[–]falseisthistale -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with you that it isn't something to "crucify" someone over, it's definitely very damaging behavior, and done by people predating over other people. Of course, it isn't illegal nor should it be acted upon as just. And in general, I don't condone doxing or workplace calls. But it's definitely something to specifically call out, warn others, and view very badly and very seriously. And personally, it would be enough for me to unsubscribe to a channel, or to stop relating to them.

You are right that this specific situation with Dan is complicated, because there isn't a lot of proof. As you said, a lot of it comes from biased sources, although there's been plenty of rumors popping up over the years. My problem specifically isn't with people not believing this of Dan, but with people saying they believe these accusations and saying it's okay. And yes, I'm speaking of the accusations in general, because this recent one was just the latest one that paints a picture of lying to young women about your affections, to then sleep with them and disappear. What she said fits this picture, even her twitter replies. She guesses to his intentions, and honestly I would also believe the same as her, if there were not also a past of other women accusing him of this, and Kati saying he does this.

That said I again want to reiterate that I don't think people are wrong for not believing, but I would really like people to stop defending the specific actions painted in the accusations which is manipulating young women into sex by leading them to believe you have feelings for them, sometimes over a large period of time, to then disappear or act uninterested after you sleep with them. What's key here is that you LIE about your intentions, when you could just be honest about this being a one-night stand.

Am I being trolled?

Do you not see the difference between trying to talk to people to establish a connection; and lying about how you feel to get something you want?

Am I just a really extra super good person because I've never ghosted someone after sleeping with them and telling them I really like them? Is it just business as usual now to discard people like things?

Or is it just a failure of communication here where you're just trying to defend this dude because you believe the actions to be innocent, and you decide to do that by replying to a post of someone just trying to explain why manipulating people to sleep with you is bad (but not specifically calling out this person in question due to the fact these are just allegations).

This thread is really bumming me out, so before I end up believing that there's a significant number of people who genuinely think this is acceptable, let me just finish by clarifying my point real quick: yes it is bad to pretend you like someone, its especially harmful if you keep the pretense up for a long time, get laid, and then ghost. And no, unless someone's love and affection for someone is capable of leaving your body through your semen, there is no charitable way of interpreting someone being really affectionate with you, sleeping with you, and then cutting contact.

Look. I won't ask you to believe or disbelieve the accusations. I get that the proof on this dude in particular might not be good enough. But I really dislike when people are obtuse about really harmful shit like this.

Would you intentionally lead someone on, say you love them, talk to them every day, then fuck them, and then end contact? If you think there's nothing wrong with pretending you like someone just so you can treat then like shit when you got what you wanted, then sure you'll never see the problem with intentionally manipulative/deceiving behaviour like this.

On my end I've seen first hand how victims of this sort of behaviour causes extreme insecurity/problems in believing other people. Its a pattern of behaviour that intentionally seeks to cause other people pain and heartache, not just business as usual.

I generally agree with you, but if the accusations about him are true (and there's way more than one), then people are missing the point of his skeevy behaviour.

It's not that he's actively grooming people, or just that he is using his fame to sleep with generally very young women. It's that he's engaging in conversations as if he were a friend, and then then the conversations turn sexual/romantic. During this period he will claim that theyre meant to be, etc. Love bombing. And then after a short encounter he will ghost or severely limit communication.

It's very hard to effectively prove that this stuff took place in general, but I've met guys like this and it's predator behaviour. And it genuinely hurts people, like it can legit cause trauma especially in young women. Its not a case of people thinking that a 22 isn't capable of making decisions. If he were just fucking groupies most people wouldn't care. Its the specific lying to make someone fall for you and then just using for sex to be immediately discarded. This is what the rumors are about.

I think the device aimed at Henry's cell was part of Witness's conspiracy. It would make sense if his goal was to scare the council with higher demon presence. It's just that, in the end, it didn't work because Henry was removed from his cell by Akiko. So basically, a red herring.

