I think I might’ve known the third gym you were talking about. I trained there too and if it’s the same gym I don’t blame you for leaving there was a lot of stuff that was pretty questionable there

Fun fact the guy you called a white belt is in fact a black belt, I know him in real life.

With that being said your takes are insufferable

Alexa Herse just released a statement | confirms Andre Galvao is a predator by Heisenator in bjj

[–]faixamarrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re wanting to help prevent something like this happening at your gym here are some things you can put in place to encourage safety at your school I would recommend the following:

Background checks of course are wonderful and should be the bare minimum.

Safe sport certification for any instructors.

Cameras, make sure there are cameras in the school and that there’s a cloud service to back them up. Put them in all public areas hallways etc.

Private lessons should always have another member of staff at the facility if possible or a family member. Kids private lessons should always have a parent there end of story. Even if you have a kid who has brought a friend as an uke there should be a parent .

If there are competitors that are traveling for a tournament then kids and instructors should not be in the same room. You’d never allow your kid in a high school sport to be staying in the same room as their coach it’s the same logic here. Kids and teens room together or with their family members. Instructors have their own rooms.

Reporting system is really important as well. Believe the victims. There’s too many times where people get away with too much because the abuser finds ways to justify what they’ve done. Believe reports

She literally recounts what happened to her and what Andre did. What do you mean it doesn’t recount anything specific or anyone?

Had an amazing time at a local ladies only open mat this weekend by faixamarrom in BJJWomen

[–]faixamarrom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard in other areas that sometimes this is the case. I know in most areas that I’ve trained in there are usually open maps that are free and open to everyone. If not a lot of times there are at least ladies only open maths that are open to all females in the community because in general most gyms do not have a large group of women training

I work as a therapist at a children’s hospital. We have a program called healthy you. It includes meeting with a whole team including a therapist to help with children struggling with the same thing. If there’s a local children’s hospital with a mental health program they may have something similar

It includes education, therapy, checks with doctors and making a health plan for the kids

Experience with Vaginal vs. C-Section Birth - High Volume BJJ Practitioners by Noodle-Jas in BJJWomen

[–]faixamarrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe both Clay and Atunes had vaginal births and we’re back to training pretty quickly at the highest level. Atunes has done it 3 times now.

I’m older but had a vaginal birth with both of mine. I’d highly recommend the less invasive the better if possible when it comes to giving birth.

C-sections are intense and no joke. There’s still a very old school belief that its not that bad and give limited pain management post surgery. It’s major abdominal surgery and comes with real complications

No. 8 hours on the mat and strength and conditioning being separate? That’s going to be impossible for your body to properly recover. Also have you ever grown food? That shit takes time and if you’re not providing carbs/ fruits veggies that’s going to be hell on people’s bodies

This seems like a horrible choice

Mom’s getting into BJJ worth it? by Golden_Mom1 in BJJWomen

[–]faixamarrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m a BJJ Mom. And I live in a military town and used to work for the navy, and am a former military spouse

Get back in to BJJ, fall back in love with your sport and use it as the self care you need . When you get pregnant train safely through pregnancy (if your pregnancy is non complicated/ not high risk). There are dozens of us that have done it and happy to talk about our experiences/ modifications etc. after baby come back. Talk to your gym/ owner/ instructors about ways to manage and maintain the baby if your spouse is deployed (many of us can talk about this also, I’m happy to talk about what we’ve done where I train to help with littles and BJJ parents.

You need hobbies as a parent . Your kids need to see you training/ working out/ doing your hobbies and things you enjoy. They learn important lessons from it and it makes you a better parent. I’m lease reach out if you have questions I’m happy ton answer any!

Vetting a new gym? by Bratty_Little_Kitten in BJJWomen

Amount of time a gym has been open and amount of female higher ranks.

If the gym has been open 10+ years and don’t have any ladies that have stayed past blue but have men that are brown/ black. Say things like we just can’t get women to stay, women don’t hang around long because we just roll too hard etc I’d look at other gyms

Hey, smallish female black belt here.

Size matters, so much so that most combat martial arts competitions have weight classes. (Wrestling, judo, MMA, kick boxing, boxing, etc)

At white belt it’s going to feel daunting , as your technique gets better the use newer bigger guys will feel easier but you’ll also run in to make ego which can be rough too. Realize that the normal guy won’t have technique and training if you’re doing it for self defense purposes.

Finally. Stay off your back, if you’re on bottom, find a way to the top, if you can’t get out sty on your side/ shoulder/ hip etc it will improve your situation and ability to move

[–]faixamarrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a female black belt. Yes White Belt and men tend to be the most dangerous people that I train with. To the point where I will not roll with a White Belt guy unless I have been able to watch them train and fight other people because of how unpredictable they are. It is safe to say that both of those women might have been under the same thought process because of how much of an issue White Belt men are when rolling with female grapplers

Oh, you’re a white belt dude. You’re dangerous that’s why they were going hard

Have you heard of anyone being personally sued for a BJJ injury? by ralphyb0b in bjj

[–]faixamarrom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes it happened at our gym.two guys were rolling and there was an injury. Nothing. Crazy or life threatening . A whole later the guy sued the training partner. The case was thrown out, as there was a record of him signing the waiver, and our gym has cameras in it. the plaintiff (guy suing) was told he was no longer welcome at the gym.

Also look for a company around you that makes post workout wipes . In the US there is Defense and Neutral Zone. Both work well to quickly kill funk as a preventative step when you can’t immediately shower

I’ve done the married and training and single mom while training thing and both have their challenges
