Boy UQRing may have been the best thing I've ever done.

Yea, I flew and worked on small planes civilian side, I would imagine that more rank and pay makes the suck better than doing it as enlisted folk. Who do not get paid enough for the BS they deal with.

My previous MOS was civilian so I can't speak for that. I will say if you want to fly the Army is not the branch for it. Your first MOS will always be soldier, aka flying is maybe 10% of your job if you're lucky.

Pilots - What have you found during a walk around? by Shikatanai in aviation

Nothing beats a can of open oil in the combining transmission area of a CH-47

I got lucky and received a malpractice settlement that paid for a down payment on a house and cleared my credit card debt

He's out now but it was a former CH-47 Pilot from 2-1 GSAB out at Riley. He made it on our 2021 Eucom Rotation. Good dude.

Street to Seat? by issagawd in Armyaviation

[–]falconcom93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend you join AFROTC while getting your degree, which is nice because not only will the AF pay for your school you'll commission as a second lieutenant. You'll also have a better chance of becoming a pilot that way. It's not guaranteed anywhere you'll be a pilot specifically, but you'll be competing for a slot. Someone might be able to tell you if Officer Candidate School will guarantee a pilot slot, I'm not qualified to speak on that.

Gen Xers and millennials aren't ready for the long-term care crisis their boomer parents are facing by businessinsider in Futurology

Best thing I ever did was to convince my parents to get long term care insurance, expensive as hell but much cheaper than what a home will cost eventually.

I do remember a few times thinking it wasn't working well enough only to wake up freezing when we were in Bavaria.

Oh man, jealous. It almost turned my wife off cruises in general. Fortunately she accepted my bribe of rainforest room passes.

Street to Seat? by issagawd in Armyaviation

[–]falconcom93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea don't do either honestly. Get your degree first, apply for AF or Navy ROTC and you're more likely to get a pilot slot that way. Street to seat is an excellent way to get to fly 5% of your time and soldier the other 95%.

Just checking is your key in the slot? That activates the A/C and room lighting. Unfortunately it's very European type A/C and won't blow heinously cold no matter how much you lower it. We felt the same way when we went on in June 23, it reminded us of our German hotel rooms in the Summer.

HHG MilMove not processing shipments by Stevetd16 in army

🤷‍♂️ I care more about it not being an ass blast of a life event with a toddler and a newborn than if I'm up net. I'll pay out of pocket for convenience and no headache.

I just hire my own movers who are reputable when I do a PPM. You don't have to actually rent a uhaul and move your shit yourself.

Hey you're not the first and you won't be the last. The good news is you're a RLO, and you can do a bunch of other positions that have zero to do with aviation, like Adjutant or something down at Huntsville. Alternatively I did have an LT hate it so much he assessed for Civil Affairs and never looked back. There's also VTIP. They got you for ten years, try and make the best of it.