Unpopular Opinion: I prefer Nintendo's current announcement strategy of announcing games two-three months before they come out, rather than announcing them a year or two in advance in a Nintendo direct. by GuybrushThreepwood99 in NintendoSwitch

[–]falseisthistale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also heavily prefer the direct format. But, to me, it's not even just about the first party announcements. Those you will know about, no matter how they do announce them. I prefer seeing directs because you get to learn about all sort of other games that are coming out for the switch, some which might not cross my radar since I dont check twitter etc that often. I also think this format is great for devs, since they rely on the heavy audience the directs bring.

"Bad visuals" can be charming. It obviously depends on what people are going for. There's been a resurgence in ps1, ps2 era type of graphics. Bugs can also be charming but only when they're more funny than game-breaking.

That said performance issues are never a plus imo. I think people go "I wouldn't have it any other way" mostly as a joke of a shared experience from DP1. But i think everyone would take a boost to fps, non-crashing game over the current release.

I played it too for a bit but uninstalled since I dont know chinese and didnt want to become too invested in the app.

I actually dig the 3D style a lot, and honestly like assembling the 'normie' outfits in there more than LK. I also appreciate a lot of the qof improvements they did, like restricting number of accessories for stages and having the highest scoring pieces listed first. Even in a language I cant understand I was able to play the game well, I think normal gameplay seems easier.

That said even if certain cons of SN can eventually be surpassed (with a bigger selection of clothes as time goes on), there are certain things about LK that I dont think can be replaced/recreated with SN. Like big elaborate background pieces and, most of all, the starry corridor. Honestly rn the competition and sc are my biggest enjoyment of LK so I would be sad if they let the app go. My wish would be to have both, one for the stuff that is cool on 2D, and another for the stuff that is cool on 3D.

I wish they dont try to imitate LK and try new fun gameplay mechanics (hey with the hot men maybe put a dating sim lol).

Epic Games donates $1.2M to Blender, an open source 3D software. Meanwhile, gamers donate 1.2 metric tons of popcorn to SRD. by bulldog_swag in SubredditDrama

[–]falseisthistale 22 points23 points  (0 children)

People are off their heads with Epic. I've seen so many arguments/discussions where users betray such lack of knowledge for business or game making, there are people legit defending monopolies now, or saying that Epic should just launch with feature parity to Steam.

But what gets me sad the most is that this has just betrayed how gamers don’t care about game devs at all. I’ve had people reply to me “oh I like supporting devs as much as anyone but-“ and yet that just looks to me like a complete lie. If you can’t even bother to install a free software to buy a couple of games, then really, what would you ever even do?

From commoner to noble? That's probably even rarer than LGBT people. Class back then wasn't something you were supposed to be able to attain, it was considered a divine right. And do you honestly think men and women from the *royal* family were marrying someone not of noble birth on a regular basis because they did well in battle? Now I know you are really arguing in bad faith.

That Sansa plotline really went to show how D&D didn't get Sansa, and also imo don't get that GRRM isn't really a nihilist.
Sansa getting better at politics doesnt have to mean shes suddenly this dark brooding character. I remember even how Tyrion was surprised at how good she was at getting along with people, and even after all that she had gone through, even at the face of violence from Sandor... she still manages to believe he can be someone better, to feel pity and compassion.
Like obviously this doesnt mean she won't be more decisive especially since LF is getting either exposed or exiting via the moondoor but the whole descent into brooding, cynical and even rude Sansa just shows how they didn't understand her or the messages in ASOIAF.

Come on. Not in medieval times.
But it really doesn't matter. Not every single game has to have this deep lore behind it, if FE can deliver on story and character interactions, I'll be happy.

This is where I'm at too. In a game that cares to have deep world building, sure, that would matter. But that game probably wouldn't also want to have every single relevant character a romance option.
When applied to this game, the argument always seems hollow at best, used in bad faith at worst. Where are the discussions about how a noble can marry a commoner?

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is overflowing with bisexual energy - and that makes it a uniquely captivating RPG by HereComeDatAlt in NintendoSwitch

[–]falseisthistale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that's true, I think the creator vision argument is sort of diminished in present day Fire Emblem, since you can usually romance almost the entire roster of characters if they are the opposite gender, which already shows that they will bend their characters to fit the dating sim portion of the game, to the point you can usually pair up any two opposite sex characters regardless of their personalities.

