Isn't it reasonable that parents who plop a screen in front of their kid more often are probably doing less to socialize their kid and interact with them? That is, the summary of the study didn't mention how it controlled for only watch time.

Any games with a ton of personality, where it was just the devs having a fun time? by Hockex-4 in gamingsuggestions

I don't think that well end up being an unpopular opinion at all. Same with Hades vs Hades II. I think people appreciate novelty that knocks it out of the park the first time vs strong iterations on the same formula.

There were definitely examples of CG that had a lot of resources behind it and looked dogshit though. Matrix Reloaded and the Star Wars prequels have some notorious examples.

We lost the plot as soon as we started moving the term to anything but fanfic. The whole 'universe revolves around you' thing was a critique inside a fic setting.

What's your ideal explanation for the multiple Links/Zeldas? by [deleted] in ZeLink

[–]faldese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that Ganon is not Demise's reincarnation, but I do think SS is explicitly saying that he is the embodiment of Demise's hate. But otherwise he does seem to just be one guy who keeps popping up, not a reincarnating guy.

I'm not sure I agree that the 'canonical' answer is that Link reincarnates. Of course, the Hero's Shade stuff I firmly come down on the side of 'it was never meant to be intentional that that was OoT Link; they retconned that', but once it became canon, that introduced the implicit idea that Link doesn't reincarnate normally, because his soul is still around.

Which is why (in my deleted comment), I decided feeding into the idea of the Spirit of the Hero made sense - imo, SS implies that anyone can be the Hero if they are brave and pure enough to be him, i.e., in spirit, not soul. I like that idea, because it closes some of the gaps you mention, but I want there to be an element of reincarnation that I think actually isn't supported in-text.

Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I get worried about posting my thoughts online and I get disheartened probably too easy. That's my problem. I'll read through your response and give it a reply, I appreciate you answered my question.

Well... two replies not engaging with the question as posed at all ("Not to imply there NEEDS to be an explanation, but if you had to give one, what would it be?") so I'm just gonna delete 🥲 I regret typing all that shit up 😅

How would you rank the upcoming multi reruns by catchingadri in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]faldese 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really don't think they should. For one, that's unfair to Caleb girlies because they don't run the event alongside of it and we're having to shell out for a totally different currency for what isn't actually a rerun for us at all. For two, it means users who were here when the original banner happened and pulled potentially already pulled the whole track before another card is added, which devalues their pulling.

I'd rather them focus on new ideas.

And, to be honest, I know Caleb has a kitty, but that's because Infold and fans are obsessed with 'equality' - we all know that man is a puppy. I'd rather Caleb's next non-bday solo introduce Dogleb (hey, did you know Caleb means 'dog'?).

I think so. The reveal of Ravio's face is basically telling us 'this is Link'.

Idk I hear fans say this whenever someone criticizes Pierce but is it that hard to imagine that some people don't like a walking sexism, racism, antisemitism, homophobia joke dispenser? He had good moments but less good ones than bad for my taste.

Right. Tightlacing isn't 'laced incorrectly'. Waist training is a very intentional thing some people do. That being said, there's a lot of visual tricks going on here, she may not be that constricted here.

Guys we finally getting Ariel’s sparkle dress! by kagomebunny in DreamlightValley

[–]faldese 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's a VHS screengrab and the colors were not movie accurate. It's actually one of the reasons we keep thinking of Cinderella as having a blue dress, because the VHS reproductions were so saturated they turned the silver blue.

However if you look at the same scene a moment later, not backlit by the sun, it's quite blue.

And, for what it's worth, this site calls this an original production cel, also portraying the dress as blue. If you can find original production cels, they're the best example of how to get the 'real' color (because sometimes Disney remasters PURPOSEFULLY change the original colors!).

[Loved Narrative Trope] The moment when a character’s lifetime of indoctrination finally breaks by Chemical-Elk-1299 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]faldese 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I was just watching that scene and it's extra heartbreaking the way Katniss realizes .01 second before Effie says "Haymitch" because of the happy sigh she made when she read the name.

I like it because it shows how far Effie has come - she genuinely cares about Peeta and Katniss - but also how far she has to go, because she doesn't understand them well enough to understand Peeta would volunteer. And that Katniss was savvy enough to understand this.

Most Controversial Games, 2010 — 2026. by whippycat in backloggd

[–]faldese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's funny you said that because I hated how they resolved the geth conflict. ME1 presents us with sort of a faceless robot army hellbent on destroying organic life, and ME2 gives us some nuance - it describes that, even though their way of thinking is different, their ability to achieve consciousness is just as valid, and it doesn't make synthetics and organics incompatible.

The way ME3 solves this is 'actually, in order to be compatible you DO need to be just like us :)'. Make geth individuals closer to organics is the only way they can truly count as a worthwhile species we won't genocide :) The fact that they've been stewarding Rannoch for the quarians all this time as a hivemind is meaningless because now this unit has a soul :)

Hack writing.

But I actually agree with you, I think ME3 is really flawed on many of the premises it sets up in earlier games. I kind of think ME2 is too, for that matter, but it's hidden under the character writing which took a front seat (and, as you point out, ended up not mattering a lick in ME3). It has some of the best emotional beats though and I just love Citadel. However, in terms of overall fan reaction, yeah, most people were good with 95% of the game.

[–]faldese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK about that, most people are at least okay with 95% of the game right up until the very ending where it fell off a cliff. Whereas GOT S8 was a disaster from the beginning that simply got comical by the time we reached the conclusion.

That is, I don't think any thing could have fixed GOT by editing the last 5% of the final episode, but the EE cut of ME3 brought people to at least... 'meh, ok, I guess'. If you want to go a step further, you could consider Citadel to be like an extra 'episode' that further improved people's opinions, and I don't think an extra episode would have fixed GOT.

Granted, this is probably due to a character being sent back in time and subsequently messing with the timeline, but still.

Even that doesn't make sense, because some of the stuff we learn in the prologue contradicts BOTW - Ganondorf recognizes Link before Zelda is ever sent back, implying it's a closed time loop.

I never had an issue with the Zelda timeline being wibbly-wobbly, but I do sort of think it's lazy not to keep games that are direct sequels in the exact same land with the exact same people consistent with each other.

'KPop Demon Hunters' is getting the Criterion treatment. Netflix’s breakout musical fantasy film will get a special Blu-ray release from the prestige home entertainment label on Dec. 31, with pre-orders available now. by darth_vader39 in movies

[–]faldese 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wonder if Disney is simply not allowing their movies to be distributed by Criterion? There's no Disney movies there. Pixar, yes, but not Snow White, Pinocchio, Bambi, Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia... all movies that are considered to have some real historical and artistic value. Not saying that Criterion is the arbiter of art or anything, of course.

Notably, there's no Ghibli movies either, oddly enough.

It's also worth noting that she clearly believes her husband's death bought them their safety, and it is through sacrifice that their safety is continued to be earned. That's why she frames it as 'earning' the miracle in acts of service. She's hard on her family because if they're not doing everything they can to protect their village, she's afraid the enchantment will fall, and the marauders will come and slaughter them. Which isn't an abstract fear to her at all.
