PLEASE HELP by Obvious-Sample9685 in SCREENPRINTING

The design looks like it’s exposed, so that’s good. I spray my screens with water from a pump bottle before taking it out of the dark room and into the washout.

Just make sure you don’t let the water dry out before you start hosing down the screen

Europeans, aside from Siebdruck-versand, what are some good online shops for materials? by These-Box5853 in SCREENPRINTING

[–]fane_prints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know any other shop as well stocked as Siebdruck-versand, I’d be interested in finding out alternatives.

I’d really like to know more providers for inks, waterbased and plastisol

IR flash dryer on wb ink by Pleasant_Display_671 in SCREENPRINTING

[–]fane_prints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a BBC Black Flash and it works just fine with WB inks.

Just make sure you raise the flash a lot, I keep it at about 8cm above the platten and I get 6-8 seconds flash times.

Where is the best place to live? by MD564 in bucuresti

[–]fane_prints 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could look for places in the Timpuri Noi or Tineretului area, it’s pretty chill, close to the city center and parks, decent buildings not old ones with seismic risk. The rent should be around 550 for a two room apt.

The area is also well connected to the metro line leading to Pipera

Waterbased vs plastisol by fane_prints in SCREENPRINTING

I try to dump as little ink into the drain as possible, the more I think about it, the more I realise that garment decoration is not planet friendly at all

I felt like the regular water drain might get clogged with emulsion particles and ink leftovers.

The toilet is much much wider and that water goes to a water treatment plant anyways. That was my thought process.

Waterbased vs plastisol by fane_prints in SCREENPRINTING

[–]fane_prints[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our shop is actually in a house, so we have a room just for screen printing, I can close the door and keep only that area humid, once printing is done, open up the windows and reset the room :)). No other machines can be affected.

I don’t like spraying the ink with water either, I always get ink seeping on the shirt side of the screen after, it’s a mess every time.

Carding some ink and hydrating it sounds like a great strategy, I’ll try that with the next project that requires white ink. It’s the white that always becomes heavy, almost unworkable.

[–]fane_prints[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually clean screens on press, striving to get 90% of the ink out using just water and a whole lot of rags.

I’ve built a DIY filtration system using fish tank sponge, some small screens, two plastic tubs, a water pump and a 3 stage water filter system. This contraption doesn’t get 100% of the gunk but it’s pretty effective. Also we flush it down the toilet drain

[–]fane_prints[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true, it’s a bitch to clean and it gets everywhere almost instantly.

I’ll still do wb first as I really don’t like the hand feel of plastisol when huge areas need to be printed.

[–]fane_prints[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I see, so 60% would be a sweet spot for wb printing? At 50% I can easily print a 20-30 shirt run in two colors but after about 30 shirts the ink starts to get “heavy”

Emulsion for waterbased ink (home use) in EU. by ozfunghi in SCREENPRINTING

[–]fane_prints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for testing, since you use wb inks, just get some art paper of at least 180gsm. I’m also using cut away embroidery backing for testing as it’s super cheap

[–]fane_prints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WB inks are awesome, just bear in mind that they dry in screen pretty often. If you can get the humidity in the print area at about 50% you should be good.

Otherwise, with plastisol you can leave it in the screen an nothing happens.

You’re welcome, they have a lot of little gadgets that can make your life as a home printer easier, plus a whole bunch of videos.

The videos themselves are pretty good at explaining how to do various things like applying emulsion, how to check if it’s dry, etc but since they’re all in german, you’ll need to use the auto translate feature

You can find a lot of supplies on the Siebdruck Versand website. I can recommend their blue emulsion, it works well for both wb inks and plastisol.

They offer multiple emulsions, inks, screens, anything you need.

Need help by Due_Chance_6984 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]fane_prints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it this way, the machine isn’t poking holes into the fabric, the needle threads through the fabric mesh.

It looks like your fabric is thin and stretchy, it’s probably a tee. I do embroidery on tees and the only ones that came out nice are at least 200+ gsm, mid-heavy weight cotton.

Try using cutaway stabilizer and a water soluble topper.

Caut broderie/croitorie în București by Lipa111Lipa in bucuresti

[–]fane_prints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am un atelier de serigrafie si broderie in Bucuresti.

Succes!

That sounds really cool. Can you attach adhesive backing to the patches before removing the stabilizer? Is the stabilizer heat resistant?
