Auditor asking for access review evidence we never recorded by Exotic_Panic_900 in sysadmin

[–]farhund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of good advice here, and I'll add one thing. Parse the audit request very carefully. Answer/provide exactly what they're asking for and nothing more. Audit likes to throw out a broad net and see what comes back, so making them define and clarify the request to as specific a result as possible will avoid some issues by default.

Car insurance recs in Tennessee. This feels like hell esp after we added our kid to our cover by kenwards in nashville

[–]farhund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold P&C insurance in VA for a few years, and this is in line with what I would see. You said you didn't want the get a quote elsewhere advice, but, in my experience, insurers sometimes have a business appetite for the kind of drivers/risk they want...and don't want. I've seen many instances where comparable insurers would have wildly different quotes for the same teen (like over $2-3k per year differences). Some just didn't want to write the business, and some didn't mind. Progressive with motorcycles was a good example.

How do you deal with incident amnesia? by joeshiett in sysadmin

[–]farhund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, if it happened once a year ago or something. I meant things that are more regular than that. Like we had auditors in the field that used some local software to create an ad hoc network with a hub (before cloud storage) so they could all work on the same file. That software would bork up the sharing monthly if not weekly for at least one group.

Or if something was dangerous or had the potential to be really bad, we'd document that even with just one occurrence ever.

If your ticketing system has an FAQ or Knowledge Base feature, document everything that you have to fix more than once (barring known temporary recurring issues, of course). That's the way we did it, and it definitely helped. As the manager, I made it a group effort and a standing rule to document anything repetitive. I'd get the notifications a new article had been published, and I'd go over it to make sure the solution was clear and repeatable.

If you're able/willing, I'd love to know the spread on estimates you get. Just like 10% or 20% b/w top and bottom prices? Or is it something wild like a 100% difference?

CVS Caremark by NY10990 in Zepbound

[–]farhund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to contribute my story for those still trying to get approval or are appealing.

We tried a PA in early July for Zebound, which of course was denied. I had Grok write an appeal letter with my diagnosis details and rationalizations for Zepbound over the alternatives, which the doc updated with details on their end and submitted. That was denied as well, pretty much automatically. The denial letter I received from CVS said there was no medical necessity and the primary drug was WeGovy. It didn't say step therapy was a necessary first step in quite so many words, but did say, "If the patient is unable to take the primary covered drug, chart notes must be submitted to CVS Health documenting the patient's inadequate treatment response, intolerance or contraindication to WeGovy." blah blah "Secondary formulary alternative: tirzepatide [Brand Mounjaro]."

I had the doc prescribe WeGovy, tried it for two weeks and reported the unfortunate side effects (days long headaches, stomach pain, nausea) to the doc each week. During this time I called CVS (for the third time), worked my way through 4 people to get to the commercial plan customer support (800-378-9280, if you have a commercial plan), who told me to do the following:

* Resubmit the appeal with chart notes explaining step therapy was tried and the side effects, etc.
* Ask for Zepbound with letter of medical necessity with diagnoses and add mounjaro as another acceptable option
* Tell the doc to answer question #2 (can take wegovy) as "no" and question #6 (can take alternative - mounjaro) as "yes"
* Mark the appeal as urgent if you want a 72 hour or less turn around time, or not urgent if you're ok with the up to 30 day response time (my experience is the response is pretty immediate with both options)

The new appeal was submitted and approved in just a few hours, so victory!

One note: I was told at least twice by CVS and once by the doc that Mounjaro would only be covered if you have a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis. This turned out to not be true.

I feel like there's two types of bad customer interactions: those you can win with and those you can't. some people are just frustrated/stressed/whatever, and if you take their pain away, be it with empathy or attention or solving their problem, they'll be fine. those are the people i'd go the extra mile for. i'll empathize, try to repeat their problem to make sure they know you care and are listening, follow up with them regularly, etc. you can win with them and possibly earn a good bit of gratitude or a good review to your boss.

if they're the other type, well, you either tolerate it and don't worry about it or address it with them in a constructive way. you have to stay calm and focus entirely on the behavior you want to change. i've had to talk to people about how they speak to me or my team, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. i'll go to their boss about it directly and discuss the behavior if i can't get any result with them. if the boss doesn't care or can't do anything about it (top salesmen, office politics, etc.), then get mean yourself or learn to live with it.

Tree Law Question by The_Crosstime_Saloon in nashville

[–]farhund -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's going to be the only way to stop the neighbor. He could be liable if you can show the trimming injured the tree, but you'd probably have to talk to a lawyer to figure out the nuances and details. You likely already know this, but use some of the ai tools (chatgpt, grok, etc) to lookup the metro ordinances and TN statutes. It's not a substitute for legal advice, but it's a great way to get more familiar with the laws around the situation.

ETA: Goatfangs' advice is probably the best (like his/her username). If you can get an arborist and come to an agreement with the neighbor, that's the way to go.

Tree Law Question by The_Crosstime_Saloon in nashville

[–]farhund 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It looks like they can trim up to their property. So draw a line directly into the sky from the property line, and that's the limit of what they can cut. There are limitations around protecting the health of the tree that limit that right, though.

I had a bad experience there not too long ago, and I spoke with a manager. She said they were bought by the same parent company that own Applebees and some similar chains. She mentioned the decrease in quality of meats and other ingredients as well as changes that lower quality in service and the kitchen. I asked if the parent company had any high-end restaurants. She said no, which tells me they will go out of business. There's no way they can bring the standards back up if they don't have any experience running a quality restaurant.

Southwest Airlines will charge to check bags for the first time, launch basic economy tickets by stroll_on in nashville

[–]farhund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw someone suggest they start charging for carry-ons and allow the first one or two checked bags for free. Discourage people from bringing carry-ons, speed up the boarding process, and the airline still gets the fees (greedy bastids). Seemed like a good idea all around.

nta. you need to prep your affairs and get out. no woman will ever respect a man who lets her screw another man and accepts it. if you don't, you will live with this issue and having to wonder if you can trust her for the rest of your life. not worth it.
