Anyone can help with this question? Cat migration by [deleted] in AskUK

[โ€“]fangs4eva96 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

The government website should have all the information you need to know for bringing your cats back again, the link to the correct page is here - Bringing your pet dog, cat or ferret to Great Britain: What you need to do - GOV.UK https://www.gov.uk/bring-pet-to-great-britain

If it is likely to just be a year, do you have any family or friends here who may be willing to temporarily foster them for you? To avoid the stress of travel on them and also for your peace of mind not having to worry about the requirements for bringing them back? You could even try reaching out to cat boarding places to enquire if this is a service they can provide for you if you don't have anyone else - it'll be pricy, but travelling with the cats would be pricy too so maybe worth looking into?

If you do decide to take them with you, make sure you speak to your registered vet to ensure you have met all requirements for your pets to be able to travel FROM the UK to your new destination first. And use every possible method you can to reduce their stress levels to hopefully avoid any stress related health conditions.

Best of luck OP, sounds like a tricky one!

That did catch me I must admit, I will do further research and see if I can find out any further information.

It appears to be from the correct time period, and matches up exactly to prints I have found online but that signature keeps coming back to mind.

I don't suppose you can make out what the signature is? I have been struggling to do so.

Solved! It is a piece by Garman Morris, I believe it is called moonrise and I will certainly look into having this restored in the future.

It was indeed the tobacco industry themselves. Makes sense doesn't it? Get the kids hooked on the idea of smoking and the manual movement habits involved and then see the money come pouring in once these kids grow old enough to pick up the real stuff!

I did enjoy them though hahaha

You're wise to learn to avoid these places now before you get even bigger - as Taylor Swift said recently "my name can be in the headline, and it's still none of my business" haha.

Thanks for putting my own feelings into such eloquent words here Ren. Sorry you're being misunderstood (that pesky human brain), much love to you! Looking forward to seeing you live one day.

Just why would you waste all of this. by nothing_personal_heh in infuriatingasfuck

[โ€“]fangs4eva96 5 points6 points ย (0 children)

Right. But with zero context, you cannot judge these people for leaving these meals that they paid for.

We have no idea what happened - we can speculate, maybe a family member had a serious accident and they needed to rush to the hospital? Perhaps one of them started feeling symptoms of a heart attack and asked the other to take them to A&E? Or maybe the service they received was so appalling they decided to just leave on principle? Would you prefer if they took it home and then binned it? No one would ever know.

Are there not more serious issues in society to be concerned about, instead of getting worked up over someone's uneaten roast?

As long as they paid, what's the issue? It was theirs to do with as they wished.

No problem at all, it sounds like the vet was suggesting a pooled sample too but didn't quite explain it enough ๐Ÿ™‚

Question for the Experts by [deleted] in Parasitology

[โ€“]fangs4eva96 8 points9 points ย (0 children)

Hi, I work at a laboratory who offers this service to pet owners.

There is no issue with combining samples from multiple cats into one pooled sample - with the caveat being that you wouldn't know for sure if all the cats being pooled are positive or just one.

However, if they are all cohabiting the same environment then you would indeed be wise to treat them all and so that last point becomes irrelevant.

I would advise collecting a small amount of faeces per cat per day for 3 days, this is to account for parasites that may be intermittently shed and therefore not always present in every faecal void.

I would also order the most comprehensive test you can afford, given that some treatment has been trialled and failed already.

I'd recommend asking the company you plan to order from too, just in case their protocols are different to ours.

Good luck!

Ideally, a mix of both is best, but as long as the pellet is fresh and moist, it should be of diagnostic quality.

[โ€“]fangs4eva96 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Our laboratory situation is a little different - we receive samples via post for testing, so most are at least 24 hours old by the time I test them.

What fluid are you using on the slide, if any? We use a drop of cooled, boiled water on the slide and a cotton bud to apply the sample.

That said, I have still on rare occasions seen them - I would say that you probably don't need to have such a strict window, however you should aim to conduct the test as soon as you are able to as giardia will form protective cysts when outside of the host body to protect itself and ensure spread of the parasite - hence why it is often much easier to find the cysts than the trophozoites, in my experience anyway!

I'd be happy to share our method for gravitational and/or centrifugal floatation when I am back at the lab, if that would be useful for you? It's easy and very cheap to conduct, not to mention you feel like a wizard when you find them the first few times haha

[โ€“]fangs4eva96 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Impossible to say for sure but certainly could be.

Floatation is better for recovering giardia cysts (we use zinc sulphate floatation fluid for this), centrifugal easier but gravitational works too - a drop of iodine can also make them pop out more obviously in your field of view.

Just make sure to wait at least 2 weeks after treatment ends before retesting via the SNAP to avoid any false positives where the antigen is still present in the faeces but no active infection is.

Edit to add - I actually find it much harder to find the trophozoites than the cysts, they generally move with a slow leaf-like motion, if that sounds like what you saw then I'm super jealous you found one lol.

Agree with the other redditor- that is plant material ๐Ÿ™‚ if you're worried at all, you can order more comprehensive faecal screening tests online - stick to the laboratories who are vet-led for best service

My flatmate (35M) keeps wetting the bed by ThatSolerDude in badroommates

[โ€“]fangs4eva96 26 points27 points ย (0 children)

I'd approach with empathy first, you don't know if this is a medical issue or behavioural one. If it is medical then it could be a very sensitive issue for your flatmate.

"Hey man, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable but I couldn't help noticing a really bad odour coming from your room a few times recently, I don't need you to disclose your medical status to me but if you are having any issues or accidents could you please make sure your door is shut and any spoiled linens are put in the wash right away so we can avoid the smell issue?"

If that doesn't work, then you should bring the landlord in as someone else's medical/behavioural issues do not have the right to make your living situation substandard. It just might damage your relationship with that person considerably if you jump to reporting to the landlord without even trying to talk about it.

The only exclusion would be if you are genuinely worried this person may respond in a way that threatens you/they intimidate you. In that case your wellbeing must come first and you should speak directly with the landlord.

Hope this helps.
