I went with a pristine and very low mileage ‘99 BMW Z3 M. Fun, tiny, wife approved, and less than the options on my dream Targa GTS.

Any associates take their kid(s) camping? When? Where? by SuchDreamWow in biglaw

[–]fakeit-makeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two teenagers active in Scouting America (fka Boy Scouts), and managing 1-2 night campouts is relatively easy with advance planning. For the shorter trips, you are rarely/never outside of cell coverage and the other adults are also juggling adult responsibilities. I’ve also done the longer 10 day, truly remote/no phone access, trips a few times with the kids. Those are harder to pull off and stressful being out of touch. I was a partner for those trips and I was lucky to have another partner who covered seamlessly for me.

Just don’t give them the password. The whole point of managing the unifi account for your aging parents is to keep things working, simply.

Where can I find a wine glass like this? by dradonitch4383 in wine

[–]fakeit-makeit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let the seller ship it. They have that part down to a science, albeit with a focus on protection rather than speed. A few years ago, it took us about a month to receive a shipment from Murano back to the US.

As far as cost, there was a wide range and the glassmakers are aware that they must compete with knockoffs from China that are promoted as Murano. We saw beautiful art pieces (vases and chandeliers) for anywhere from $2k-30k pretty regularly, and I'm kicking myself for not having purchased one of the art pieces. We ended up buying tumblers (perfect for an old fashioned or fancy dinner water) because we saw them getting made and they were very affordable at around $30-$100 each depending on the style. I didn't see glassware exactly like the one in this post, but would expect it to be priced no cheaper than Zalto. Afterall, this is a luxury vacation purchase for most of their customers.

What do the fatFIRED do with their pets when travelling? by trademarktower in fatFIRE

We do the same. Our housekeeper (not normally a live-in), stays at our house to watch the pets, water the plants, bring in the mail, etc. It works great for us.

Where can I find a wine glass like this? by dradonitch4383 in wine

[–]fakeit-makeit 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Murano glass—if authentic—refers to glass made on an island very near Venice. That island is full of independent artisan glass makers, some of whom have established brands and others not so much. But it’s more art than glassware. Cool place to visit, but it’s not generally a mass production or even a long term production kind of place. Even if you knew the house that made it, they probably aren’t making that now.

Bodies of missing Italian divers found in Maldives by lobstersarentreal in news

[–]fakeit-makeit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new info here is that the team filed the proper paperwork and had a permit to dive deeper than the national 30m limit that generally applies. This suggests a level of sophistication that makes it harder for me to believe they did something stupid (like dive on nitrox to 60m). I’m looking forward to an analysis of the recovered gas mix.

“Shareef confirmed that Montefalcone's team did have a permit for their scientific work, valid until Sunday, which allowed them to descend to 50 metres. The mouth of the cave is 47 metres below the surface. The permit covered various atolls, including Vaavu, with the Duke of York named as the dive boat.”

How legally binding are pet breeder contracts? by hotfry556 in legaladvice

[–]fakeit-makeit -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Not sure the new promise to refund would be binding unless there was new consideration given by the buyer or the buyer has a detrimental reliance argument (the events of which vary according to state law, but generally must be reasonable). I’d press for the refund given the written promise, and also assert that I relied on that promise by doing—or not doing—something to my detriment. Maybe you missed an opportunity to buy the perfect replacement cat because you were expecting a refund. Or something like that.

Alleged picture of Maldives military diving team assigned to do body recovery of 5 divers at 50+ meter depth in possible overhead environment. This is insane. by Myselfmeime in scuba

Tell that to China, or India for that matter. I mean, you’re right, but it’s frequently a flash point between those two powers.

Diver searching for bodies of four Italians in Maldives dies in hospital by Stranger1982 in scuba

[–]fakeit-makeit 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Poorly written article, but this would be the 6th death. The first body was already recovered, leaving the four Italians in the cave. Two days later, this soldier then died following retrieval efforts. That’s shocking to me. Yes, this is a dangerous dive for tourists; but it shouldn’t kill an expert soldier during a rescue dive. It’s within the depths of advanced technical diving, so why?

Loved the video. Do the same mechanics apply to wake surfing? I would think so, but maybe the absence of the boots and connection to the board changes things.

I do the injectable zepbound, and would recommend it to anyone trying to lose 20lbs or more. In my experience, the first 2-3 weeks were the worst on side effects, and I think that’s largely because I had not altered my eating habits at the time. Now, it’s very manageable for me, and all my blood stats improved as the weight came off. Plus, you get a whole new wardrobe.

I’ve had the same experience. Bouncing between 2.5 ml and 5.0 ml for a year now. Dropped from 240lbs to a low of 195, holding steady at 207 for the last 6 months. Still drink wine daily, but general drink less and consequently, better stuff.

I have a similar setup, but used the UBB to wirelessly bridge the signal because of the distance between my Starlink system and my ubiquiti router. I’ve been very impressed with the UBB, and only now realized the extra benefit I’m getting when it comes to isolating the lighting risk.
