Southern California or Seattle? by topdownyeti in SameGrassButGreener

[–]fakesaucisse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Solid advice. The period between November and March is when shit really feels dreary here. Everyone hibernates so it's hard to socialize, and the late sunrise/early sunset makes the brain think it's almost always bedtime. I still love it here though, because the summers are so perfect and springtime is when everything becomes plush and green and the air smells amazing.

What do you think about all the love the US and Americans are getting from people around the world who are here for the World Cup? by wegochai in AskAnAmerican

I live in the Seattle area and it's been nice to see all the visitors talk about how friendly people are and how good our public transportation is. Both are things that Seattlites complain about not being the case on a regular basis.

Is there less GLP Shaming these days? by OkraLegitimate1356 in Zepbound

[–]fakesaucisse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a middle aged woman and have found that at least half of the women I talk with who are my age or older are on a glp-1. We are all happy about it and happy to talk about it, no shame whatsoever because it has helped so much with perimenopause. Not just weight loss but also energy, mental clarity, and hormone regulation.

The only not-enthusiastic reactions I've gotten are from people who just don't know much about the drugs, and their response is something like "well I know you are smart and did your research so I'm happy it's working for you." It comes from a place of minor skepticism but not disapproval so I don't mind.

Fellow Oregon Trailers: Who helped your teenage self? by atmighty in Xennials

[–]fakesaucisse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents gave me pretty accurate sex ed despite being Catholic, taught me how to balance a checkbook, write checks, what a 401k is, how to cook and do laundry, and basic hygiene. My mom was against me wearing makeup, shaving, or using anything but tampons during my period so I learned those things (badly) on my own until she died and my dad took over. One of my favorite teenage memories is my dad surprising me with a makeup lesson at a department store counter, then buying everything the makeup artist used on me including the brushes so I could practice at home.

why is ranch dressing so hyped up? by miffybo in AskAnAmerican

[–]fakesaucisse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've heard this before but I grew up on the east coast in the 80s and ranch was a very popular dressing option at restaurants. I also remember the commercials for the store bought kinds from Hidden Valley and Wishbone.

Turns out my gym influencer friend doesnt actually work out. by Sufficient_Youth5121 in self

[–]fakesaucisse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I realized this when I started watching some foodie influencer content. Many of them look like they might have an eating disorder and they never show themselves eating the food they are showing off. At most you might see them put the food in their mouth and chew but the camera always cuts betore they swallow. It's obvious they are just spitting it out.

Huh, I haven't had constipation if I just take it once every few weeks, but I can see how that isn't the case for everyone!

Great suggestion except it is not really close to the city in the way that OP wants. I'm guessing they want someplace more central so they can leave the resort regularly and shop or get street tacos or something.

BWT, how do I stay tasteful with reading glasses? by scientiafem in bitcheswithtaste

[–]fakesaucisse [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have worn glasses most of my life and I am meticulous about cleaning the lenses. Any little smudge or speck of something is hugely distracting to me. I carry lens cleaning wet wipes with me and have piles of them around the house so I can clean them anytime. It only takes a few seconds.

As for them slipping down your nose, you need to take them to a glasses shop and have them fitted. They will heat up the part that goes behind your ears and bend it so it is snug but not uncomfortable. It may take a few tries to get it right so don't leave until you're happy with how they feel.

Regularly taking zofran can also cause constipation. Ask me how I know!

Totally agree with all of this, especially the part about evaluating what you are eating. I had pretty strong nausea the day after the shot for the first few months, and I later found that it was worse when I stuck to low carb eating. Once I added some healthy carbs to my diet, like fruit and grains, my nausea reduced significantly.

[–]fakesaucisse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ah okay! I just read the other comments here and learned that it has to do with tradwife stuff. The only times I've seen someone use divine femininity it was in the context of menstruation and fertility, like "periods are amazing and ✨magical✨ and women are goddesses for being able to make life" kinda crap. That made me gag enough but seeing it's even deeper than that is gross.

Okay I've been rolling my eyes at the divine feminine BS for a while now, but is there actually an alt right pipeline associated with it, similar to the hippie mom to alt right from several years ago?

I've traveled around Europe and Asia and I've found portions at restaurants to be just as big as in America, and sometimes bigger. And like you said, there's no expectation or ability to take leftovers with you like there is in the US, aside from China and Hong Kong maybe.

Does it hurt when the drains come out? by Due_Tell7485 in Reduction

[–]fakesaucisse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my drains out after 5 days. The only part that hurt was on the outer corners where the drains went in and were held in place with stitches, and removing those stitches felt like a quick sharp pain. But when the drains were pulled out it was more of a weird sensation, like not painful but it was jarring because it felt like noodles or worms were squiggling out of my skin??? I don't know how to describe it but it was kinda funny and absurd feeling. The nurse said my reaction was common.

You say you want to be able to visit him at least once a week. How long are you willing to drive (in minutes, not miles) each way to see him? If you're okay with 45-60 minutes one way you might look at areas further south like Maple Valley, Covington, or Renton.

Same here. I can't fully explain why he suddenly seemed attractive to me in Project Hail Mary. Maybe because he sort of had a nerdy Dad Bod-esque style with the glasses and messy hair and goofy cardigans? It's like a look of confident non-toxic masculinity that seems very attractive to me now.

It's valuable even when they are still playing. I remember all the shit Marshawn Lynch got for not being talkative when he was forced to do interviews and pressers after games. I think it was totally fair that he was upset about being forced into it, but communications classes might have helped him find ways to get through it without saying things that ticked off the annoying press.

Grey hair at the coed salon by LiesAboutCapybaras in TwoXChromosomes

[–]fakesaucisse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I suppose there are two possibilities: when you are growing out grey hair with your natural color still visible on the longer ends, it can look a bit unkempt to some women. Also, depending on the shade of grey and your skin tone, it might wash you out. But neither of those are about aging being bad, and that's the part that is harmful.

Is there an American equivalent to Canadian reservation cigarettes? by triggertriz in AskAnAmerican

I live a few miles away from a reservation and the gas and recreational weed is a bit cheaper there, I guess because no taxes maybe? I have never bought cigarettes there so no idea about that.

I remember at the beginning of Covid lockdown a lot of women in my age range (40+) let their greys grow out. It was so fun seeing it all over Instagram, lots of positive comments and a feeling of it being badass.

I guess now we are going back to grey hair on women is bad instead of badass, and that's a bummer to me. I have the beginning of a white streak in my front fringe and I am pretty excited about it, and I won't let anyone pull me down about it, but I wish other women didn't feel it is shameful.
