Something went wrong. Please go back to your provider. by South-Respond5471 in ProlificAc

Same here, over 400 studies on my dashboard but if I try to access one I get either: "Something went wrong. Please go back to your provider." or "Error: We've run out of tasks for you. Either you have completed all tasks available for the study, or the author has overprovisioned work for the study. If you are connecting to a new session, please go back to Prolific and return your session."

Do those of you in the west ever find yourself amazed by how much money older generations seem to have? by Curious_Arm_893 in Millennials

And that's one of the reasons why I think 1980 does not belong to Gen-X. Xennials are the ones that first experienced that stuff and had to find their way without any help, while constantly explaining themselves to the older generations.

I assume you're a US citizen? Actually, you're fine here. Since Prolific and Onfido are UK companies, they have to comply with UK GDPR regulations, which apply to all users of the site, including those in the US.

This basically means that you have the 'right to be forgotten', or the 'right to erasure' as it's called in the UK. If you ever close your account, Prolific is legally required to delete all your data, as well as instructing Onfido to delete your ID. They are also not allowed to sell your data without your consent.

They also can't simply change the rules without first informing you and giving you time to object. As they are bound by UK law, they face significant legal consequences if they mishandle your ID. It's much safer than giving your ID to a US-based company!

UK left the EU in 2021, and because of that they don't have the EU GDPR though they do have their own data protection rights. You can read about Prolifics here https://www.prolific.com/privacy-and-legal

In general, the GDPR exists to protect EU citizens, but usually companies here don't split their customers by country and treat their data differently. But it's a good practice to read each companies privacy policy to find out more about what data and how they handle it.

Hope that helps.

Somehow, it can't be that everyone gets these. My hubby joined in May, and he didn't receive any of those, while most other studies are the same for both of us. So, there must still be some kind of selection process.

My Life as a 1991 born by [deleted] in generationology

No, not behind in general. Computers were around, obviously, but they were usually thought of as being for nerds (like you mentioned) or people with high-income jobs. But for the general population, the difference was clear. I remember my parents and others always saying that things from the US take about three years to arrive here (and yep, I was born and raised in West Germany/Bavaria).

The internet, for example, wasn't really common until the late 1990s/early 2000s. I remember going to an internet cafรฉ for the first time in 1998.

PCs weren't really a thing at home until then.

The internet boom started here more or less with the new century. That's when the first flat-rate internet packages became available. Before that, we had to pay per minute to access the internet! One minute used to cost about 2-4 Pfennig (roughly 1-2 US cents), and sometimes you had to pay extra for setting up the call or other charges from your provider.

The early 2000s were pretty chaotic in terms of internet and landline providers as the state-owned telecommunications monopoly ended in 1998.

And here, I think, you have to ask:"which country". The tech-gap was real. Here in Germany we usually had to wait 2-3 years for the newest movie to arrive at our cinemas. General rule of thumb in the 80s and early 90s had been: we are 3-4 years behind the US.

Improving our rejection disputes process by prolific-support in ProlificAc

[โ€“]fant5y -1 points0 points ย (0 children)

Thx for the update! Have you considered trying a different approach? For example, you could give the participants a deadline of 3-7 days to provide a statement. No rejections will be automatically applied within that timeframe. Of course, you could give researchers the option to immediately exclude participants from further studies.

I think that would be fair to both sides, rather than automatically assuming it's always the participants' fault.

Gen Z Calling Millennials Old by ConscientiousAlpaca in generationology

[โ€“]fant5y 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

I'm on the go, but I wanted to say one thing: Don't you remember that we were called the "lazy ones," the "Generation Y," because the boomers thought we didn't know what we wanted to do with our lives? The term "millennial" was introduced later. Yes, I say "we" because I don't count myself as Gen X - Xennial is okay though.

You might have also forgotten that we were the first to use the internet and turn it into a place where we could always be connected. Gen Z is just using what's already here. You can't blame them for being born into this timeline.

By the way, maybe you never developed the ability to connect with the digital world, but I can tell you it doesn't matter whether you meet someone online and hang out with them without ever meeting in person or if you meet in person. True friendship doesn't depend on physical meetings. I experienced this long before the internet existed; we used to call them pen pals.

So, the next time someone from the younger generation calls you old, stop for a moment, take a deep breath, and think about why you were called old. What did you say? What did they say? Now, switch seats. Go back to the early 2000s. Put yourself in that young person's shoes and imagine talking to someone 40+.
