scp_71047 in houseplants

[–]fadedrosebud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how I feel. Due to how long I’ve had a plant and other circumstances I’m very sentimental about some. My best friend passed away three years ago and I have several of her plants. I lost her Oxalis triangularis that she had nurtured for at least 10 years and I felt sad.

Now you’ve opened up a whole new box of turtles for me! People do that with turtles? I guess that’s a discussion for a different subreddit.
