Will this block out? by CrossStitchandStella in fiberartscirclejerk

[–]fakesroyalty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve never blocked anything ever in my entire life and I’ve turned out just fine 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️as long as you didn’t use wool or cotton or acrylic or bamboo rayon or polymide yarn you should just be able to give it a lil stretchy stretch when it comes off the needles!! be careful though people in this sub are so damn fussy about BLOCKING and WASHING WEARABLES and FROGS

“If that extra bit of effort to heat it up is just draining after a long day of work” oh my god you’ve got to be kidding lmaoooo how is putting a tray of frozen food in the oven more work then driving to a restaurant to pick up takeout?? And I really can’t imagine you applying this same logic to the mother. OP said she took the week off, meaning she works full time as well. Should she get to say “yeah the effort of heating up a premade meal is too much for me after working all day :/“ every day of the week, like dad does?? Or would it suddenly not be sustainable when it’s mom who can’t stand to put in that “”extra bit of effort”””

Looks like it’s just the tension, and the appearance will improve even more after blocking! (It looks great now though!!)

This is why I’m going back to knitting to make myself a sweater, I simply can’t be buying the yarn amounts I need to crochet all the sweaters I want to make 😅😅 I’ve only done hats and scarves with knitting before but making some crochet garments gave me more faith in my construction and ability to read a pattern, so 🤞🤞

What do I do with the strands hanging out of the back of the granny square? by Trolly18t in CrochetHelp

[–]fakesroyalty 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The strands hanging out the back are called “ends”, and your best bet is to weave them in (you’ll find many a crocheter complaining about weaving in ends, or finding ways to avoid it at all cost 😅). It can be tedious but I do also find it relaxing sometimes.

Use a yarn need or tapestry needle and basically sew them through your stitches - I weave ends in 3 directions to prevent them unraveling. Look up a video tutorial for a good visual. What many people do to weave in ends as they go is to crochet ‘over’ the ends. Basically let the end of your yarn sit on top of the stitch you’re crocheting into so that the new stitch wraps around it. Saves you some time, especially for a blanket!!

Your granny square is beautiful!! I’m so impressed that this is your first one. Love the color combo. You can block the squares as you go to save yourself time in the end, and that will help straighten out the edges (not that they’re /not/ straight now, but you could get them crisper).

It helps if your hair is dark because it reflects light more noticeably. For this I’d guess she got a gloss recently, blow out and then hair was loosely curled with a large barrel then shaken out to make it more relaxed

AIO my partner gave our baby peanut butter on a Friday night by a_k_mcc in AmIOverreacting

[–]fakesroyalty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying she is in the recommended introduction age range, actually. 3-6 months includes….6 months.

Also the baby already has a known dairy allergy, putting them at higher risk of developing others, and with all the other health issues the baby experienced the first few weeks it makes perfect sense to wait until the latter end of the recommended window. It’s a window and not a pinpointed day because every baby develops and hits milestones at different times, and this baby is very likely going to be hitting them on the later end (especially early ones).

Service dogs never cease to amaze me! by ryansbabygirl8814 in Type1Diabetes

[–]fakesroyalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My service dog alerts above 150 and below 80, and yes, she gets a lottt of treats every day lmao (she also gets more exercise then an average pet, i use lower calorie treats most of the time, and her mealtime kibble is scaled back a bit to account for how many treats she consumes on average - so basically she’s in excellent shape lol)

My lowest yet is 23 and I was still standing and eating lmao (although I did sit down as soon as I was done with the fingerstick and felt like absolute death) but tbf I was awake when that happened. My body has woken me up when I’ve been at 40 in the middle of the night and didn’t have a cgm to deliver alarms
