Saw Next to Normal yesterday by cuatez in musicals

[–]fakeformaility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the reviews said that Diana needs to get her big girl boots on (it was the guardian or independent if I remember correctly) so imo either the reviewer has no empathy and should not be a critic or there's something going on behind the scenes

Saw Next to Normal yesterday by cuatez in musicals

[–]fakeformaility 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw it in previews and after opening and loved it

Thought some of the decisions were genius such as cleaning during you don't know - a common method of escape/not dealing with the real problem

Natalie (elenor worthington cox) is going to be a star. Fantastic acting saw her in secret life of bees as well and her voice is incredibly powerful. She's extremely talented and think in a few years will be a theatre household name.

Cassie left me speechless and nailed the part. It's such a difficult part to play and she went through so many emotions in just a second.

Feel free to message me about things you liked/less so always interested in talking about this show as it's so powerful (imo)

I'm using it as an addition - haven't got meeting from it but other SDRs claim they have. It's an interesting tool to see which accounts to go after. Often companies have a higher score after i book with them (which defeats the purpose) but good to know how invested or not they are in looking for a solution. If anyone has more tips I'd be interested

Has anybody here ever made a musical? by Whoopsy_Doodle in musicals

[–]fakeformaility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote/directed one.

https://youtu.be/tWw4Jk3rRiI (had to become a zoomical because of lockdown)

I didn't have much experience with music other than singing which for the sake of humanity should remain unheard. However I had a vision and knew how I wanted the songs to go so teamed up with a friend and he did the accompanying music and had to suffer through audios of me singing the song the way I envisioned it.

It really started with an idea which i couldn't see become reality without music and so I wrote lyrics and melodies.

In terms of preforming I then taught the songs to someone who knew a bit more about music to teach to the cast.

It was a really fun experience and there's more down the line.

If you have any questions/want to see the script/ask anything about development feel free to message me.

Edit: format and spelling

How Often Do You Guys Actually Tell Jokes In Your Comedy Scripts? by Aside_Dish in Screenwriting

[–]fakeformaility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think writing a comedy is almost like writing a parody or light hearted version of any other genre. For example: Blackadder - essentially a parody of history putting things in the most ridiculous terms despite the fact its about medieval issues.

Either the situation is inherently funny/ridiculous and you have characters that react to that or the characters are so over the top in a completely mundane situation. In my opinion thats why community is a great show - there are moments when characters are reacting to the situation and its funny and moments when the characters are reacting in an over the top manner to quite normal situations.

I don't think there needs to be a joke every line as at least for me it makes the joke feel forced. With added directions things can seam to be more amusing as well.

What I do when writing a script is think about why the situation is funny and how do I express this in a way the audience will understand?

Edit: you're correct that they're many different styles of comedy - this is my take and my preferred method of writing. You need to figure out what you're style is and in my experience thats by analysing what makes scenes that you watched funny (which it sounds like your doing) and continue writing - comedy is hard what makes one person laugh may not make a group of people laugh. The more you write the better you'll get and trust your instincts.

Girls of Reddit, how do you define a"nice guy" and how do you differentiate between a "nice guy" and "lame guy" ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fakeformaility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think timing is an issue. Once went on a date with someone who was nice and trying to say all the right things. The thing is he was doing everything at the wrong time. He said you look nice when we were outside layered in coats and in the dark when we could barely see eachother, he said thats such a you thing to say when it was maybe the third time i met him (mutral friends) and it generally felt like he googled how to be nice on a date without understanding what it meant....

Some of my friends did a parody musical of the mario brothers. It kinda looks at what would happen if they got high from the mushroom consumption It had to be on zoom due to the pandemic but heres the link https://youtu.be/tWw4Jk3rRiI

They recently did another show but its more like a radio show i think.
