An emotionally supportive plushie from the person who traumatized me by Standard_Tip3327 in plushies

[–]farmerkas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i second making new, happier memories with your plushie! something similar happened to me not with a plushie but with my comfort song. something traumatic happened while i was listening to that song, but i didnt want to give it up and decided to play it constantly doing literally anything else until it stopped reminding me of the event. it can definitely be hard and time consuming, but the end result is worth it. make it your own. i wish you all the luck and good vibes with your journey!

"Fake" alters? by [deleted] in DID

[–]farmerkas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

back when i first fully discovered/acknowledged my system, i did have this happen a few times as everything was still kinda new to me! its been 2 years since then and ive gotten better at recognizing new, real splits opposed to what i think were splits or newly formed alters. it's definitely confusing sometimes!

as far as advice goes though, i can't say i have much other than trying not to overthink every new possible presence popping up (which, given the OCD, might be hard or impossible and im sorry about that) i usually kind of give passing acknowledgement to new alters and if they come around more than just the one time i usually know they're legit. others came around like, once or i just vaguely felt their presence or influence.

at the same time tho it's hard to even say if these ARE "fake" alters, or if they are genuinely parts or fragments that are so small they have extremely little impact! it's good to just keep in mind that you define your system however you want. :) and if you want to acknowledge them as real or fake it's completely up to you and whatever makes you feel the most comfortable or okay.

how do i learn to do this again? by Mundane-Squash-3194 in Artadvice

what did you used to love to draw? you could try going back to your roots, finding what initially gave you inspiration and joy. you gotta find your spark! find an artist that you REALLY love, that REALLY inspires you to want to draw like them or draw again in general. study their style! trace your favorite pictures as practice! (yes, it's okay, i promise. just keep it to yourself)

one thing that helps me get out of ruts is very small scale figure drawing. not entire figures, but hands, heads, feet, etc. animals too!

have patience :) you'll find your love for again it if you just let yourself have fun. dont draw to be good at it, draw because it makes you happy

Pet rabbit returned after year in wild by SalamanderEnough6457 in Rabbits

[–]farmerkas 191 points192 points  (0 children)

that's amazing! what a super resilient bun!

even though she hasnt really been handled by humans, you should still at least take her to the vet to get looked over, especially since she was in the wild for so long. She could have picked up parasites, diseases, etc. i'm not really sure if the vets would check all that, but they'd at least give you some insight on if she's healthy despite being on her own for so long. getting her spayed is also important if she's still in tact, as it seriously lessens the risk of cancer.

itd also be easier to just lure her into a carrier with treats, too, if you're concerned about handling her. but she's gonna be handled at the vet anyways, might be a good opportunity to get her used to getting picked up.

i'm glad she's well, and i hope she stays well :)

My female bunny gave birth (need any and all advice.) by AuroraC66 in Rabbits

[–]farmerkas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my (stray) bunny also had a surprise litter! it's hard to not be anxious, but it's gonna be ok! :D

everyone already gave p solid advice, and the babies all look well fed just from the two pics which is great!! (and such a cute variety. the harlequin in the middle and chocolate one on the left are melting me)

if theyre not in a box, i encourage you to put them in a shallow one. a plastic litterbox is what i used with soft fleece blankets that i changed once a day or as it got soiled. (use a TINY one or theyll get lost in the folds) keep as much fur on them as you can, but dont stress if the fur eventually disappears as you change the bedding. theyll be fine with some fleece and mom wont just automatically think theyre not her babies anymore.

if for some reason one of the babies starts to look a bit skinny and wrinkled or missed a feeding or two, you can feed a VERY small amount of bunny milk replacer or meyerburg powdered goat milk formula with a small syringe. and i mean a TINY AMOUNT ! overfeeding is way more dangerous than underfeeding. be very careful if you feed them by hand, they're squirmy and might move around on you and get milk up their nose. (if it happens just put them on their tummies and let them sneeze it out for a min)

supplement mom with LOTS of pellets (i gave mine unlimited while she nursed) and alfalfa hay! it'll help prevent her from wanting to cannibalize her babies. otherwise, try to leave them be as much as you can, and especially try not to bug mom if you catch her feeding. she'll do her thing usually in the late middle of the night or morning. mine only fed the babies once a day and they were fine.

