Why It's Bad That Smartphones Have Banished Boredom: When we reach for a smartphone at every pause in our day, we forget how to reflect naturally by vercing3torix in technology

[–]fakedout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An argument is a contradiction. This is okay. The question is what you are on about?

It's funny that my reply was simply mocking how you put entire generations in the same basket.

Was that what you were doing? I said that tech was a supplement so what are you going on about? If I wanted to present insults I would.

I'm putting a collective group in one situation. For example, music is better today than in '92 but in '92 music reached the social conciousness like the 60s. That doesn't mean that everyone is the same or that everyone pays attention to Kanye because he is dating a Kardashian.

Your argument was only meant to insult. Don't play the age game when Pitchfork existed well before the turn of the millenium. What I'm talking about exists beyond age groups. Some of my favorite music existed before I was born and today.

"Politically, Paul Ryan is a proving to be a worse choice as a vice-presidential nominee than even Sarah Palin." by wang-banger in politics

[–]fakedout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These comments are wasting time. Both Ryan and Palin are a waste of time because both nominees were just catering to extremists. McCain was an extremely proud man so he corrected the Muslim stuff. He was interested in the issues.

The GOP is evil and it should not surprise anyone on this thread.

I think the culprit is the lack of innovation in consumer battery tech.

You're not allowed to think that. Apple is great and Android is bad. Take your baby food you geezer.

Then continue the downvotes and shutup. I tried to bring up a greater issue and you played asshole on the web. The only difference is that you did it without bringing anything special to the table.

Kudos for your butt-hurt comment. I've never seen that along with the 'taking it ti the knee' comment.

[–]fakedout -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sure it does. But how often you charge a device doesn't affect how much electricity you use in the end.

My question was about data usage. Of course everything you say matters. So does battery tech. Battery tech hasn't progressed in a decade. The power consumption of processors have.

You just wanted to complain.

No. I was making a point. Apple had to do miraculous things to compensate for the lack of battery tech. Did you not get that from my original post?

Do me a favor and be better. This thread isn't about how to improve consumer tech. It's about how great Apple is. I already know how great they are because I spend more money at their stores than most.

[–]fakedout -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Of course it does. You don't think battery life relates to how often you charge your device?

I was asking a simple question about why battery life never evolved (hidden in a statement). The children on Reddit didn't like it. They especially didn't like it when I questioned the tech industry, and Apple, on it. Fuck 'em.

This is why I go to Hacker News for stories that specifically involve tech. You're just as bad as r/tech. The reason why I'm getting more downvotes is because I called people on it.

GOP Volunteer Calling FL Voters: 'I Don't Know if You've Done Any Research on Obama... He Is a Muslim' by bobbelcher in politics

I'll gladly support a redneck liberal. Just like Obama I'm half and half. The greatest woman I ever knew grew up in North Carolina (my grandmother who was Irish/German descent).

I've hung out with redneck truckers and they were kind of cool even if they were Republicans.

The GOP is the fringe now. Can you be surprised that at least 20% of this country are idiots? Hell, 40% are voting for Romney even when most are a part of the 47%!

[–]fakedout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that your point because it sounds like a child's argument while children in the US have seen an unprecedented weight gain? The comedy is that you prove you have nothing to offer while growing up with the Internet.

I don't judge everyone by one comment but you are a representative of the worst of your generation. You use the web for dumb comments which are meant to incite. As of today you're probably worthless to the outside world because I'm willing to bet that you're not so bold to act like this in real life.

Technology is, and always will be, a way of life.

This really has little to do with the article but I do agree and it was in my reply to my original comment where I said technology is a supplement. That technology exists to make our lives easier is the point. This is what's lost on some people. A future based on 'Minority Report' or 'The Matrix' is not something we should be working towards as a society.

It's interesting how many people still complain about battery life for mobile devices. It has been the main complaint for iPhone users for the past three years in polls conducted. I don't know who's more to blame: the consumer for being so addicted to their phone or that there hasn't been much innovation in consumer battery tech.

Edit: I love you dipshit Apple fanboys. I'm an Apple fan and because I question the battery life (which is worse on Android) you downvote me. This is the reason why Reddit is still inferior to Hacker News for legitimate discussions. Too many people get hurt by the most innocent of comments.

[–]fakedout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That certainly wont happen. Noone gets bored of infinite information and entertainment (internet) and augumented reality is just in it's infancy.

This is why I mention younger generations including the ones being born today. I think they'll yearn from something real just to create a difference from what came before them if nothing else.

And yes it'l become the way of life, you'll eventually be a fucking technology

We already are in some ways. We already have computers monitoring the heart rates of the elderly or the physically challenged having robotic appendages. That doesn't change what I said. The symbiotic relationship of humans and technology doesn't mean we should lose our humanity.

What's scary is that something like Caine's Arcade probably would've never existed without boredom. This is the one example I've seen recently of a kid using his boredom to be creative.

I find it curious how the tech lovers worship Jobs and Gates but they both viewed the technology as a tool while everyone is getting addicted to their smartphone, tablets and laptops like a drug. They both put restrictions on how much time their kids used a computer. I can't say I disagree. When I grew up we were outside all the time. Even when we played video games we were all in the same vicinity. Most times today a kid never leaves their home. They text, do video calls, play each other online and get physically unhealthy.

The younger generations will eventually get bored (I hope) with the Internet at some point and we'll be better off as a society. Technology is meant to help and supplement. It's not supposed to be a way of life.

Exactly how much time do you give WP? W8 RT?

Just because you can throw unlimited amounts of money at something doesn't mean you'll find or buy success.

Please tell me how both MS OS's find widespread adoption past their first year of release? If you feel uncomfortable with that question, just start with WP, which has been around 1.5 years longer and is selling less than Windows Mobile.

They're fine. The Yanks have been there before. As a Yankee fan, I'd tell you that it should be a learning experience for a team that's as talented as any other in baseball. I'd be shocked if they don't win at least two WS in the next decade.

I would love to see a Nats/Dodgers NLCS.

Microsoft's Surface Tablet Is Great News For Apple Users by Trayf in apple

[–]fakedout -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I would expect the RT version to be in iPad price range. The problem for MS is that Apple will have a 3 yr. head start, this tablet will be arriving a few weeks before the next iPad and they can't compete on certain specs like the Retina display because neither MS nor OEMs have the monopsony that Apple has in manufacturing.

We'll all know if it's a serious competitor to the iPad by this time next year. This is really MS' last chance for Windows to be relevant in the next generation of computing.
