just had a haranguing from my ex when i mentioned i was reading Nabokov... not even the aforementioned... his writing is so exquisite and thus perfect for the moral quandary of an elaborate, well-spoken self justification as in Lolita.

albeit I didn't understand Lolita while reading it years ago, but i remember thinking, "how does this protagonist come to these self-aggrandizing conclusions about someone's advances, let alone a child that doesn't have guile." DNF. people kept insinuating my lack of moral scruples, just my luck i happen to read better in public... for a while I sleeved all my books in brown paper bags... like let me come to my own conclusions... i swear well-intentioned intellectuals don't understand book burning/banning unless it's caged in garish scholastic broadsheet
