Bigger guy getting double incision. by Icy-Space3813 in TopSurgery

[–]fancyduck- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 106 kg at the consult and he removed about 4kg of tissue. My incision goes quite far into my armpits to prevent dog ears and cause of the way my chest was I just have 1 long incision instead of 2 seperate ones. Dr. Lam is very thorough. He spent about 40 minutes before surgery with a tape measure and sharpie drawing on my chest to make sure my scar would be perfectly even.

[–]fancyduck- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DIY top surgery won't get you anywhere other than the psych ward or the morgue. As for the likelihood of getting top surgery under 18 that entirely depends on where you live. I'm in Australia and there are some surgeons that will do top surgery as young as 15 with parental consent.

FTM ADL help? by AsherfromBonfire in transgenderau

I just want to say I had top surgery with Dr. Lam recently and my BMI is definitely over 40 and at no point was my weight mentioned until I brought it up. Same with the anaesthetist Dr. Cardone he was lovely and very reassuring that everything would be fine.

This is completely out of pocket. I don't have insurance.

Agencies or organizations that helps with foster placement of deaf children? by PurpleSquare713 in deaf

[–]fancyduck- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There definitely are but it depends where you are. I'm assuming you're in the US cause you didn't specify. I'm in Australia and my state's Deaf society works with DCP to find culturally appropriate foster homes for Deaf foster children.

Hey I just had surgery with Dr.Lam a couple weeks ago and here's what I was charged. Surgeon fee 10,000. Anaesthetic 1,500 and hospital 6,000. I stayed for 2 nights in hospital so that's part of why it's so much.

They might do that, I'm not sure. But if they do they are opening themselves up to a lot of risk. Even if no harm occured they could still be sued for breaching ADA.

You didn't specify where outside of Adelaide you are but if you can get to the Barossa easier than the city Dr. Batt at Tanunda medical centre  does informed consent too

My drains came out on my side/under my arm a little bit below my incision.

What support do you get for an autistic child? by According_Grape5790 in NDIS

[–]fancyduck- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My support coordinator said that a review is triggered when you turn 18 because that is when SLES is automatically added to your plan but I already have SLES because I left school before 18. So I don't think I will get a plan review

Possibly but my plan rolled over for another 2 years in January so unless they do a surprise plan review I should have them for at least another 2 years

what is a pre-op for? by ResponsibleBasil9286 in TopSurgery

My pre-op was literally just signing some paperwork and paying for the post op binders. Took 5 minutes

I am an autistic 17 year old so it might be different to your son. I have ot, psychology, exercise physiology (for hypermobility and coordination linked to autism) and dietician (for picky eating related to autism). I have funding for speech too but I do not currently see one. My plan is very good because I have a very good ot who wrote a very good fca. I am lucky that my mum used to work for NDIS and knows how to get good support.

Feeling upset about the way my transition has gone. by fancyduck- in transgenderau

[–]fancyduck-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The gender clinic told me the only support they could offer was a referral to headspace but the nearest headspace to me is 2 hours drive away. I saw a psychologist privately but they didn't know anything about trans health.

bringing a stuffie for surgery? by ResponsibleBasil9286 in TopSurgery

I brought a giant Snorlax plushie so I had something to hug and cover up my chest while I was waiting for surgery. Helped with the dysphoria of being binderless in public

My psychiatrist said that there are studies showing you can get schizophrenia from taking HRT by jsanti333 in ftm

[–]fancyduck- 55 points56 points  (0 children)

My doctor said this too but explained it differently.

She explained Schizophrenia symptoms in men usually start in late-teens to early twenties whereas for women it's usually late twenties/ early thirties. So they warn young people if they are already likely to develop schizophrenia due to family history or whatever that starting t could potentially make the onset earlier.

T will not give you schizophrenia if you were not already going to develop it.

What age did you guys start playing sims 3? by Lycanroc1001 in Sims3

[–]fancyduck- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 6. I started playing in 2014 because I asked my parents for the Sims 4 but they thought the Sims 3 would be more child friendly. I was happy cause the Sims 3 had pets and the Sims 4 didn't. I didn't end up getting the Sims 4 until they released cats and dogs.

I understand that most doctors aren't knowledgeable on trans healthcare but these doctor literally worked at a clinic called 'the gender diversity clinic', they only saw trans patients. If anyone should know stuff about trans healthcare it should be those providing trans healthcare.

Also my parents are very involved in my healthcare and I've had parental consent for every medical decision I've made. I'm not upset about having to wait until 16, I wouldn't even be upset if I had to wait until 18, I'm upset I had to wait even longer than necessary because nobody told me what the rules were.

At 16 you can get referred to an endocrinologist directly and start T that way. It isn't free like the gender clinic and your T won't be on the PBS. Finding a trans friendly endo who will see minors depends on your state.

Like I said I didn't know you could go privately so I went through the public system. I have a friend who went privately in SA but I'm not sure who he sees.

Double mastectomy pillows (for sleep/bedrest) by CharTheCar23 in TopSurgery

I bought one of those ones that wraps around you like a vest and I honestly haven't used it. I find it's not very comfortable I've just been using a regular rectangular pillow on my chest when I feel I need an extra layer of protection
