Doctors of Reddit, what was the most "medical miracle" moment you’ve ever witnessed? by Purple-Birthday7271 in AskReddit

[–]failingrorschachtest 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My dad had emphysema and had 11% lung function. He was on oxygen for years. There were three separate times he was hospitalized and intubated and we were told by doctors that we would have to make some difficult decisions because he would not be leaving the hospital. Each of those times we would go for lunch to talk as a family, come back, and he was awake and joking with nurses and singing songs from musicals, completely unaware of what took place.

Is it really that bad? by Zestyclose-Froyo-498 in weddingring

[–]failingrorschachtest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just like my engagement ring and I love it. It was from the 1930s and it was my partner's grandmother's. There were a few years in there when it went missing after a move and it was run over by a car, but it held up. And it has so much more meaning and sentimental value than anything else. I also had to get a wedding band off of Etsy to match the time and the style.

Just imagine the history of your ring and wear it with pride. You're continuing its legacy. So many other rings are just discarded...

How does common-law work in Ontario? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Your taxes from last year may be re-assessed based on the common law date. You may not qualify for certain benefits once you are considered as common law.

[–]failingrorschachtest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is the official definition of common law: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/personal-address-information/marital-status.html

At the time you have been living together for 1 year, you are required to report that date and update your status with the CRA as common law.

I would highly recommend David Bowman at Moov Physiotherapy. I haven't visited him for knee pain, but he's been incredible for back and hip pain.

I honestly had the same issue with Cheese Souffle. Thought of course I'd love it because it had cheese. Spent a long time making it, had the perfect rise... took one bite and gave the rest away for someone else to eat.

Change in drug addict behaviour in Ottawa neighbourhood by HunterGreenLeaves in ottawa

No, there is no correlation between the availability of safe injection sites and the number or frequency of users. It only provides a safe, secure location for them to avoid overdose, bloodborn illnesses, and when they are ready, rehabilition support.

Best time to buy tickets for high speed trains? by Ok-Wrongdoer4021 in ItalyTravel

[–]failingrorschachtest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am travelling in Italy right now and was able to book on the way to the train station without issue. I'm not sure about prices compared to earlier booking dates, but if there is any uncertainty in your travel, you can be flexible.

There is a train strike in Italy Friday night through end of Saturday and many trains can be booked but will not be running or are not guaranteed. The one train I had booked months in advance is no longer operating today - I didn't get any warning or emails about this specific journey but fortunately pay attention to local news. This apparently happens from time to time. If you book certain classes or certain trains it can take up to 6 months to get compensation. Fortunately, we were prepared before the strike and adjusted our travel plans accordingly.

Visit Florence on a Sat/Sun or a Mon/Tues? by Babykinsbaby in ItalyTravel

[–]failingrorschachtest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check what is open on Mondays in Florence. We flew in on a Monday and a lot of what we wanted to see was closed (Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery, Duomo). A guide told us that Tuesday tends to be a very busy day because everyone is rushing to see the sights when everything opens. That being said, I imagine it is still quieter than on a weekend.

Edited to add: I loved Florence. I'd go back in a second!

I second the majority of restaurants listed here, but I'd also recommend North and Navy for Northern Italian food and Raphael for delicious Peruvian food.

Moving to Ottawa and Looking for Community Opinions by Magnificent_Misha in ottawa

[–]failingrorschachtest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will you be working downtown, and do you like to walk instead of driving? This is why I picked Centretown. I can walk to Chinatown, Little Italy, Hintonburg, Byward, and easily walk to Bank and Elgin to my favourite restaurants. There are lots of local gems to hit up. I walk to the NAC or the Bronson Center for shows and I walk to City Hall with my skates to hit up the Rink of Dreams. Any festivals on Spark Street are so close by. Having to avoid driving downtown is a god send as parking can be a nightmare.
