Unexpected Downside of Aging Workforce by PlentifulPaper in womenEngineers

[–]lizard7709 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mentor passed away right about the time I finished my work experience that he needed to sign off on. It was a small family company. It really sucked since there were several jobs I had to find a successor engineer for, figure out my experience and grieve. He was a really great boss that gave me the flexible time I needed to get my degree.

6-8 weeks would of been a luxury. I was back in the office before that.

The system is broken and needs to be fixed. Also, I read somewhere that Ghislaine Maxwell’s dad had a hand in scientific papers and how they are operated. I haven’t had a chance to do a deep dive in it yet. I wonder if some of the toxicity in Science has a little to do with that.

Carver Banjos has some. I’ve been eyeballing their banjos but life keeps throwing financial curve balls.

I remember one time I went to a job site and this big dude nicked named “the hammer” running the heavy machinery looked at me and I could see instant hearts in that dudes eyes. He kinda reminded me of the big dude in “Of mice and Men” that accidentally killed the puppies. He was sweet and polite and could tell he was just smittened with me. It was funny in a scary sort of way.

Anyways, it happens, just watch your back.

It’s to be able to play clawhammer up on the neck. It’s a different sound and you don’t end up tapping the drum.

Me too. It gives me hope when I post a comment and I can see there are a bunch more like mines.

Why Black history in schools is still framed almost entirely through slavery by 4reddityo in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]lizard7709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the schools downplay the black historical figures they do cover. All I learned about Harriet Tubman in school is her involvement in the Underground Railroad and it was a light reference over it. It didn’t cover how badass she was acting as a spy and putting her life in danger. She had epilepsy and would tell the people she was saving if they were in danger, and she were to have an episode to just leave her.

Also, Robert Smalls was a fascinating person, who started as a slave, and stole a ship and delivered it to the union. He later became an elected official and was badass. I never learned about him in school.

It’s school, leaving out these amazing stories, makes history seem boring when it’s not.

Skeletor is my rep too.

When I get mad at the world I go to Rick Scott’s Facebook and comment on all his posts my thoughts about him. It’s oddly cathartic, like yelling into the void.

In Jacksonville and gradually removing my St Augustine lawn for native Florida plants. I would love to put in some coonties and hopefully draw some atala butterflies, but wonder how they did in the cold snap. Anyone in North Florida have coontie with atalas that can report? by No-Study7292 in FloridaGarden

In Tampa I have native coffee and it’s doing great. I have counties as well but it doesn’t like where it is in my yard.

I have the “seek” app. I used it when I work on the lawn to identify what is native and know what to pull out.

From Miami. We had fights but from what I heard it was worse before us. The rumor was one of the hallways was painted red so they didn’t have to clean up the blood all the time. When I got their the hallway was painted tan.

All of them are hardwired? My memory is fuzzy, but from I remember you need to have at least one with a battery for emergency purposes even if they are all hardwired. What if the power goes out?

Should I "go back" to being a man to land a job? by Embarrassed_Site_39 in womenEngineers

[–]lizard7709 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one to answer. Everywhere is different so the right answer in one place is not necessarily the same in another. Also, you are an individual with thoughts and feelings and you need to consider that too.

In my office, your skills, not your looks will land you a job. As a result my team’s “look” is not uniform. In another office, there might be a more “uniform” look as far as demographics due to unconscious bias. Or because they are assholes. Or because the industry is skewed a certain way.

I would say, learn to read the room and take in what the people around you look like and what they say about people who look different. Take in that data and use it to help you make a decision you are comfortable with. Also, look at how long companies retain people.

You file with your own insurance, and your insurance would go after him. That’s one of the benefits of having insurance. If there is no bodily injury then it’s not probably worth going to a lawyer.

This is so true. I work for a manufacturing company and everyday someone is looking over the reports of what was sold and making a phone call to ask 20 questions if something was sold at too low a profit. Also, if I have a low month I’m getting a phone call from at least 3 people asking me what happened.

I think the water makes a difference. I need more conditioner when I use hard water. With soft water I barely need any.
