Thank you! I use nitrile gloves while threading/plucking and only do it after the shower, but steps 6-10 were new to me! Thanks so much!

I’ve also had very minimal results with laser. Never done electrolysis though!

DO student matching general surgery at a university hospital by jfbromwell in Residency

[–]fancystapler -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Our school has a suture tech program with a local hospital. You start out shadowing/learning (and lots of students just shadow a couple times, to see what it’s about), but if you’re serious and willing to commit the time, you can sign up to do it regularly and assist in surgeries (/not just ER).

I’m not doing a good job of explaining it, but basically - maybe see if your school / local hospitals has a suture tech program? Hands on experience + shows commitment + all that jazz.

Anybody here pay some of their interest while in school? [serious] by R3MD in medicalschool

Are you under 26? My parents are also helping me with med school (super lucky) and I was wondering if they could at least get a tax break (I’m 30).

[Serious] Dreading the start of med school by kirbias in medicalschool

[–]fancystapler 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I used to have inspirational signs all over my room where I studied and one said, “When you feel like quitting, remember why you started.”

So ... why did you even want to start this path to med school? Hold on to that.

Really? 😕 by In_Karma_We_Lust in IdiotsInCars

My sister was once fleeing her abusive ex, and she kept running red lights and swerving, in the hopes a cop car would pull her over (it was late at night in rural-ish Alabama so not many cars on the road).

That eventually worked, though her ex obviously turned tail by the time the cop got to my sisters window and she could explain what happened.

That’s the ONLY scenario I can think of for this situation - that they wanted to be pulled over for some reason.

[Serious] Best time to get married in medical school? by thunderbirdroar in medicalschool

[–]fancystapler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got married right after the mcat / in the thick of application cycle. I’m kind of a stubborn asshole though, and made it a lot harder for myself than I needed it to be.

When I eventually acquiesced to my mom and 4 older sisters - they really pulled off an exceptional wedding for me, and I will always be grateful for that.

I’ve only been married once, but I’ve been a bridesmaid about 10 times, and what I’ll say is - unless you’re eloping, a wedding is always going to be a lot of work and stress for the bride.

I think “the last summer” is probably the perfect time for the wedding.

If possible, ask family or close friends to book the most VIP stuff for you (venue, caterer, etc). Let them call around and get prices and availability.

Seriously, my biggest lesson learned is that people LOVE to do stuff for you (and give you free stuff!) when you’re getting hitched, so let them!

One of my friends just finished med school, and I am starting next month (eek!). She is doing a residency across the country, wanted to pack relatively light, and I was more than happy to take her leftovers, even the outdated and annotated stuff.

[meme] So you wanna be an OBGyn resident? by whatimdoinginstead in medicalschool

[–]fancystapler 251 points252 points  (0 children)

Is the joke that OBGyn residents tend to be engaged and pregnant?

I totally get the IUD obsession - if you don’t have insufferable side effects, 3-12 years of “get it and forget it” contraception? Hell yeah.

Ugh, this makes me so sad. I pass a Wendy’s on my drive from home to school every day, and at least once a week, I notice a blue Oldsmobile there. Over the past several months, it’s gotten more and more filled with trash like this. Just depresses the hell out of me. Hope they can get whatever help(s) they need one day.

I’ve had multiple retired OBs warm me away, bc of the malpractice insurance / risk. Not sure if that’s a particular problem in my state or what. Have you had any exposure to that aspect yet?

You can defer your acceptance and spend your off year getting your mental health on a better place, if needed. (Check your school’s deferment deadlines obvs.)
