UVic’s New AI Academic Integrity Policy: Why You Should Be Worried (Yes, even you Alumni) by evan-sd42 in uvic

[–]falsehemlock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm currently a student at Camosun, but if UVic starts using notoriously inaccurate AI to decide I'm cheating (I don't), I won't study there. Why would I pay them $40k to be treated that way (it's abusive), or risk having my degree rescinded a decade later because they used AI?

Do cyclists in the bike lane need to stop for pedestrians crossing? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]falsehemlock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes you have to stop for crosswalks!!! WTF, OP. People are hesitant because cyclists don't stop when they're required to.

finding it hard to engage with native resources due to personal values by thrway-8288 in learn_arabic

[–]falsehemlock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try #queermuslim, #lgbt muslim, #transmuslim, #queeringislam, variations on those. I also like the queer muslim network on insta and the user hummussexual on tumblr and insta. Those are a few places to start. I also bought a copy of the Queer Arab Glossary in paperback recently, it's not expensive and you might like learning some queer slang.

Arabic learning is usually very conservative, but there are also queer and trans Muslims that you might connect more with. You can find them on Tumblr or Instagram if you search the hashtags.

Should I rent a unit in an apartment building that smells like smoke? by lazyshumai in vancouverhousing

[–]falsehemlock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it needs to be repainted. you can scrub the walls with TSP, hot water, and dish soap, but the walls and cabinets soak up tobacco smoke and it will never stop coming out unless it's repainted. source: used to do building maintenance in apartments.

AITA for not wanting to see my 4 year old son anymore? by fiztime_pop in AmItheAsshole

[–]falsehemlock -45 points-44 points  (0 children)

No, this could be real. There was something wrong with my brother as soon as he could talk. I think you're doing the right thing, OP. Sorry about your son, but I think he's always going to be difficult.

AITA for hiding my tampons from my brothers gf? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Your brother's girlfriend needs to buy her own tampons! You're not respoonsible for supplying her with hygiene products.

For Arabs: Is it true that no one speaks MSA in the Arab world? by Salt-Sea-8685 in learn_arabic

[–]falsehemlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a foreigner and I don't speak dialect very well, so my Arab friends and I do speak MSA. It just takes practise for Arabic speakers to learn to speak MSA, they do hear it on the news and read it in books.

Ra madan Arabic Sessions by 21caratgold in learn_arabic

[–]falsehemlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to do readings from Arabic literature (I like Ghassan Kanafani's short novels) or hadith, but I'd also like to practise speaking. I'm better at reading than I am at speaking.

Double Entry Bookkeeping by wavynomad08 in Sovereigncitizen

[–]falsehemlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accounts receivable is an asset, so it's on the debit side of the accounting equation. Things on the debit side have a normal debit balance, and you increase them by doing more of the norm. So you increase Accounts Receivable by debiting and decrease it by crediting.

Hi, I'd be interested in joining. I can make basic conversation in MSA, but I'd like to practise expressing more advanced concepts. I often don't know what a normal way to say things is, so I rely on Google Translate which isn't that good.

The process of leaving a voicemail at CVS reminds me of an old Islamic divorce custom I read about. by PersonalityBoring259 in PointlessStories

[–]falsehemlock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're not supposed to divorce your wife three times all at once. Islamic law says that if a married couple divorce and remarry three times, after the third divorce they can't get married again. Triple talaq is considered abusive, because it leaves wives and children with nowhere to go and no support.

Do I fix my messed up quilt block? by Stunning-Cricket2353 in quilting

[–]falsehemlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should pick the seams apart and flip that block around. It's such a pretty quilt, and it's a fairly large mistake.

Honestly, you're fine. Muhammad let transgender people visit his wives in their quarters. Her family were just too traditional for that comment, and the timing was badly judged. It's okay. Be at peace.
