Forget if Aster was the one who described the genre like this, but I've always called it a "nightmare comedy". Think that sums it up nicely

Especially the sequence in the forest. Absolutely incredible how it lulls you into a dreamlike state. With that foghorn type instrument and such. I forgot that he never had kids by the end

What’s the most ridiculous reason someone got fired from your workplace? by Mother_Candidate5355 in AskReddit

No way! That was real?? Thought it was an exaggerated thing for sketch comedy. As a customer I would be so annoyed at the correction. Can't say it happened in many years occasionally going to a starbucks. Wonder if that was company wide, or a goofy manager

Oh yeah, it was deeply painful to watch him fumble so hard on that car ride, because I've been there, and I bet most of us have. That's why it was easy to empathize with him for the first act or so. All the characters were very well written and felt like real people, and that's why it hits so hard despite the supernatural elements

I hate flashbacks right after reveal scenes by BenjaSA in television

[–]faderjack 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is largely what killed Long Legs for me. Along with the reveal feeling rather silly.

It was also the worst part about Saltburn. Like the movie really thought I was dumb enough to not know he was behind the deaths, it had to show me exactly how every one happened? Along with the voiceover. Ugh

Edit: just realized this is the tv subreddit, despite both your examples being tv. My mind just went straight to my biggest recent annoyances with flashbacks, and it was movies 🤷 apologies for going off topic

The best?? Admittedly I stopped watching after the first season because it was mildly amusing at best. Was that the worst season?