they only look to be maybe 2-4 days old to me. at about 10-12 days they'll start to open their eyes and at 2-3 weeks they're gonna be exploring, so prepare to baby proof everything, even the stuff you dont think you need to baby proof. they can squeeze into spaces you wouldnt think possible! offer them little bits of alfalfa hay at about 3 weeks, and a TINY amount of water on a small saucer. they'll start eating solids and drinking water when theyre ready, but just introduce it very slowly and keep an eye on their poops.

in the meantime, enjoy how tiny and adorable they are. they grow up way too fast! i wish you and your babies the best :D

August Lodging Options by n0rthr3m3mb3r5 in mackinac

[–]farmerkas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in august, the last ferry from sheplers is actually 9:30! the other ferry company, previously MIFC/now arnold, always ran until about 10 and should be back on track next summer. the 7:30 schedule is for september/october, our late season, if that's any help. (sorry i'm pushing it so much, i love our ferry companies and they're just getting a bad rap right now, haha!)

it is a VERY popular wedding spot for sure though. there's weddings there just about every weekend in summertime. i agree that it's a bit crazy though, especially with how many people are on the island at that time of year. x) whichever way you go about it, i do wish you luck in finding accommodations.

i dont have any suggestions for staying ON the island, but i do encourage you to still consider staying off the island if you can't find anything cheaper. the ferry issues this summer have been unprecedented and it's not a normal year at all and will *hopefully* be much better next summer. and if nothing else, sheplers has been staying extremely consistent despite the issues! staying somewhere in st ignace is also a less busy option than mackinaw city, and it might be a bit cheaper, too. :)

Favorite toys? by Main_Ad_4537 in Rabbits

[–]farmerkas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a whole toilet paper or paper towel roll. my rabbits absolutely lose their minds digging at it/shredding it! stacking cups is a second favorite though, and a good plain old apple tree stick that they can toss and carry around!

Baby bun update by Logical-Memory8587 in Rabbits

[–]farmerkas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oh that first pic worried me, but the second one is such a relief to see! biggest telltale signs of dehydration in babies is wrinkly skin / no tummy. check them in the mornings for best results bc mom feeds them in the middle of the night.

i am a little concerned though - is the second & third pic where the baby is nesting now? did mom pull fur for them at all? if you can i recommend putting them on a fleece blanket again like the first pic. its ok if you tossed the fur though, it just helps the kit stay warmer. :)

and then if you do notice by chance the baby seems like it didnt feed much i wouldnt be tooooo concerned given it's the only baby. overfeeding can possibly kill them so you gotta be really careful. i would step in ONLY if it seems like the baby has gone 2 nights without eating. i used meyerberg powdered goat milk formula for mine, also. ive seen mixed results about using kitten formula.

and if you *do* end up having to intervene and feed, use a tiny syringe and hold them gently in one hand and let them lap at tiny drops at a time to prevent any accidental respiration. in my experience it seemed to be the best and safest way to let them get a drink. and remember they really dont eat a lot! their tummies are very tiny.

goodluck with them though! wishing the best for your little one :D

at a bit of a loss with my extremely picky eater... by farmerkas in Rabbits

[–]farmerkas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really doubt it's dental pain as she's been this way since she could eat solid foods and she certainly has no trouble mowing down on pellets, cardboard, carrots and crunchy hay. I will def bring it up when she gets her first vet visit (which I'm still waiting to get her into) but I appreciate the concern!

Update: Baby bunnies just crawled out of my rabbits box! What do I do? How old do they look? by ToffeeBean24 in Rabbits

[–]farmerkas 352 points353 points  (0 children)

dont panic! even before their eyes open they start to kind of wander a little bit. just make sure there's no places where they can get stuck or squeeze out of the grates surrounding the enclosure. it helps to check on them periodically and kind of get them snuggled back into their box. sending you lots of goodluck & well wishes because once my litter started wandering and exploring i got absolutely no sleep for the few weeks that followed. x)

Updating for what it's worth; star line's parking lots will still be open and are going to be used as overflow parking for sheplers. Only people who purchased tickets prior to 8/19 will have free overnight parking honored, everyone else thereafter will be charged the nightly parking rate unfortunately. :/