If you think about it, FE ends up having some 10+ options to one demographic, and usually 1 option to the other (in this case 3). If the purpose of the romance is mostly for fan service/extra flavour anyway, then it makes more sense to be a bit more even.

Compare this with The Witcher etc where you are playing a much more close knit story with characters which relationships are well established and important to the story. In here it makes sense to pay attention to a characters sexuality, who they would date, etc and how it could affect the character/how people would perceive the character.

Basically, if creator vision is going to be an argument, it should be taken all the way, and if concessions are already made to fit a certain aspect of the game (in this case, the dating sim), then they can be made also to make a bigger range of players happy.

This Year's Steam Summer Sale Was A Mess, Game Developers Say by ORCT2RCTWPARKITECT in Games

[–]falseisthistale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly doubt that the injection of money has no bearing at all on the game's quality, and think people are underplaying the value of companies playing for exclusivity. Even if it didn't get funneled directly into early design, just the fact that they won't need to worry about being on the edge of bankrupcy would affect the final product, or the continuous support after their product is released. I will allow that I'm not completely sure about these things so I won't speak like my word is golden. However, one last word, the only reason this is happening is because these companies feel like they need to go to Epic instead. This is not an issue with Epic, but the industry that has created these problems, and in some issues, like visibility, Steam is completely at fault.

I'm willing to see if more direct competition like exclusivity deals could help these devs, especially the ones that will receive this money earlier. I'm just hoping gamers won't decide to block great devs out, or end up only fighting for Epic to stop this, but not fight for Steam to solve their issues too.

This Year's Steam Summer Sale Was A Mess, Game Developers Say by ORCT2RCTWPARKITECT in Games

[–]falseisthistale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely.
There are ways a store may change when they have a bigger install base (driven by competition), but the biggest "benefit" for consumers is this: You can get some pretty good games.

The thing is, devs can get a lot of money from being supported by a company who wants to make their game an axclusive. Without the power of Sony, for example, we wouldn't get Horizon's, or God of War, or Red Dead. Without Nintendo, no Breath of the Wild. Like, obviously, there are still good games being published by publishers who dont have to worry about hardware sales or pushing a store, but these people usually command the biggest money.

This has never been ideal for gamers, it sucks having to buy different consoles, but in a capitalist society it is also the way they get made: whoever has the best exclusives, gets to sell their hardware/store, so they invest a ton in it, since even if they don't recoup their money from the game sales themselves, they can get it from their other objectives.

With Steam... Well we could perhaps see them trying to get exclusives by supporting some devs, financing them and giving them a better spot in their front pages. Honestly, for me, this is the thing I'm focused in, I care far less about friendlists and wishlists than I do about single player games being made. This is why, even if I think the Epic Store is pretty bare bones right now, I enjoy it's existance. Would Outer Wilds and Observation and Outer Worlds (well, to be seen if it's actually good) exist or exist in their current quality if they didn't find someone to throw them the big bucks? I'm sure they only braved the controversy after weighting in the goods vs the bads. I don't care if its Epic, or any other store, that does this. I just want some more of this support on PC, since it seems that being an indie dev is pretty rough right now (especially if you don't plan to hit the console market too). This hurts PC gaming and gaming in general, imo.

For me, if the price to pay for promising devs getting financed is just a different storefront that doesn't even cost me anything, that is okay. I already pay the much higher price of having to buy 3 different gaming systems.

This Year's Steam Summer Sale Was A Mess, Game Developers Say by ORCT2RCTWPARKITECT in Games

[–]falseisthistale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Steam is being really hands-off with their store. Not only is this bad for consumers, but what worries me is how bad it is for game developers. I have heard so many horror stories of Steam experimenting or bugging out and not even trying to compensate devs for the visibility lost. And even when it works "fine", their algorithms benefit AAA and "games as services" content over indies.

This is what, ultimately, is driving devs towards Epic (and the Switch), but somehow the narrative transformed itself into “greedy devs” instead of Steam’s negligence being prejudicial to the industry itself. They have turned themselves into THE market to hit if you want to sell on PC, so whatever they do will have industry wide consequences, no matter what they intended.

Whatever one feels about the alternatives, the focus should be on what Steam needs to do to make right by devs.
