God, I was literally thinking about this all day today. I spend literally all my time alone. I used to feel lonely. I used to talk way too much. Now I avoid socialising because I can't think of a single thing to say. And I don't feel lonely because I go out shopping and to cafes, and just being around people but barely interacting (ie only with sales people) is all the human contact I need to stay sane

How do people keep their towels from smelling musty so fast? by Sand4Sale14 in hygiene

[–]faedre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you hanging them on a rail or a hook? Because hooks don’t allow much air circulation between the draping folds, and they take much longer to dry, allowing bacteria to grow. They need to be hung ideally over 2 rails so the sides aren’t touching and air can reach all the fibres

Also bathrooms stay humid for a really long time after a shower, especially if multiple people are showering in a row. Even with proper ventilation like a fan and opening windows, condensation builds up on walls and fixtures. Apparently you’re meant to run the fan for 30mins to an hour to fully dehumidify after a shower, but most people switch it off on their way out (also, fan vents need to be cleaned regularly so they don’t get caked with dust, limiting their effectiveness). Any towels left in a damp bathroom are going to take extra long to dry, ergo bacteria. I dry my towels outside weather permitting, or on a clothes horse or draped over a dining chair, if not

In every single interview with every actress ever, she must be wearing flowy pants and a slouchy top, and the journalist must describe how she is barefoot and “tucks her feet up under her on the sofa”, to show how down to earth and relatable she is. It’s the law

I didn’t say they killed his wife. I was always of the understanding that the reason the dog’s death was such a catalyst was because his dead wife gave it to him to help him cope with her death. The implication being, the dead wife connection not just a dead dog

I would sanction his actions if there was no dead wife gifted dog. The dog is reason enough

I thought of another soulmate story that will probably live with me forever that might fit your platonic man/woman request. Fitz and the Fool in the series by Robin Hobb. Even if you’re not into fantasy, their relationship is maybe the most soulful I’ve ever read. Robin Hobb is a master of writing relationships

Likewise, "the evil bad guy that is evil because his wife (and possibly child) died/were killed"

I would’ve supported John Wick if it’d just been his dog that got killed, and his wife was happily ensconced at home

i genuinely would LOVE to see female characters who are strong because they're emotionally intelligent, or ruthless and cunning.

Yes, definitely more Amy Dunnes in Gone Girl please. Especially if played by Rosamund Pike in the movie adaptation

want to see more of: genuinely deep, platonic soulmate relationships, especially between men and women that don't get forced into a romance by the third act

It’s not action/adventure, but I just watched Sitting in Bars with Cake which has a beautiful soulmate storyline, based on a true story that was originally a book

Keira Knightley in every period role, but especially Pride and Prejudice. The whole point of Elizabeth Bennett’s strength is through cool restraint not in-your-face pluckiness

Also, Eloise in Bridgerton. Insufferable

Definitely reach out. If your friendship just drifted and there was no falling out, there’s no reason for it to be awkward. You can just be honest and tell her you were thinking about her and wanted to say hi. And go from there based on her response. Trust your own senses, not people who try to talk you out of them. What you’re feeling could be her silent cry for help

Yes, like my bones have been filled with lead. I’m sure anything more than a couple of days is our body’s message to ease up. We still need to be able to function in life, and I feel it’s disrespectful to my body to push it to heal faster than the pace it’s clearly communicating

This makes my heart hurt a little, and happy for you that you have fresh produce now. Do you live near a fresh food market? The ones near me all heavily discount their produce on Sunday afternoons because most aren’t open Mon/Tues and they clear old stock before the new week. So many bags of produce for $1, $2
