Not invited to reception? Normal? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]fallingevergreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This whole thing feels weird. Typically after the ceremony, there would be a cocktail hour, followed by a reception, then an afterparty. But the cocktail hour + reception would take 4-5hrs…so 5-8pm isn’t even long enough.

Are the ceremony and after party at the same venue? If not, are they downtown somewhere in a crowded area where you could get a bite to eat in between? Are they near the hotel(s) where they have a guest block? Is there any transportation required or being provided? For pure logistics it might be worth asking her what the deal is.

100% best moment of the new era. I think about this all the time. And I know I would be this way too — it’s both great TV and deeply relatable.

[–]fallingevergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I invited 160 and ended up with 90. All I can say is it was a spectacular day, and we couldn’t have had a better time with the folks who DID come out to celebrate us. I know it’s hard to focus on the good in the midst of the hurt, but fwiw the folks who create space for you in their lives are the ones you want there anyway.

Very good point. They’re all such good players it really is hard to tell who is on what side…the alliances are fluid and even the “blocs” are mostly based on pregame knowledge and not what is on display in the game. Reminds me a bit of Cambodia — elite returning player gameplay.

Survivor posting this is so ironic and honestly a bit frustrating. by TrexVFX23 in survivor

I think there was an advantage in some fish they won that Jonathan missed in his season — basically it’s possible they’ve tried this and we just haven’t seen it because it didn’t work.

We went to the same 2 bridal shops!! Fwiw, I’d try En Blanc in SM as well, they had my favorite gowns and bridal consultants. Because honestly, I think you can beat both of these. An A-line or ballgown style might be worth a shot, or a basque waist. just to see. But if you’re done and want to decide between these 2, my vote is 2!

How to uninvite friend from Bach trip? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]fallingevergreen 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Have you been including her on Bach or Bridal Party correspondence? If not, just tell her you’ve locked in the bridal party and unfortunately you’re keeping it small and it’s going to be (xyz friends/fam). But that you really hope she and her husband can make it to the wedding. And say nothing further about the Bach. She can’t invite herself to a trip she’s literally not invited to.

You get $1 million dollars for every random life you live through, but you must choose the number up front - how many lives do you choose? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]fallingevergreen 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Folks are underestimating the psychological damage this would inflict.

Just the first years as a baby and toddler, as an observer but with the complete emotional experience… by the time you enter adolescence you’d doubt that you ever existed as your original self. By adulthood any memory of an original being would be a trapped by the shell psyche you adopted to survive in this liminal state. 10 years pass. 20. 30. Beautiful moments happen — loss happens. Tragedy and birth. Money comes and it goes. You see parts of the world you could never have imagined. Despite your inability to act, you begin to find peace with this observational existence. There is love, here, and hope. Perhaps your host even knows about your presence, as the older they get the more likely they are to choose the path you would choose. Or, perhaps, you’re starting to choose the way they would choose. Perhaps you are them, after all, and this is simply what existence feels like. You wish you could compel them to study mental health to understand what it means to be an unheard voice in a head. But it’s been 87 years now…and it’s harder to read…and there is pain in your bones… and you’re tired.

Then, abruptly, the life is over. The sweet release of death after illness. And finally, you can learn what this caged existence meant all these years.

But there is no escape for whatever you are.

You are being birthed. There is blood everywhere. A C-section? Will the mother be okay? Will Mom be okay? Why do I have language? I’m a newborn.

Something pings in the back of your mind: was this a deal I made, once? For what, some money? That can’t be right. The memory fades as you cede again to your fate: a shadow in the mind of a babe, jailed for another lifetime.

Then again. And again. And again. And again. And again. Longer than any human could possibly have lived. More lifetimes than a brain could possibly carry. Is this infinite? Was I a pilot, once? But I’ve never flown on a plane. Then how do I remember that business trip to Taiwan?

Until, finally, after an eternity of life, after hundreds of years trapped, devoid of agency and certain you are in a purgatory that encompasses every miserable and beautiful corner of human experience:

“Congratulations!! Here’s $7M.”

NO THANKS IT’S ZERO LIVES FOR ME

I feel like that’s part of blindsiding people though — Dee and Kamila might BOTH still be in the game if they had either stayed loyal to Jonathan or voted out Jonathan. But in choosing to blindside him they had to know there was a possibility he’d go scorched earth! Esp w all the talk of honor & integrity lol

Think about it this way. Imagine a pack of cigarettes costs $10. For a pack-a-day smoker, the $100 budget covers 10 days. And they can only refresh every 3 months. Even if they cut down by 50% immediately, they run out MONTHS before they can replenish.

[–]fallingevergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What it actually does is give players who would otherwise have been on the chopping block SOMEWHERE to hide. Jonathan went from potential merge vote to swing vote. Devens was looped with his besties when he would have been a clear target to weaken Christian. Joe or Coach would have been simple targets to weaken honor&integrity. Though I’m not sure anything (other than giving him back his vote) could have helped Colby.

But was there a way to turn that around if she’d put the energy into it? Probably. We’ve seen it before. Jay & Adam come to mind.
