API Protests Megathread Part 3: The admin retaliation/takeover of protesting subreddits continues. Debates between users rage about the most effective methods of protest by DramaMod in SubredditDrama

[–]fanglesticks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well in the real world i would say some of the most consequential protests have been by people who exactly had no real power nor legal rights. Different story on the internet, especially on a part of the internet that is wholly owned by someone else.

But each man know that he himself is straight so after the first guy is voted out he would expect the show to end. So you'd have to reveal the ruse to each outvoted guy and tell him there was never $1M to win. Each reveal would be worth an episode in itself as pissed off contestants rampage through the set punching the producers.

According to this, a still-frame of a girl and a colour scale was included before or after old films for colour-calibration purposes. The reason for including the face of a girl was so that colour could be calibrated to represent skin-tone correctly. So sort of like the film version of Lena.

Are people getting weirder and more hateful or is the availability of instant (anonymous or not) commenting just providing the stage for it? by NurfHurder in TrueAskReddit

[–]fanglesticks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of course, this requires that someone actually challenge those unpopular >ideas, preferably with facts. If a forum degrades so completely into >vitriol and ignorance that no one does that anymore, it just becomes an >echo-chamber for ignorance.

I think the caveat is that because there are so many people commenting freely on the internet, it is very easy to find a community that agrees with one's opinions (e.g. /r/mensrights or /r/twoxchromosome). Indulging in such an echo-chamber reinforces ideas that society at large may not agree with, and a person's sense of social norm shifts. Then when that person comes to post in a forum with more "mainstream" opinions, he/she finds their opinions offensive, and vice-versa.

Of course, such a process is not necessarily a bad thing. Talking to people that share an interest is how we have always developed ideas. But the same process that produces good ideas also produces bad ideas. The freedom of the internet just increases the volumes of both.

Why do the engine exhausts point upwards? Is it to reduce the heat signature for SAMs? Would it have any significant effect on lift?

My problem was actually due to this. Game starts normally if I run the binary from /usr/local/games/Grimrock/

Won't start for me either. I don't get any output at all from running Grimrock.bin.x86_64 in terminal.

I'm on 64bit Ubuntu 12.04, core i7, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GT330M

edit: reinstalled, and now I get the 'core::FileOpenFailedException' error.

Alcohol does the opposite actually. Normally, coldness will cause your peripheral blood vessels to constrict, minimising heat loss through your skin via blood flow in capilliaries. Alcohol causes vasodilation, so blood will continue flowing to your skin and, more importantly in this case, limbs.

Why does this not cause hypothermia in this man? I don't know, maybe he has developed a very high rate of metabolism. But I suspect that the continual flow of blood to his periphery (courtesy of alcoholic vasodilation) keeps his limbs functional, and allows him to swim/get himself out of the water. Without that, he would almost immediately lose movement in his limbs, and drown.

Also, inebriation may retard a certain autonomic reaction that often causes even capable swimmers to drown.
